Editor's Review] The plastic model of the main mecha of the fall 2021 anime "Boundary War Machine", "HG 1/72 Meiress Kembu", is a great kit filled with discovery, surprise, imagination, and excitement...... the fun of plastic modeling!

The fall 2021 anime "Boundary War Machine," which is currently airing, is very interesting!

As it is a new real robot anime by SUNRISE BEYOND, expectations for this work were high even before it aired, but from the very first episode, the story has continued to unfold in a way that one cannot take one's eyes off of it.

The highlight of this work is the activity of the humanoid special mobile weapon "AMAIM," which holds the key to this work.

In particular, the main mecha, "MAILeS Kembu," is a very unique machine with a unique joint structure. The mechanical design supervisor is Kiyoyuki Okuyama, who has worked on various industrial designs. The mechanical design is by Yuya Koyanagi of KEN OKUYAMA DESIGN, of which Okuyama is the president. The design is a fusion of logical mechanisms and heroic lines.

The design is so novel that, at first glance, one may wonder, "How can I evaluate this ......?" But after seeing it in action in the anime and assembling the plastic model introduced here, I can now say with confidence, "This is so cool! I can now say with certainty, "This is so cool!

So, I would like to introduce the "HG 1/72 Meiress Kembu", which was released at the same time as the start of the anime broadcast!

Fun to assemble! Meiress Kembu is a moving and impressive figure!

First, let's start with the packaging.

The illustration is reminiscent of an intense battle scene. This is exactly how the third and fourth episodes looked like.

Now let's take a look at the contents.

This is a standard volume for an HG kit. This kit is poly capless and consists only of plastic parts made of PS resin.

Let's start assembling it!

The figure has a peculiar body shape that combines heroic coloring and an engineered structure.

The most distinctive feature is probably the structure of the arms and legs. Flexible action is possible by combining numerous single-axis movable joints.

The arms have two arms and wrists connected to exterior parts for a large range of motion.

Legs connect to shin parts, thighs and ankles. The silhouette is interesting as the knees are bent.

The torso parts connect the chest, which moves back and forth, left and right, and the waist, which has a ball joint connection.

The axis connection and ball joints allow the body to twist boldly.

The yellow part of the chest has a cylinder structure that moves in conjunction with the shoulder parts.

When the arms are slid forward, the shaft is pushed in!

A close-up of the face.

Surprisingly, color separation is reproduced using only molded colors. The head is a collection of very detailed parts.

Now let's take a look at the amazing mobility!

She can sit with her knees up and her hips down.

The toes are also movable, making it quite easy to ground the figure.

She can also be posed kicking up like this!

Next, let's try equipping her with a weapon.

A weapon rack can be attached to the back of the figure to carry a variety of weapons. The "Meiress Kembu" comes with a super-thermal battle sword and a 60mm machine gun. It is also possible to attach weapons from other "MAILeS" kits, such as the previously released "HG 1/72 Meirez Byakuchi". It would be fun to combine weapons to create your own original equipment.

The arm of the weapon rack is extendable.

By extending the arm to the front of the fuselage, you can recreate the situation where the weapon is about to be picked up.

Fighting close with the super-thermal combat straight sword!

Can be held with both hands. You can hold it with one hand or grab it with both hands. ...... You can pose the figure in any way you like.

Next, the 60mm machine gun is held!

The machine gun fits into the gap between the blocks on the arms. The gun barrel is fixed in place by snapping into place, so it looks like the sights will not blur when firing. ...... It's a small detail, but it's the kind of thing that makes you think, "Oh, my God, I can't believe it! It's a small detail, but it's the kind of "I see! It is an interesting feature of this kit that you can discover such a strange structure while assembling it.

You can hold the gun at your waist. Of course, you can put one hand on the barrel.

Or you can crouch down as if you want to hide behind an obstacle. It looks cool in any posture.

The unfinished state that appeared in episodes 1 and 2 can be reproduced with a selection of parts.

The shoulder is a collection of junk parts, and the dagger with shield attached to the left arm is a feature.

This handmade feeling is also quite nice .......

The parked plane state at the time of its first appearance can also be reproduced.

The whole body is neatly folded. The fit of the legs is particularly impressive. There is no waste in the structure!

Paint and inking make it even cooler!

The coloring can be reproduced to a certain extent with the molding colors and included stickers, but let's add a few more touches to make it even cooler.

So, I painted and treated the joints.

The exterior parts are matted, and the frame parts are painted in metallic color, then finished in semi-gloss.

The circles and vertical lines that look like power marks are placed at the joints of the arms and legs, and I added some color to them to give them a tighter look.

Now let's try out the various poses.

The angle of looking up from the bottom is quite fitting. I think it gives Kembu a nice giant look. I feel like I'm on the battlefield!

"Okay, when I say go, charge!" type of pose.

The blade of the straight sword is a metallic silver overlaid with clear orange. The pose is somewhat like a super robot from the 1980s. Meiress Kembu" is a robot that can be interpreted as both military and heroic, and I think it is a robot that has a lot of nostalgia.

This is the all-inclusive form that has not appeared in the anime, equipped with a dagger and a shield! It is a boy's romance to have a lot of weapons!

What do you think of the "HG 1/72 Meiress Kembu"?

It only takes about 1-2 hours to assemble the figure, but if you want to make it more complex, no matter how much time you have, it won't be enough! I got the impression that it is a superb kit that combines such ease and depth.

This time, I painted it in accordance with the visuals in the anime, but I also tried camouflage paint for the guerrilla weaponry, or went all out with the weathering to make it look dirty, which stimulated my imagination.

Various "Boundary War Machine" mecha are scheduled to be made into plastic models in the future, so I have a feeling that we will still be entertained by them. ......

We will continue to pay attention to this product in the future.
