The two major machines that played a major role in "Nadia of the Secret Garden" are now available as a set! I made the "ν-Nautilus-go with Nautilus-go DX Set"! Taiyuki's Weekend Plastic Model Kit No. 39
When you are a working adult, you tend to have a lot of plastic models piled up in your busy life. ...... In this series, Yasuyuki Tai, a voice actor who loves robots and plastic models, takes on the challenge of building plastic models on your behalf!
The concept is "even busy working people can make it this far on their weekends off. There are only two rules: bare bones assembly and a production period of one to two days! If you read this series, you will surely find the plastic model you want to build.
So, "Weekend Plastic Model Making by Voice Actor Taiyuki! Weekend Plastic Model! Let's start the 39th issue!
Episode 39: "Nu-Nautilus with Nautilus DX Set
This time we will be looking at this plastic model set that includes two mecha ships that appeared in the TV anime "Nadia of the Mysterious Sea," which celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2020!
This is the "nu-Nautilus-go with Nautilus-go DX Set" by Kotobukiya!
The package depicts the Nautilus, a versatile submarine that travels the seas, and the ν-Nautilus, a huge machine that takes to the skies.
The ν-Nautilus has been renewed from the past releases, with some of the molding colors revised so that it can be assembled with more of the image from the play. This is a gorgeous kit that includes the new kit "Nautilus-go" in it.
The description of the set contents is written on the side of the package. Please check how luxurious the kit is!
The number of runners seems surprisingly small. You can see how much care was taken to make this kit easy to build. The runner in the lower right corner of the image is the entire Nautilus.
nu-Nautilus
Before assembling the main unit, let's take a look at the display stand.
In addition to the instruction manual, a piece of cardboard with the pattern printed on it as you can see is included.
By carefully cutting it out with a cutter, etc. and assembling it, you will be able to use ......
A display stand in the shape of the large blue water held by the captain (not the captain) of the Nautilus and nu-Nautilus is completed.
The completed ν-Nautilus is connected to this stand: ......
Here it is! It's big! Big power! It is the best sci-fi mecha! Although not too many parts were used, and I took great care in assembling the gimmick parts, it still took me about an hour to complete this part. The color separation by dividing the parts is also quite good.
At the rear are five engine nozzles. Be careful not to break the small feather parts.
Looking up from the bottom is the best way to appreciate the huge size of this ship.
If you look at it backlit from this angle, you can enjoy the silhouette that recreates the launching scene in the play.
The fan detail is engraved on the intake area at the front of the ship. The bridge is seen hazy in this photo, which also gives the photo a sense of enormity.
The turret in front of the bridge can be rotated and the barrel can be moved up and down.
The turret in front of the bridge can be rotated and the barrel can be moved up and down, and can be replaced with a stowed position. The wooden deck-like parts are also color-coded in separate parts.
The window-like part of the bridge is a pre-painted part. Even though the kit is large, it is a very detailed part, so it is very helpful.
The rear of the bridge is also color coded in separate parts. Please be careful not to catch the antennae on the sleeve of your clothes.
The bottom of the ship, from the rear angle.
From directly behind, it is surprisingly and surprisingly smart!
The nozzle in the center is a knob, which can be rotated counterclockwise from the deployed wing position to ......
What a surprise! The main wings and vertical tail fins retract in tandem! I can't believe that such a gimmick could be incorporated in an assembly kit, or even that you would incorporate it! I am truly impressed!
Once again, be sure to read the instructions carefully before assembling the gimmick parts.
This is the form shown during the atmospheric breakthrough and the assault on Red Noah. It looks very sharp.
Nautilus
Next is the "Nautilus," a new kit of the all-purpose submarine.
The lines of the hull, which had a strong impression even in the play, have been reproduced well.
The color scheme reproduction by the division of parts of each part, as for this size is also doing its best.
How big is the Nautilus? ......
The Nautilus can be held in the palm of your hand like this! You can see how detailed it is.
The bottom of the hull is also well reproduced. You can also see a part of the diving ball in the center.
When the hatch behind the sphere is removed, a hole for attaching the stand appears.
The stand can be used to recreate the Nautilus moving underwater as depicted in the OP of the anime.
The captain's quarters and rear hangar are also perfectly shaped!
The screws at the rear of the battle block are also well detailed.
The hatch for the flying torpedo is molded on the deck.
The hatch of the flying torpedo can be opened by replacing the parts.
This is a nice touch, as it was one of the most impressive pieces of armament and the final attack unleashed in the Nautilus' final battle.
A display stand is also included that allows both ships to be displayed at the same time.
This is a lineup that is never seen in the movie, but here we can look at the old and new Nautilus and weep as we remember the adventures of their days together.
The Nautilus is huge, isn't it?
Even when viewed from the side, it looks like a ship model display, and I think it looks stylish.
The display stand is movable to some extent, so you can shift the direction of travel a little to show the ν-Nautilus in the sky and the Nautilus on the sea.
Although there is a limit, the stand has surprisingly high holding power, so you can even tilt the ship significantly.
How about the nu-Nautilus turning and dodging the Red Noah's beam attacks?
A little bit of weathering!
Now, since the Nautilus is so much fun as it is, we thought about what we could do to add a little more detail, and this time, since it was buried so deep in the ground that the gargoyle called it a "phantom excavated battleship," we gave it a wash of GSI Creos' weathering color, Grand Brown. We gave it a wash-like treatment with GSI Creos' weathering color "Grand Brown".
The entire ship's body was covered with the weathering color "Chocolate? I painted the entire ship with the weathering color, and before it dried completely, I wiped it off with a KimWipe (a good kind of tissue).
At this time, the Kimwipes get dirtier and dirtier, but the dirt also stains the body in a good way, so I was able to complete the work with only one Kimwipe.
It is not bad to use a tissue to wipe it off, but since tissues produce scraps, it is easier to wipe it off with a KimWipe to get a clean finish.
I think that the overall tone of the piece has become more subdued, and the plastic look has been softened.
The intricate parts of the surface were wiped off with a KimWipe to give the appearance of dirt and grime.
We believe that we have achieved the "excavated battleship" look that cannot be achieved by simply applying a smear finish.
This time, I left the stains a little more heavily so that the effect would be easy to see, but the amount of wiping off is up to your taste.
The bright blue parts may look a bit brownish.
The red surface on the bottom of the ship is now more clearly detailed, and the color is heavier still.
Finally, it may be a good idea to spray with a matte spray or similar.
The entire ship's body as well as the fine turrets are washed with weathering color.
In order to fully reproduce the coloring, painting of the main wings is necessary, but even without that, I think the model boasts a level of perfection that is enjoyable enough.
We hope that you will not only assemble the model, but also add a little extra effort to it.
The Nautilus was also painted with GSI Creos' dark gray weathering color. Since the Nautilus was used underwater and at sea, dirt stains are a little strange.
The effect is almost the same as the smeared finish, but it still gives a different impression from the plastic.
The hatch of the flying torpedo and the screws behind the hatch are also clearly visible.
The details around the main block are also clear. If you only want to emphasize the details, you can simply apply smearing.
This is how it looks from the side. When wiping with a KimWipe, be aware of the direction of travel and gravity, and the wipe will leave a natural-looking wipe.
The Nu-Nautilus and the Nu-Nautilus together.
Don't both ships look more powerful and massive?
Some people may think that it is difficult to assemble a ship model, even though it is a science fiction mecha, but it is really surprisingly easy to assemble.
Those who were thrilled by the adventures of Jean and Nadia at the time, and who were excited by the raging final episode after Captain Nemo's resurrection. And for those who were immersed in the "Bye Bye Blue Water" feeling, this is a must-try product.
