This is the jewel box of transformation gimmicks! Assemble the 1/300 Psycho Gundam from "Mobile Suit Z Gundam" and indulge in the mainstream of endless ideas! The 16th issue of "80's B-Grade Anime Plastic Model Natural History

I have been reminded from time to time of the editorial staff's words, "We get more access when we feature Gunpla, so please include Gunpla once in a while," and I have finally made up my mind to assemble a Gundam, the main character of the series. Well, it's a Gundam, but it's a Psycho Gundam. Psycho Gundam was one of the proposals submitted as the main character robot for "Mobile Suit Z Gundam" (1985), so it could be called the main character, right? It's also the heroine Fou Murasame's ride, .......

▲ The assembly instruction diagram uses a lot of color and cuts of settings and scenes from the play. This would have helped people in regions where "Z Gundam" was not broadcast to understand what kind of mobile suit it is. After the transformation, it's labeled "in flight (floating).

After all, this Gundam was designed by Katsuji Murakami, the creator of Chogokin. Of course, it can transform into a box-like flying form like the "Daitetsujin 17". However, after seeing the world of the previous "Mobile Suit Gundam" (1979) and the speedy transformation of the Valkyrie in "The Super Dimension Fortress Macross" (1982), there were concerns that a Gundam that transforms into a box would be okay as the main character. I can understand why it was not made, but I can also understand why it was not made. I can understand why it was rejected, but the sense in adopting it as the antagonist ridden by a tragic heroine is brilliant.

Looking at the parts like this, the V-shaped antenna on the forehead and the shape of the ankles are just like the first Gundam, aren't they? However, the Gundam was not designed as a villain from the beginning, so the feeling of the previous Gundam has been carefully inherited.

The interesting thing about this kit is its unique "1/300" scale. While slightly larger mobile suits and mobile armors (Assimmar, Messara) were sold at a low price as 1/220, only this Psycho Gundam and Psycho Gundam Mk-II are in 1/300 scale. And the price at that time was 600 yen; the 1/144 Dige was 700 yen, and the box was a little smaller than Dige. What a delicate scale! That's what makes it interesting.

▲ It looks like a simple modeling, but the parts are molded in two colors, with poly caps and decals. And on top of that, if you design it to be deformable, it would probably end up costing about the price of a larger 1/144 mobile suit!

I don't know, because I've never built one, but can it really transform from such an orthodox toy-like robot shape to a flying form? Does it take on that weird pyramid-like shape? Is that possible with a kit that cost 600 yen at the time? Wouldn't there be enough parts to make it ......? It is this anxiety, in other words, "expectation. If this happens, there is nothing else to do but to assemble it without any further ado! Once assembled and transformed, it will become clear what is going on!
