So, this time, I would like to feature a management simulation game on Steam that will make you lose track of when to stop and get hooked.

1. Let's Build a Zoo" is a zoo management simulation that can create more than 300,000 kinds of animals!

When was the last time you visited the zoo? I am ashamed to say that I, too, cannot remember when was the last time. When I was in elementary school, the zoo was a regular spot for field trips, but since I became an adult, I don't go there very often anymore. It is definitely fun when I go, though. ...... So, "Let's Build a Zoo," which I would like to introduce to you, is a work with such a zoo theme.
As the name suggests, this title is a management simulation game that allows you to build your very own zoo. It features beautifully drawn graphics in dots with a pop taste. If you like this game, you will probably be excited just by the visuals that remind you of this retro game.
Management simulation games tend to have an image of a game in which there are so many things you can do that you tend to get lost in the early stages of the game. In this respect, this game uses a so-called quest system in which the goal is to complete "tasks" that are presented to the player each time, so there is no need to worry about what to do. It can be said that this game is relatively low in difficulty and easy to play among games of the same genre.
The zoo's main attraction is, of course, its wide variety of animals; if there is not a single animal on display, it is not a zoo at all, but just a park. So, let's start building cages for the animals to be exhibited. First, create an enclosure around the animals, and then place the animals in the enclosure. After placing the animals, don't forget to install water fountains and environmental enrichment (playthings to realize a "happy life" for the animals).
The animals to be placed are acquired by trading at zoos around the world on the "World Map," or by purchasing them at the "Animal Shelter," an animal shelter. It's a bit of an elaborate system with a strange sense of reality.
The zoo is not only a wonderful place to exhibit animals, but also a wonderful place to visit. Various facilities for visitors, such as restrooms, trash cans, and benches, as well as commercial and dining facilities, such as souvenir stores, food stores, and vending machines, are also indispensable elements. The best part of the management simulation game is to worry about the placement of animals here, stores here, vending machines next to stores (......), and so on.
Incidentally, each of the commercial and restaurant facilities can be individually configured in detail. You can set the price, the percentage of caffeine in drinks, the percentage of chemical seasoning in hot dogs, and so on. Since this is an area that affects sales and the reputation of the zoo, it is important to carefully consider the details.
Another important aspect is the employment of staff, who are indispensable to the zoo. Recruit cleaning staff, sales staff for various commercial facilities, etc., as needed, and have them work hard for the betterment of the zoo.
As is typical in management simulation games, once the zoo has been enhanced to a certain extent, you will want to create new facilities and equipment to further improve the zoo. In this title, you can unlock new elements such as "shrubs" and a "cotton candy shop" by spending "research points," which you obtain as you progress through the game. This unlocking system is similar to a so-called "skill tree," and is designed to be unlocked in stages, making it one of the more challenging elements of the game.
Now, you may have felt that this title is a "fairly orthodox zoo management simulation" based on what we have introduced so far. Certainly, the placement of animals, installation of facilities and equipment, hiring of staff, and gradual unlocking of new elements ...... are all part of the royal road to a management simulation system. However, there is one extraordinary feature of this work that sets it apart from the highways.
It is, of course, "DNA mating," which allows the creation of new species of organisms. Once the game has progressed to a certain degree and a DNA breeding facility has been constructed, it is possible to crossbreed different species and create a mysterious new species of animal that does not exist in the world. For example, the "giraffe elephant," which has the head of an elephant and the body of a giraffe, and the "pig owl," which has the head of an owl and the body of a pig, are among the more than 300,000 species of animals that can be created! This element of creating strange and dangerous animals is the greatest feature of the game and its unique appeal.
Some may be wondering, "Is it ethical to create such a dangerous animal as a cross between an elephant and a giraffe? It goes without saying that some may be concerned about the ethics of creating such a dangerous animal as a cross between an elephant and a giraffe. Needless to say, it is safe to say that it is safe because it is a fictional event depicted in the game, but it does affect the status of "morality" that exists in the game. The existence of this "morality" is another major feature that sets this game apart from other management simulation games. Depending on whether morale is good or bad, unlockable elements and events that occur in the zoo can be changed, which in turn affects the management of the zoo.
There are also many events that tilt the moral compass in the direction of "evil" in exchange for profits, such as doing business with black market dealers who sometimes appear among the visitors, or putting fake tails on geese and pretending they are peacocks for display. It may be interesting to play the game in an "evil" way, as it is only possible in a game.
Let's Build a Zoo" is a blend of an orthodox management simulation game with unique, unique, and unique elements, such as DNA crossbreeding, in which different species of animals can be crossbred to create new creatures, and a moral system in which you can become either good or evil. We recommend this title to those who are tired of ordinary management simulation games.
2. Heal yourself with colorful fishes! Megaquarium," a classic aquarium management simulation
- Megaquarium" (Twice Circled)

On a personal note, the author moved from Tokyo to Osaka last year and went to visit Osaka's famous aquarium, Kaiyukan. I was amazed by the power of the whale sharks, was soothed by the humor of the sunfish, but the cuteness of the otters was just the best. I want to see them again. ...... So, "Megaquarium," which I will introduce to you, is a game that takes place in such an aquarium.
This title is a management simulation game that allows you to create your ideal aquarium. The title "Megaquarium" is a coined word that combines "mega," meaning "amazing," and "aquarium," meaning "aquarium. As the name suggests, let's build an amazing aquarium! With this enthusiasm, we started the game.
There is a "Campaign Mode" in which you advance through the scenario while clearing the objectives presented to you, and a "Sandbox Mode" in which you can freely build an aquarium without any restrictions. If you are a beginner in simulation games, choose "Easy"; if you want to challenge yourself in a harder game, choose "Difficult" or "Outrageous". If you find the game too difficult, you can change the difficulty level midway through the game.
In the "Campaign Mode," "Goals" are displayed in the upper right corner of the screen, and the game progresses with the goal of achieving them. The game is designed to be easy to play, even for those who do not usually play games, as it is very thorough, starting with how to move the camera, which is the basic operation.
After confirming how to operate the game, you will want to start building an aquarium. After deciding on the position and size of the aquarium and placing the tank, we would like to start putting in the fish ....... However, the water quality is poor and the water temperature is low, so the fish will not be able to survive. This is where the filter and heater come in. By placing these devices adjacent to the aquarium, the water quality and temperature in the tank are increased.
Once the water management is in place, it is time to introduce the fish you have been waiting for. The game has about 100 types of marine organisms, and as you advance your research in the game, you will unlock more and more new organisms. The research does not require visitors to do anything complicated, but rather a simple system in which visitors accumulate "ecological research points" as they view the aquarium. Visitors can enjoy the excitement of each new fish as they are released, as the aquarium is filled with brightly colored fish such as yellow and pink, as well as rare fish that can only be found in aquariums.
Another key point is that the system is designed to be realistic, with different management methods and precautions for each fish.
For example.
The Yellow-bar Soldierfish "likes plants, so plant plants in the aquarium.
The Black-bar Soldierfish is nocturnal, so it is necessary to add driftwood and other cave decorations to the aquarium.
These and other detailed conditions for keeping Blackbar Soldierfish are based on their actual ecology, and are a good way to learn about them. Management takes time and effort, but this time and effort is the real thrill of this management simulation game.
When the tanks and fish are ready, you can finally open the museum ...... and before that, hire staff for jobs such as feeding the fish, repairing broken equipment, cleaning the museum, and so on. Each staff member has his or her own qualities and strengths and weaknesses, so you will need to assess the situation in the museum and decide who to hire.
You can then assign them to different areas of the building, for example, "You work on this half of the building, and you work on the other half! You will work on this side of the building and the other half on the other side! Naturally, the staff must be paid a salary, so it is important to find the most efficient way to get the smallest number of staff to do their jobs. It has a puzzle-like feel to it, and you can enjoy the feeling of being a manager while racking your brains.
Now, the filters and heaters that we had just installed in close proximity to the tanks were left bare and visible to customers (or rather, in the pathway). Frankly speaking, it did not look good. By installing a "wall tank" and a "staff entrance," it is possible to create a "backyard" behind the tank where only staff can enter.
As the game progresses further, "pumps" will appear that will allow you to place filters and heaters away from the aquarium, making it possible to create something quite close to a realistic aquarium. The more you play, the more new elements you unlock, and the more sophisticated your aquarium becomes, which is one of the major attractions of this title that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Megaquarium" is a simple and easy-to-play simulation game that offers all the fun of a management simulation game, including aquarium layout, fish management, and staff operation. Zoom the camera in to the maximum, and you can walk around your aquarium from a first-person perspective, which is a fun element that may make you feel like you are really visiting an aquarium. This work can be recommended for a wide range of players, from beginners to experts in management simulation games.
3. Landlords are very busy! The Tenants" is a real estate management simulation game that makes building rooms fun!
- The Tenants" (Ancient Forge Studio)
- Genre: Simulation
- Release date: March 25, 2021 *Early access
- Price: 2,050 yen (as of January 14, 2022)

To those of you who live in apartments or condominiums, how is your relationship with your landlord? I used to live in an apartment where I could see the landlord's house from the window, which made me a little nervous. The Tenants" is a work about such a landlord.
This title is a "real estate management simulation" in which the player becomes a real estate owner and manages various properties. This may give the impression that there are many complicated elements to the game, but don't worry, it is a surprisingly easy game to play!
So, let's start the game right away. The story begins when the main character arrives in a town named Wondersville to start a new job. The protagonist's uncle, an old gentleman with a white beard and a beret, gives him a tutorial called "Business Training.
Your first job is to clean the camper where your uncle's friend Pedro lives. Icons will appear on dirty or broken areas, and you will click on them to give instructions and have your uncle clean up the mess.
After the cleaning is complete, the next step is to renovate the house. Renovation is an English word meaning "innovation, renewal, or restoration," and refers to renovation work that adds new functionality and value to an existing building. While actual renovation is a large-scale project, renovation in this work can be done simply by selecting the client's desired wallpaper and furniture from a list and placing them on the screen. The necessary items are listed on the right side of the screen, and the user can jump to the appropriate list by clicking on the text, which is a very kind design that allows for a quick and comfortable play.
Renovation evaluations are increased by selecting furniture that suits the tastes of the residents and is of good quality. The higher the evaluation, the higher the reward, so you should actively aim for a high evaluation. In addition, some items are compatible with each other, and bonus scores can be earned by placing items that are compatible with each other in close proximity. For example, placing toilet paper near the toilet and a towel rack near the shower are compatible with each other. If you place items with the feelings of the people who will be using the room in mind, you will naturally gain compatibility bonuses. These elements make renovation a puzzle-like mini-game rather than a simple task, creating an addictive experience that will keep you playing for hours after you realize it.
Once you have earned a certain amount of money from the renovation requests that come into your phone one after another and restored the lifelines in the apartment that your uncle gave you, you will finally be able to start living the life of a dream landlord.
First, I do some quick cleaning (although it is my uncle who actually does the cleaning), and after completing the renovations, I organize a tour of the house. Soon after, prospective tenants arrive, so you negotiate the rent and sign the contract! The player's apartment now has its first resident. The indescribable joy of having the house you spent so much time and effort renovating chosen as the stage for your new life is a feeling that landlords can never get enough of.
The work of a landlord does not end here, however. Trouble is always present, both in real life and in the game.
"There are a lot of G's in my room! The wall collapsed due to an earthquake! The player must choose whether to ask the uncle to take care of the problem, pay a fee to hire a contractor, or ignore the situation. If the player dispatches an uncle, the player will have to do the work manually, but if the player asks a contractor, the work will be completed automatically, so using a contractor is recommended when other work such as renovation is being done elsewhere. Incidentally, if you can successfully resolve the problem, you will improve your reputation with the residents and gain their trust, so you want to make a steady success of the project. The busyness of dealing with residents left and right is one of the real pleasures of this work.
The author's favorite part of the game is the fun of renovating. In real life, there are people who like to redecorate their rooms, but in this game, you can enjoy that feeling with the ease that only a game can provide. As long as the client's requirements are met, there is no problem in terms of the game, so you can freely enjoy creating rooms that are cool or strange, or whatever your sensibilities dictate. The number of new items that can be used increases as the level of the room increases, which is also motivating. The "room-building" aspect of the game is fun for a select group of players, but those who like it will find themselves hooked.
The Tenants" is packed with busy but fun elements such as renovations and dealing with residents. This title is an early access game at the time of this writing, so we can expect even higher quality and more content when it is officially released. If you are interested in this game, please play and experience the landlord experience.
In the game, you are an astute manager from today!
So, we have introduced three recommended titles.
The zoo, the aquarium, and the apartment building may be different, but all three games share the same time-stealing fun. It is not easy to experience running a business in the real world, but if you are interested in any of the titles introduced here, we hope you will try your hand at running a business in a game!
