Interview] EGOIST releases 10th Anniversary EP "BANG! EGOIST released their 10th Anniversary EP "BANG!!!". Vocalist chelly talks about what to listen to and the 10-year history of the album!

On November 30, 2011, EGOIST released the single "Departures ~Anata ni Okuru Ai no Uta~" and on the same day, exactly 10 years later, they released their 10th Anniversary EP "BANG! It contains four songs, including the title track, which is the opening theme song for the TV anime "Building Divide -#000000- (Code Black).
It is an important work, the first CD entrusted to a creator who loves EGOIST.
In addition, the limited first pressing will include a Blu-ray containing EGOIST's first live video, which is a re-edited version of three live performances held last year.

BANG! is a great way to enjoy the chemical reaction between Giga-san and EGOIST!

BANG! is a CD commemorating the 10th anniversary of EGOIST's debut. First of all, please tell us your thoughts on the 10th anniversary.

chelly It may seem like a long time, but it has been a very short 10 years. I have experienced and absorbed so many things.

─ ─ EGOIST started as a unit within the "Guilty Crown" TV anime. In the beginning, you didn't think you would be active for such a long time, did you?

chelly No, not at all (laughs). I thought it would probably be a one-off "Guilty Crown" project. YUZURIHA Inori passed away in the story, so it seems strange that she is still alive in EGOIST by singing as Inori.

─ ─ I think that the unique format in which YUZURIHA Inori sings theme songs for various anime works outside the world of "Guilty Crown" is one of the major characteristics of EGOIST. And "BANG!", which will be released on the day of the CD's debut on its 10th anniversary, will be the first EP by EGOIST. is EGOIST's first EP.

chelly We are happy to be able to release an EP with a little more songs than our usual singles at the timing of our 10th anniversary.

The title track "BANG! is the opening theme song for the TV anime "Building Divide -#000000-. ryo wrote the lyrics, and Giga composed and arranged the music. there was a lot of buzz on the internet before its release that Giga would be providing music for EGOIST.

The lyrics by chelly ryo are cool and satirical about recent society, and give the impression of a strong woman walking confidently and proudly. The melody was stylish, and I thought it was as good as Giga's. The song was so stylish that I wondered how it would sound at first. Since it is such a song, I wasn't sure how I would sing it at first. Maybe I should use a spicier voice than usual, but if I sang too strongly, it would not sound like Inori-chan.

─ ─ How would YUZURIHA Inori sing this song?

I think about that first for the songs of CHERYUZURIHA EGOIST. BANG! I was conscious of Inori's style, but I tried to make her vocal a little different from usual. I thought, "Ah, that's Giga's style.

─ ─ What did you talk about with Giga-san at the recording site?

chelly I was directed to sing it like a little badass woman in a leather jacket (laughs). (Laughs.) When I sang the song as a test, I was probably too conscious of Inori and sang it too cutely. She wanted me to sing it with a little more spiciness, so she used the word "leather jacket. So, I went into the recording with a leather jacket on my heart (laughs).

─ I see, that's easy to understand (laughs). You sing "common sense" in the chorus, "like, dislike, hate, common sense," with almost no c's. It fits the rhythm of the song, and it's always sung in the same way. I thought it was cool because it fit the rhythm of the song and it seemed to blow common sense out of the water.

chelly I think I might have been singing like that subconsciously. After that, "I don't care Blow away BANG! followed by strong words. I think the song also had a sense of laughing off the common sense.

chelly The music video emphasizes the fact that it is the 10th anniversary of EGOIST, and it uses illustrations of Inori from previous years. I wanted the fans to think about EGOIST's 10 years with me. It was also interesting that there were many speakers and they were drawn like living creatures.


─ ─ I have an image of YUZURIHA Inori wearing red or black clothes with feminine forms, and she also appears in music videos in that way. But in the main visual this time, she is wearing a yellow and black stadium jacket and other street fashion.

chelly The style of the illustrations this time is crisp and the expressions on the faces are satirical, and I thought the effect of the chemical reaction between Giga-san and EGOIST was reflected in the illustrations.

─ ─ On the 10th anniversary, I think I saw a new side of Inori.

chelly Inori has shown us a new side with every song she has released, and this time I had a stronger impression of that.
