Color supervised book "Shin Evangelion the Movie: Animation Drawings, Vol. 1" to be released in late May 2022!

Shin Evangelion the Movie," which was fully released on March 8, 2021, marks the first anniversary of its release today. To commemorate the anniversary, the first official Shin Eva book, "Shin Evangelion the Movie: The Animation Drawings Collection, Volume 1," will be released in late May 2022. Pre-orders will be accepted from today at Evangelion Store and bookstores nationwide. The price is 4,070 yen (tax included).

The Evangelion movie series began with the 2007 movie "Evangelion: Preface," followed by ":Evangelion: Break" in 2009 and ":Evangelion: Q" in 2012. The final part of the series, "Shin Evangelion the Movie," was a social blockbuster, recording a final box-office revenue of 10.28 billion yen despite its release at the Corona Disaster, and became the highest-grossing film released in 2021.

This original art book contains the first half of "Shin Eva". It features color prints of the original drawings and layouts, including the battle of Paris in the Avant title and Shinji and his friends' life in the third village. Thousands of scanned data are carefully retouched to reproduce the texture of the original color pencil drawings, allowing the reader to enjoy the ingenuity and skill of the animators.
The cover illustration is newly drawn by Atsushi Nishikori, Chief Animation Director.

As a compilation of the "Evangelion" series, this book brings together the best of the hand-drawn techniques of the animators who have gathered at Studio Color. This is a book that should be seen by all aspiring animators.
