[One lucky winner will receive an autographed copy of the book! Furumi-san is a commie. Commemorating the completion of the first season and the decision to air the second season! Interviews with Aoi Koga (actress playing the role of Glass Furumi), Takehito Kajiwara (actress playing the role of Hitoto Tadano), and Rie Murakawa (actress playing the role of Narumi Nagana)

The popular comic series "Mr. Furumi is a Commie" by Mr. Tomohito Oda has sold over 6 million copies in total. (currently serialized in Shogakukan's "Weekly Shōnen Sunday," hereafter "Mr. Furumi"). Its second TV anime season will be broadcast from April 2022.

The first season of the TV anime (broadcast from October to December 2021) was well received for its heart-throbbing exchanges between Furumi-san and Tadano-kun, the daily lives of the overly unique classmates, and the wonderful direction unique to anime. It is still fresh in our minds that the decision to produce the second season was announced in the D-part of the final episode with the word "continue" written in Ms. Furumi's sketchbook, and the joyful voices of viewers flooded the SNS.

The TV anime "Furumi-san is a commie. We asked three of the main cast members, Aoi Koga (who plays Glass Komi), Takehito Kajiwara (who plays Hitoto Tadano), and Rie Murakawa (who plays Najimi Nagana), to reflect on the first season and the recording sessions, as well as their expectations for the second season.

The blackboard scene in the first episode left the biggest impression on me.

--Koga: What are your thoughts on the first season of the TV anime "Furumi-san"?

Koga: Each episode was intense and we worked very carefully on it, but looking back on the entire season, I really feel like we went through it in a hurry. At the beginning of the recording sessions, I was really scared. But as I talked with the director about various things, and as the episodes went by, I gradually understood how to shorten the distance between the other characters, and then the first season was over in the blink of an eye! (laughs).

Kajiwara I also felt like I was running through the story before I realized it. The "Furumi-san" series has several episodes packed into a single episode, so the characters change in a dizzying array of ways, and the characters change all at once, making it a challenging role to play. Tadano-kun is a character that I can play while thinking about various feelings. He talks with Furumi in a normal way, but he seems to be unaware of her feelings, and there are many other details that I had to be aware of, so I really enjoyed playing him.

Murakawa: Like the two of you, I also felt that the time passed very quickly, but I also felt a great sense of fulfillment. It was a bit of both.

--Which episode or scene from the first season do you particularly like?

Koga I would have to say the first episode. The scene on the blackboard still leaves the strongest impression on me.

Also, the scene where Tadano-kun was abducted by Yamai-san (episode 4) was also impressive. I was also impressed by the scene where Furumi-san says (in her notebook), "I will decide who my friends will be." I will decide who my friends are" (written in a notebook), it was great to see how Furumi has established what a friend is in her mind. I could go on and on about the episodes that made me feel sad or touched, but if I had to, I would say those episodes were the most memorable.

Kajiwara I have many episodes, but if I had to pick one, I would say that I really liked the swimming pool scene (episode 7). When Furumi was feeling a little down (because she was injured and couldn't play with the others), Tadano-kun sat down next to her and talked to her as if nothing was wrong. I think it is very difficult to say something that is not intrusive, but I thought he was a handsome guy who could say something that was accepted without being sarcastic.

Murakawa: That was amazing. He has a lot of human power.

Koga I also thought he was handsome when he took Komi's hand and pulled her up. He was definitely not "just a guy" (laughs).

Murakawa: Yes. He's not just a man.

Kajiwara The expression of the water was so beautiful, and it was a time of youth.

Murakawa: I also like the scene in episode 5, when the two girls (Osami and Tadano) go to visit Ms. Furumi at her house, and Osami makes a plan to make it a private space for them. (Although it was only the first half of the story (in the first season), we could already see the comfort of sharing the air between the two of them.

I also liked the scene (in episode 9) where they go to Nakano-kun's house and play a game together. Here, the world suddenly becomes fantastical, depicted from the perspective of the game characters. Furumi-san and Tadano-kun are giving a lecture on how to play the game in a rather relaxed manner, but in the background, Nakasane-san (his character) and Nami (her character) are beating each other to a pulp (laughs). It was interesting to see them fighting to the death, just like in a battle anime.

I am proud to think that it is Tadano who understands Furumi-san the best (laugh).

--Please tell us about your impressions of Furumi-san, Tadano-kun and Nami, who are played by the three of you, such as what has changed from your initial impressions or what you like about them. First of all, how about Furumi-san?

Murakawa: At first, he seemed reserved when he wrote (about his feelings), but as the number of episodes progressed, he sometimes wrote things that were a bit more in-depth. I felt that we were getting to know each other.

Kajiwara That's right. Also, she always wears the clothes that Tadano-kun chooses. That kind of thing makes me think of myself. He is wearing the clothes I gave him as a gift! (laughs).

Murakawa: Though it wasn't Kajiwara-kun who gave it to you (laughs).

Koga Ha-ha-ha!

Kajiwara Whenever I read manga, I always look at it from that perspective. In that sense, Furumi-san is really healthy and enjoys the fact that he and Tadano have been able to expand their friend base. But I am proud to think that it is Tadano-kun who understands best (laughs).

Murakawa That's right (laughs).

Koga (laughs). (laughs) When I first met Komi-san, he seemed very cool and unassuming, a bit of a loner to me. But as the episodes went on, everyone understood that he was not like that, and there were moments when I felt that he was able to express his emotions. I felt that she was just nervous and didn't know what to do, but that she was actually very happy. That made me happy, and I wondered if I would be able to speak fluently someday. But I like such heartwarming scenes.

--You mentioned that Tadano-kun is a good-looking guy.

Murakawa: I got the impression that he really is more than just an ordinary guy. He is ordinary, but not ordinary.

Koga He casually looks at people and can also interpret (for Mr. Furumi). I think you should have more confidence! (laughs). (Laughs.) But I think that Tadano is the person he is today because he experienced that kind of pain in junior high school, so I thought that people who understand pain are able to be kind to others.

Kajiwara That was painful. ......

--Kajiwara That was painful...and the familiarity was consistently expressed.

Murakawa That's right. Compared to the other two, there may not have been much change from my initial impression, but I thought they were very nice assistants.

Kajiwara Is that on purpose?

Koga I don't know. They are doing it very naturally.

Murakawa I feel that the relationship between the two is progressing rapidly due to their familiarity.

Koga That's right. I would not have gone to the festival (episode 8) if Najimi-chan had not called me. I think she is a very important person who stirs things up but also creates opportunities.

--Tadano is also able to feel that it is because of Najimi's presence, isn't he?

Kajiwara Najimi and Tadano are always at each other's throats. But that is also because of love. I think it is great to have friends who have that kind of relationship, where you can say, "Oh, this guy again" in the midst of the usual flow of things.

It was also interesting to talk about the drama at the recording studio!

--I heard that none of the three had worked together as the main actors before the first season started, but did you notice any change in the sense of chemistry or anything like that during the first season?

Kajiwara: At first, I thought I was the only male in the female cast, which would be tough for a comic.

Murakawa Oh, I'm glad! I'm so glad.

Koga I'm glad, I'm glad.

Kajiwara Thanks to you, I am enjoying the work.

Kajiwara When we recorded the first episode of the first season, you and Koga talked on the way home, didn't you? No, I mean we talked, but more like "Oh, I'm looking forward to working with you from now on. ...... Looking back now, I think I was very nervous (laughs).

(laughs). I thought, "Oh, thank God, you are a kind person. You are a kind person.

Kajiwara At first I didn't know how far I could go. I didn't want to go out of my way and be seen as a creepy guy. Now that I think about it, I am able to speak properly.

Koga Yes, they both talk a lot, and I think we make a good team.

--Koga Yes, they both talk a lot, and I think we make a good team.

Kajiwara It was interesting to talk about the "Furumi-san" drama.

Koga It was a four-person recording with Ms. Okubo (Rumi Okubo, who played the role of Nakadayo), and Ms. Okubo is also a very good talker, and we talked about our impressions of the drama we were doing at the time.

Murakawa: We all got very excited.

--Murakawa: We all had a lot of fun together.

Kajiwara I think a sense of security at the work site helps stabilize the performance. If you can relax to a certain degree, you can relax your mind and perform in a good state, and I think it makes it much easier to perform.

Koga I agree with you.

Kajiwara There are so many variations of the tsukkomi. Each time I do it, I wonder if it is the right thing to do (laughs).

Murakawa: You like to make a vigorous tsukkomi, don't you, Kajiwara?

Kajiwara Yes, I do. If anything, I am more that way. However, my own nature is to be a blur, so I have the conflict of wanting to be a blur. (I can't do that because (in the film) everyone is going to make fun of me, but they want me to make fun of them (laughs).

Murakawa: Tadano-kun doesn't get to be in the position of a blabbermouth. I have to be a blur in real life (laughs).

Kajiwara I guess that's true. ......

Koga I'm looking forward to the next recording (laughs).

--What would you do if Kajiwara-san blurts it out in real life? Would you pick up on it?

Koga I can't. ( Kajiwara: (You too, Koga.))

Kajiwara: (Are you a blabbermouth, too?) Koga: More of a blabbermouth.

Koga I'd say I'm more of a blabbermouth.

Kajiwara Then I'm a double blur (laughs).

Koga That's right. I'll try a trick on Murakawa-san in the next post recording (laughs).

Murakawa Come on, come on! (laughs)

In the second season, I would like to see such "Mr. Furumi" scenes and direction.

--Please tell us what you would like to see in the second season.

Koga If I may be so bold, I hope that some episodes will have special endings. the first season had very elaborate openings and endings, so even if there are no special endings, I am very much looking forward to seeing what the openings and endings will be like.

Murakawa: Indeed, the opening and ending are points to look forward to in the second season as well.

Kajiwara Also, personally, I would like to see Tadano and Furumi take things a bit further. Maybe the two of them get into a lively conversation and go somewhere together.

Koga Can the two of them go somewhere alone? (Laughs)

Murakawa I'm sure the two of us could go.

Kajiwara We would be together on the way home.

Koga Wow, that sounds great (when I imagine it). I wonder if I should ask her out or not, or if I should tell her. I wonder if it's okay to tell them.

Murakawa That's the problem, isn't it? I'm sure we can talk and have a good time when we go out, but which one of us can ask her out? (laughs).

Kajiwara It seems difficult to ask them out, doesn't it?

Murakawa It seems like it would be difficult to ask either of them out because they would be thinking about all sorts of things. But, beyond that conflict, their outing together.

Koga I'm very curious about that.

Murakawa But I'm sure someone is following them and watching from the shadows (laughs).

Koga Like Mr. Yamai.

Kajiwara Indeed.

--Kajiwara Indeed. - In terms of familiarity, do you have any wishes for what you would like to see in the future?

Murakawa I would like to see a story in which a familiar face turns the tables. Like giving instructions via walkie-talkie: "Yamai-chan is over there" or "D-team, let's go over there" (laughs).

Koga You even go so far as to set that up. That sounds interesting!

Kajiwara It looks like Najimi's stock is going to rise.

Murakawa: My familiarity's stock is going to go up! (laughs)

--I'm looking forward to seeing what episodes we can expect to see in the second season!
