Japan is the first Japanese team to pass the "2021 League of Legends World Championship" in the first place of play-in!

From Japan, DetonatioN FocusMe, the winner of the LJL 2021 Summer Split of the League of Legends Japan League (LJL), is participating as the Japanese representative team.

The above 10 teams will be divided into two groups of 5 teams each to compete for the 4 spots in the group stage. Each team will play once against another team in the same group. The first-place team from each group will advance directly to the group stage. The third- and fourth-place teams will first play in a BO5 format, with the winner playing the second-place team from a different group. The two winning teams then advance to the group stage.
As in last year's Worlds and MSI 2021, the two VCS teams will not participate in this year's tournament.
The group stage will consist of the four teams that won the play-in rounds and the following 12 new teams, for a total of 16 teams.

These 16 teams were divided into four groups of four teams each, with each team playing the other teams in its group twice. The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage.
In the knockout stage, all eight teams that have survived to this point will play quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals in a BO5 single elimination (no loser elimination) format. In the finals, the last two remaining teams will play BO5 matches, and the winner will be crowned the "2021 League of Legends World Champion.
