New "Soukyu no Fafner" spin-off anime to be produced! Sokyu no Fafner BEHIND THE LINE

On Monday, December 27, 2021, "Blue Sky Fafner FINAL Fes in Pacifico Yokohama" <Day 1> Soji's Birthday Festival 2021, an event commemorating the conclusion of the "Blue Sky Fafner" series, was held. At the event, it was announced that a completely new spin-off anime "Soukyu no Fafner BEHIND THE LINE" would be produced.

The "Sokyu no Fafner" series is a science fiction animation in which boys and girls board the humanoid weapon "Fafner" and fight for their lives against an unknown entity called "Festum".
The series will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2019, and "THE BEYOND" episodes 10 to 12, the final chapter of the series, will be screened in November 2020, bringing the 17-year-long story to its conclusion.

Today's "Soji's Birthday Festival 2021" featured Kohei Kiyasu (Soji Minashiro), Makoto Ishii (Ikki Makabe), Marika Matsumoto (Shinya Tohmi), Sumire Morohoshi (Miu Hino), Minoru Shiraishi (Kenji Kondo), Satomi Arai (Sakira Kondo), Kensho Ono (Comet Kaburaki), Yui Ishikawa (Misaka Mizukami) and Masahiko Tanaka (Fumihiko Makabe), Takaya Doji (Kyosuke Mizoguchi), Nozomu Sasaki (Hiroto Douma), and Sanae Kobayashi (Kanon Hazama). The event was a fitting conclusion to the series, as it brought together the largest number of people in the history of Fafner events, with a total of 12 members.

The event started with a live performance of "Zenryoku LOVE" by Nozomi Sasaki, who plays Hiroto, an idol on Ryugu Island! Then, the 11 members of the audience, excluding the main birthday celebrant, were called to sing Happy Birthday, and Kohei Kiyasu, who plays Soji, appeared on the stage riding on a 5-meter lift. Instead of the customary birthday cake bite, this time Makoto Ishii appeared dressed as a birthday cake, and the event unfolded in an unprecedented manner from the beginning, just like a Fafner event.

During the "Final Talk," in which the cast talked about their favorite scenes from the entire series, they reflected on their memories of the past 17 years, sometimes bringing tears to their eyes. Thirteen characters, including two Soji, sent thank you messages to the fans, and then the cast members went into the live corner. Kobayashi, who plays the role of Kanon Hazama, sang "Loving" and Ishii sang "FORTUNES," a cover of a famous song by angela. Ishii and Kiyasu performed a duet of "Taiyo to Tsuki", a song sung by Ikki and Soji, bringing the event to a climax amidst the excitement. The three-hour-long event seemed to fly by as the audience spent an intense time together.

Just as the cast members left the venue and the event seemed to be coming to an end, a new logo suddenly appeared on the screen and a surprise announcement was made that "Sokyu no Fafner BEHIND THE LINE" would be produced! BEHIND THE LINE" is a completely new animation with one complete episode, and is a "peaceful spin-off" that was promised at the "Soji Minashiro Birthday Festival 2017" held in 2017. More details will be announced at a later date, so please look forward to it.

In addition, on March 16, 2022, the fourth volume of Blu-ray & DVD containing episodes 10 to 12 of "Soukyu no Fafner the Beyond," which was screened in advance at theaters from November this year, will be released. In addition to the main story, "Makoto Ishii's Secret Hakodate Travel" shown at the event, the fourth ED theme "Now, for living" by angela, the fifth ED theme "It's past the day," and the insert song "Shangri-La: THE BEYOND" of episode 12 will also be included in this volume. In 2019, the 15th anniversary year of the series, the completely new "Fafner the Beyond" started its 12-episode theatrical advance screening, and in November 2020, the theatrical advance screening of episodes 7 to 9 was held, and the day the screening started, the series continued to trend on Twitter for a long time, creating a great buzz for its further tumultuous development. The series' development attracted a great deal of attention.
