The world's largest coterie magazine exhibition "Comic Market 99" was held from December 30 to 31, 2021.

Comic Market has been held twice a year, once in summer and once in winter, but in the past two years it has been cancelled or postponed due to the use of venues for the Tokyo Olympics and the coronavirus. It has been two full years since Comic Market 97 was held at the end of December 2019 at the actual venue (Comic Market 98, which was scheduled to be held in GW 2020 but was cancelled, is absent).

This year's Comiket introduced a paid ticket system and limited the number of visitors to less than 1/3 of previous years. Various measures were taken to prevent infectious diseases, such as checking vaccination certificates and segregation of the east and west areas, making this the first Comiket to be held in Japan.

The cosplay plaza was also severely affected by the lottery system for cosplayers' entry time slots, which were staggered. The garden area was used as a waiting area for cosplayers in the morning, and the rooftop exhibition area began to be busy with filming in the afternoon.

As this was the first Comiket in two years, the major change in the genre was the significant increase in popularity of "Uma Musume". The popularity of "Uma Musume Pretty Derby" exploded during the Comiket hiatus when the app "Uma Musume Pretty Derby" was finally released and the second season of the anime aired. Many popular Uma Musume cosplayers such as Simbolirdorf and Mayanotopgun were seen at the event.

Although it was the middle of winter at Comiket, the rooftop exhibition area was bathed in strong sunlight, making it hot enough for photographers in winter clothes. They avoided the crowds and formed a line to take photos in order.
