Vol. 43 SMP ALTERNATIVE DESTINY "Aim for the Top! Gunbuster

This is the first installment of Bandai Candy Division's new SMP series "SMP ALTERNATIVE DESTINY!　From the anime "Aim for the Top! Gunbuster from the anime "Aim at the Top!

Aim for the Top! is an OVA series produced from 1988 to 1989. It is a "flame of passion, friendship, hard science fiction, space science, courage, guts, hard work, sexy, invincible robot spectacle, and a big river romance !!!!!" with homages from numerous science fiction films and special effects works scattered throughout the series. Anime. 2" was later produced, and various media mixes have been developed, and the work still boasts strong popularity today, more than 30 years after its release.

This item, while boldly arranged by designer Toshinao Miyauchi, is a Gambuster in every sense of the word. Many of you may be interested in this item. I am one of them!
The Gambuster made a shocking appearance this time, just like in the main anime. Let me introduce it to you!

The product comes in a luxurious sleeve on the right side with the package on the left side!

At this point, it is beyond the common sense of a Shokugan!

There are a lot of runners, but each runner is small, so it is not too much to fear!　There are a great variety of pre-painted parts, and some parts are painted in two or more colors. Just by looking at the runners, you can see how gorgeous this kit is.

There are many sharp parts, so be careful not to damage them while assembling.

Now, throw some gum in your mouth and start assembling!

Here is the completed figure after about 3 hours of work.

The silhouette is instantly recognizable as a Gunbuster, although the amount of detail has increased dramatically from the animated setting drawing. The arrangement is exquisitely balanced.

The closer you look, the more you can see the fine details.

Gunbuster's set height is 200 meters. Considering this, one can imagine that in the main anime, details are indeed depicted with a great deal of omission. The details of this kit also seem very convincing when you think about "if the Gunbuster were drawn in high detail.

The kit was assembled straight without any painting, and it has this degree of perfection. The color separation is also almost perfect. The painted parts are all in metallic colors, giving the figure a metallic and luxurious feel.

Look at the sharpness of the tsun tsun head!　And then there is the color-coding of the face!　Painting the eyes and chin would be a challenge if you wanted to do it yourself. But the metallic color is so beautifully pre-painted! Thank you so much!　The chest is also remarkable for the large number of colors.

The belt-like detail on the shoulders is also well reproduced. The frame parts to which the shoulder armor is fixed are also clearly visible from this angle. Two colors of gold are used for the chest and head.

The number of colors used has increased with the addition of detail, so the synergistic effect is quite informative. The details that were characteristic of the original design have been retained, and the presence of the sci-fi mecha has been further emphasized.

The rear unit also has additional spaceship-like details. The color coding in this area is also perfect.

Looking in from below, you can see the shape of the thrusters in various parts. In particular, the thrusters on the underside of the rear block have also been painted. And the metallic red color on the sides is eye-catching.

In addition, the blade-like parts of the shoulder armor are actually the boldest additions. This part is also very sharp.

Around the legs. The silhouette should be very simple, but the addition of high-density details increases the amount of information. Undergates are used extensively, and gate marks, including the red metallic parts on the sole, are barely visible even when the figure is unassembled.

I can imagine that it would be very difficult to add this kind of detail to a mecha that was originally set up to be relatively simple, but with this Gunbuster, the detailing was considered based on its set height of 200 meters, and the arrangement is truly exquisite and just right. The range of motion is also well secured.

The range of motion is also well secured. The neck is connected with a ball joint, and the base part of the neck bounces up, so it is movable to a surprisingly large extent. However, there are many thin parts at the tip of the neck, so please be careful when handling it.

The shoulder armor is connected to the frame extending from the body side with ball joints, so it can be tilted and rotated to change its direction, and the frame itself can be rotated back and forth without interfering with the movement of the arms.

Shoulder joints are axially connected. As you can see, the large shoulder armor can be moved freely. The elbows are double-jointed. It can be rotated 360° between the shoulder and the second arm, and between the forearm and the second arm.

Slight forward swing is possible at the red part of the shoulder. This is useful for arm-folding poses, etc.

The abdomen and chest are ball-jointed, so they can be tilted and twisted back and forth. The abdomen and waist can rotate with the axis connection.

The design of what used to be a cover part of the abdomen has been arranged in an interesting way while keeping the image intact.

The leg opening to the front, back, left and right is quite flexible.

There are roll rotation axes on the upper and lower thighs.

The knees are double-jointed and can bend deeply.

The ankles can also rotate and swing, ensuring ground contact as shown.

The wing-like parts on the back block can also be flipped upward.

The blade parts of the shoulder armor can be retracted.

When the blades are retracted, the silhouette of the original Gunbuster is even closer.

The wrists are connected with ball joints, allowing them to rotate and swing freely. As you can see, the figure can be posed with a powerful fist clenched in the air.

If the figure is balanced properly, it can even be made to stand in a high-kicking pose, as shown here.

Both left and right "slap hands" are available for the wrists, allowing the figure to be posed with a different expression from that of a fist.

But...! I tried dry brushing with Tamiya'senamel paint "Chrome Silver" this time!　The material is mainly ABS, so you need to be careful not to crack the parts, but you can safely paint with a half-dry brush. (*Note: If you choose to paint based on the examples, please do so at your own risk!)

The soles of the feet have also been dry brushed, so the kick looks even heavier!
