First time in 2 years! More popular VTubers and hot titles at "Comic Market 99" First Day Cosplay Photo Summary [2021/12/30-31].
Comic Market 99, the world's largest coterie magazine exhibition, opened at Tokyo Big Sight on December 30, 2021.
The last Comic Market 97 in December 2019 was cancelled or postponed due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, but after almost two years, the event will be held. This year's event will be held for two days only, from the 30th to the 31st, one day less than in previous years.
One of the new changes is that tickets are now sold in advance to prevent infectious diseases. Thanks to this change, there were no "all-nighters," as they were called, which had been a problem for some time, as participants lined up all night before the event began.
Furthermore, by setting the upper limit of 55,000 visitors per day, the problem of long lines starting from the first train departures was eliminated. This made it possible to smoothly enter the venue.
How was the cosplay scene? Compared to the pre-Corona days, infection control measures such as social distance, hand washing, and masks are now more strictly enforced, but no major changes were found.
Cosplay such as "Sword Art Online" and "Love Live! were still alive and well, but cosplay trends have changed dramatically over the past two years, with an increase in cosplay of works such as "Uma Musume," "Jujutsu Kaisen," and "Tokyo Revengers," which have spread rapidly this year. There was not as much cosplay of specific titles as there had been at one time, but rather a mixture of new and old popular titles, as well as niche and maniacal cosplay.
It was also impressive to see more participants cosplaying not only anime and games, but also VTubers belonging to "hololive" such as Noel Shiragane, Akua Minato, and Marin Takaragane. It is likely that this genre will continue to attract an increasing number of cosplayers in the future.
Ayaki Miyamoto
Cosplayer Ayaki Miyamoto said she was "happy to be at an event for the first time in a long time" at "Comic Market" after an absence of about two years. She showed off her cosplay of Eishinflush from "Uma Musume," which started as an app game and was developed into a media mix and showed explosive popularity in 2021.
From "Sono Kisehase Ningyo ha Koi wo Suru" (That Dress-up Doll Will Fall in Love), which will start airing in January 2022, Ayaki appeared in the plaza cosplaying as Liz Kyun from the manga "Sabakoma," which the heroine, Kaimu Kitagawa, is addicted to in the series. She commented sincerely, "Cosplaying at Tokyo Big Sight is a deeply moving experience.

Also cosplaying as Eris Boreas Gray Rat from the novel-based TV anime "Unemployed Tensei: Isekai Iba Dekkitaku Honkoudou," which aired in two parts over a two-cour period, was Nogami Iko, who has 100,000 followers. Although she said it was easier to spend time there than in previous years because there were fewer participants, she expressed her feelings, saying, "I'm a little sad.
