When you are a working adult, you tend to have a lot of plastic models piled up in your busy life. ...... In this series, Yasuyuki Tai, a voice actor who loves robots and plastic models, takes on the challenge of building plastic models on your behalf!
The concept is "even busy working people can make it this far on their weekends off. There are only two rules: bare bones assembly and a production period of one to two days! If you read this series, you will surely find the plastic model you want to build.
So, "Weekend Plastic Model Making by Voice Actor Taiyuki! Weekend Plastic Model! Let's start the 47th issue!
Episode 47: The Hundred Edge
This time, we will be looking at the completely original new kit series "Yugami" designed by my friend and product designer, Kyoryu Kuramochi. We would like to introduce the first kit in the series, the 1/100 scale "Handled Edge!
This is an excellent kit with three features: "large," "variable," and "color-coded. Some of you may be interested in what it is like.
I hope this article will be helpful!
By the way, I am in charge of the PV narration.
First, the package.
Behind the humanoid (hert stage) form, the beast (hert vehicle) form is depicted, so you can tell at a glance that it is a variable robot. It is a stylish package illustration.
The number of runners is not that many, but each of the parts is large, so each piece is quite voluminous.
The assembly instructions include color recipes, world setting, and setting illustrations. There is still a lot left to play with in the settings, so you can have fun with it in your own way.
I was able to assemble it in about 4 hours. The height of the humanoid form is about 23 cm. It is big. I felt satisfied when I held it in my hand!
As you can see, it is a "chest lion" robot, which is rare for such a "realistic" mecha.
The overall body is light and has many 3mm diameter joint holes in each part, making it easy to customize.
Rear view. The lack of fixed armament is also neat.
Other than the main body, there are the accessories shown here and two surplus parts that may be used for something in the future. There is also a spare green sticker.
The twin cameras peeking out from behind the thin smoke visor are cool. The color-coding of the shoulder armor is also fully reproduced in separate parts.
The eyes of the lion's head are also reflected by the stickers. The way the parts that are part of the vertical girth have been removed is excellent. I think this is one of the features of this robot.
The parts that should have been joints are almost completely resolved by the details and color scheme.
The front waist armor is also small and looks like a high-mobility mecha. It is unusual that the waist side armor is fixed to the thighs,
In the legs, we can see parts that will become the hind legs in lion form, and we are looking forward to seeing how they will transform.
The joint units between the thighs and knees, and between the knees and shins, are a highlight.
The rear plate-like parts are connected to the body side, not the backpack. Three joint holes can be seen on the backpack.
On the waist, the tail parts of the lion form are put together.
The legs have joint holes on both sides and behind the shin.
The base of the neck is also detailed. No detail left unturned.
Next, let's take a look at the range of motion.
The neck is connected with a ball joint. There are structures around the head, so be careful not to interfere with them when rotating the head.
The shoulder joints are connected to the shaft and can be rotated to raise the arms.
Horizontally, it can go up to a little more than 90°.
The shoulder joint can also swing back and forth on the body side.
Shoulder armor is also independently movable up and down a little.
Roll rotation on the second arm. Elbows are double-jointed and bend as much as the human body. Wrist is ball-jointed, so it can move grizzly.
Rotation is possible at the waist.
Front and rear leg opening ends here.
The side armor at the waist is fixed, so the left and right legs can be opened up to this level.
The hip joint swings at the base, allowing the ankle to stand in a "C" position.
The knee joints are double-jointed and move backward to this level.
The ankles are connected with ball joints above the ankle armor. Swing and rotation are possible with a single joint.
Backpack thrusters are also movable. Very detailed!
The wing on the back can be rotated with a joint axis.
Let's take advantage of the movable parts and pose the figure!
First, let's try some melee combat!
The high kick, or rather the upper kick, can be done up to this level.
She can also stand on one knee.
A flat hand is also included for the left hand!
Lionette shield can be equipped with attachment parts. The surface is made of clear parts and the frame is made of gray parts, an interesting combination.
On the back, an attachment to mount a change fang rifle can be mounted. The attachment has a 3mm shaft, so it can be mounted in a different location.
In addition, a long-barreled fang sword is also included. Although a rifle is also included, it gives the strong impression of being good at melee combat.
One sword slash!"
Just before slashing away with a single flash!
The Change Fang Rifle can also be used in sword mode. The Fang Sword can also be used in reverse hand-held mode!
Two swords can be equipped in one unit.
The rifle transforms as you can see.
It can be used to target enemy aircraft!
Shooting from the hip with a flat hand.
I put my hand on my waist like a victory pose in a competitive game.
Please take a look at the manual for more information on the aircraft settings, and let your imagination run wild.
Now, let's see the biggest showcase of this machine, its transformation!
Chainage!
Start the transformation!
The front of the shoulder armor rotates so that it faces the side. The abdomen is extended upward.
Keep the wrists so that the backs of the hands face completely toward the back.
Fold the white parts of the lower half of the lumbar side armor to the rear.
Rotate 180° from the base of the wrists to deploy the lion's fore ankles. Fix them with the joints on the backs of the hands.
Slide the thighs toward the side armor to move the legs outward.
Deploy the tail parts that were put together behind the waist. Open the gray claws in the middle of the arm under the backpack.
Move the arm to move the backpack down and secure it to the body again with the gray claws you just deployed.
Push the gray square part that appears when the backpack is moved out of the way to the back.
The lion's head on the chest should be pushed forward.
Rotate the head 180° and tilt the head down.
The chest part is unfolded upward.
The joints below the knee armor, which were not moved in the human form, are deformed into reverse joints. Adjust the knees accordingly.
Rotate the ankle parts of the humanoid to the back of the shin with a gapping motion, completing the deformation of the hind legs.
This completes the lion-shaped mecha, Handled Edge (Held Vehicle form).
It performs the deformation with a toy-like response.
It looks like a simple deformation, but it is amazing that the deformation by drastic movement of parts is realized in an assembled kit. When you actually touch it, you will be amazed at the mass of ideas.
The front view is very powerful! The vertical gripping parts are red and stand out.
The tail is charming, but that's not all. The animal-like lines of the hind legs are powerful and wonderful.
From the side. The balance of the humanoid figure has been transformed into an animal-like balance.
From the top. The wider hind legs express more animal-like features, especially the lion's stout body.
The lion's mouth can be opened and closed.
At the base of the neck, the lion can swing up, down, left, and right, but only slightly.
The front paws can roll and point upward. I thought they were fixed, so this is a surprise.
By the way, there is a "paw" detail on the paw.
Everyone loves paw pads, right?
The back legs can also be rolled. The toes are movable in the closed direction. The ball joint connection above the ankle armor can also be used, so you can move them as much as you want without any interference.
Note that the back legs do not have paw pads.
A change fang rifle is mounted on the backpack, with the top and bottom of the rifle reversed from the humanoid version.
When firing at high power, it may spread its legs wide like this to stabilize its stance.
Handed Edge leaping at the enemy!
The play value is such that you may forget that it is an assembly kit.
Now, as for the usual "plus one more step," this time I wanted to keep it to a light step, assuming that I want to play hard, so I decided to use Kreos' weathering color Multi Black for the smear.
Especially white parts are prone to color bleeding, making it difficult to see the details when the model is unassembled, but by smearing it, the details can be clearly seen.
Smearing on white armor is very effective. The details on the vertical parts are also smeared well.
Even the small details on the thighs and shins look a little different without Smile.
I prepared another kit and made it carry two change fang rifles on its back. It looks more like a cannon type.
In its humanoid form, it does not seem to be good at handling large amounts of firepower, but in its lion form, perhaps because of its stability, it seems to fit in very well. I'm wondering whether I should customize it around the lion form or the humanoid form. ......
I just noticed that the black block on the top of the lion's head has "cat ears" on it. Once I noticed it, I can't help but think it's cute.
In addition to equipping two change fang rifles, there is actually an advantage to having two fang swords as well.
In fact, two Fang Swords can be connected together!
Then, a double fang sword like this is completed!
It looks even more specialized for melee combat with swords.
Handed Edge wielding the double fang sword with both hands.
Handed Edge holding the double fang sword in his back hand.
The fang sword is a long weapon on its own, but connecting two of them makes it even more powerful.
This time, only smearing was done, but since it is an original model, it is up to the purchaser to decide what kind of texture should be used.
You can paint it, stain it as much as you like, or create the Handled Edge you want, and let's play together in the "World of Handled Edge"!
Handled Edge is currently developing a "Handled Edge Alma" with additional equipment installed. Moreover, a package of only additional parts for those who already own this kit is also under consideration.
We are looking forward to seeing this one as well.
Also, using the 3mm joints on each part, I think various modifications can be easily done. If you don't want to enter it in a contest, you are free to enjoy it as an individual, so please feel free to customize it! (I'm itching to customize mine, too.)
(I am really itching to customize it myself.) Since my best friend is designing this series, I would like to keep up with it, so please look forward to the next installment!
