Obituary: Shintaro Ishihara, writer and politician who also worked on the original plan for "Space Battleship Yamato: Resurrection Arc," passes away.

Shintaro Ishihara, author and former governor of Tokyo, passed away on February 1, media reports revealed. He was 89 years old.

Shintaro Ishihara was born on September 30, 1932.
After making his debut in the literary world in 1956, he was first elected to the House of Councillors in 1968.
He became a politician, serving as Commissioner of the Environment Agency and Minister of Transport, and from 1999 to 2012 he served as Governor of Tokyo.

In addition to his activities as a writer and politician, he also worked on the draft of "Space Battleship Yamato: Resurrection Arc," which was released in theaters in 2009.
