You can enjoy a full-fledged card game with a plastic kit by itself! We tried playing with Kabaya's "Hone Hone Saurus Card Battling! Shokugan Road Vol. 28

Hello everyone! This is Kariyasu☆, a hobby writer. In this corner, I'll be reviewing, modifying, and playing around with some of the toys and miniatures that interest me, under the theme of "Shokugan for Adults. The 28th issue is "Honehone Saurus Card Battling," which is currently on sale from Kabaya!

This is the latest game collaboration version of Kabaya Foods' best-selling toy snack "Honehune Saurus" series, which has been on the market since 2002! Following the "Honehune-saurus Build Board Battle" introduced in the 23rd issue of this series, here comes a card game!

Inside the box are

2 pieces of Honehune-saurus (pre-colored plastic kit)

28 cards

1 assembly and rules manual

The plastic kit can be removed from the runners and put into the box. The plastic kit can be assembled by removing it from the runners and snapping it together.

The cards are made of thick, solid paper, and are in a detached state. Each card has a different image of Honehune Saurus on it. I checked out all four types, and each one was a different version of Honehune-saurus. This should make fans very happy!

The contents of the four different boxes can be seen from the outside, so there is no need to worry about duplicates.

First, let's take a look at the 8 pieces of the 4 plastic kits!

1: Australovenator (left) & Muttabrasaurus (right)

2: Titanis (left) & Tylosaurus (right)

3: Agustinia (left) & Angatrama (right)

[4: Metridio coeruleus (left) & Honnehune crusader (right)

The dark-colored Honehune-saurus is quite stately. And the white Honehune Saurus is made of luminescent material, so it glows in the dark.

The card design looks like this. If you collect two cards of different suits (marks), you can play them as playing cards!

Let's play the game!

The game is for two players to attack the other player's Hone Hone Saurus by performing card moves in a one-on-one match.

The game was designed by Shaoo Nomura (Root Eleven), the same designer as "Honehonesaurus Build Board Battle". It is interesting to note that while the previous game was about assembling Honehune-saurus, this time it is about taking Honehune-saurus to pieces.

Mr. Nomura says that the game is not about killing each other's cute little Honehune-saurus, but rather about playing with them in a light-hearted way, like "Oh, no, they're all in pieces!

Let's take a look at the rough flow of the game.

<Preparation

Each player lays out 8 cards in front of the other. You also have 3 cards in your hand, and the rest are in the deck. After selecting your own Honnehonne-saurus, the game begins.

↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓

<Turn over the field cards>.

Each player turns over 2 cards from his or her deck and 1 card from the opponent's deck. This is a very important phase of the game, since the cards flipped over here determine the move! It is also useful to remember which card you have turned face down. This phase is a bit like a nervous breakdown.

↓↓↓↓

<Decide the attacking move.

Each player decides his or her attacking move by combining one card from his or her hand and two cards from the face-up cards. This is the reason why you turned over your opponent's cards earlier. Moreover, it seems that you can use the cards on the table that your opponent has turned over.

There are four types of attack moves.

Attack...Activated when you line up 3 cards with the specified numbers on the cards in your hand. You can perform the effect written on the cards in your hand.

Zoro...Activates when you line up 3 cards with the same number, and removes one of your opponent's parts.

Rember: If 3 cards have the same number, it removes one of your opponent's parts.

Goken...Triggered by 3 cards with no particular meaning. It can remove two of the opponent's parts.

These techniques are strong in the order of Attack > Zoro > Rember > Goken, but Attack loses only to Goken. Also, when the same attack techniques are used against each other, the one with the higher number wins.

↓ ↓ ↓

<Battle! > <Battle!

The battle begins when both players play the cards they are going to use, face down. Each player opens his or her hand and declares an attack move. The player who can make a stronger attack move than his or her opponent wins! (If the attacking moves are the same and the numbers are even, the game is a tie.) The loser removes the parts of his or her own Hone Hone Saurus and moves on to the next turn. The player discards the cards in his or her hand and the cards on the table.

The winner of the game is the first player to remove five of his or her opponent's parts, or the first player to have fewer parts removed when the number of cards in either player's hand drops to one or less!

I actually played this game.

We had Mr. A, the editor in charge of this series, help us out and actually played the game!

We took thorough precautions against infection while playing and filming the game.

The first half of the game begins! I, Karyas's Australovenator and Mr. A's Muttabrasaurus clash!

I used a Pentakeratops card to launch a Miracle Attack, but it was turned back after being hit by Honehune Asura's Goken. Two parts were removed. ......

Oh, it's falling apart!

I fought hard but was no match for him and lost straight away (cries). When all the parts are disassembled, it looks like this!

Start of the second half! This time, it is Hone Hone Crusader (me) vs. Metridio Coelus (Mr. A). I invoked Zorro against Mr. A who invoked Rember. I succeeded in removing one of the parts in the first round!

After that, the back-and-forth attack and defense continued. ......

Finally, attack and attack clashed! My Honehune Lion activated Reborn Attack, but Mr. A's Calcarodontosaurus activated Miracle Attack. Since they were the same Attack, the Miracle Attack with the higher number won. If only one more part was removed, it would have been a victory, but on the contrary, three parts were removed and the game was unexpectedly lost in reverse. ......

Each game lasts about 10 minutes, but the two players enjoyed themselves nonstop for about 60 minutes. The unpredictable and heated card battles were very exciting!

This is the fun part!

The attack is powerful. There are four types of attacks: "Super Attack," which removes two of your opponent's parts; "Miracle Attack," which removes three of your opponent's parts; "Reverse Attack," which removes the same number of your opponent's parts as the number of parts you have removed; and "Reborn Attack," which removes one of your opponent's parts while putting back one of your parts, If utilized properly, it is possible to reverse the situation at once even in a critical situation!

The balance is thrilling, however, in that you will lose to the most insignificant Goken. Moreover, if you want to attack, you need to keep your cards face down in your hand, so you cannot cheat and say, "I guess I should stop attacking and play Goken," while watching your opponent's attacking moves.

When you turn over the cards in your hand and return one card to its original position, you can be a little bit cheeky by deliberately turning over the card you think your opponent will use: ...... It is also fun. You can sometimes use the deck cards your opponent flips over to set up your own attack moves.

The battles actually progress as you attach and detach parts of the Hone Hone Saurus, which gives the game a realistic and exciting feel. It's fun to feel as if the battle is unfolding right in front of your eyes!

Finally, I made my own original Honehune-saurus by freely combining parts. Let's have fun with free ideas♪

So, how was it? It will surely be fun to play with your family and friends during the year-end and New Year holidays. See you again soon!
