▼ Festival Director Koji Takeuchi comments

In FY2020, there were about 450 new Japanese animation productions alone, and more than 300 TV productions.
The number has increased more than 40 times in the past 60 years since 1963, when it started with 7 TV productions. Japan is now a major producer of animation and at the same time an unparalleled consumer of animation in the world. And every year, it produces animation that is a hit not only domestically, but also internationally.
The current boom in Japanese animation is due in no small part to the work of the "Animation Merit" honorees, who have laid the foundation for this boom.
In this special video, we thank the honorees and trace their achievements as pioneers. We hope you will enjoy this valuable video, as we believe there are many things we can learn from it for the further development of animation.
(Please enjoy this valuable video.)
