Lean no Tsubasa" original soundtrack is available for download today! Comments from director Yoshiyuki Tomino and musician Yasuo Higuchi have arrived!

Today, March 28, 2022 (Monday), the original soundtrack of "Lean's Wings," directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, began to be distributed in advance.

Directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, "Wings of Lean" is a six-episode video work distributed in 2005 based on a novel of the same title published by the director himself in 1983, and is represented by "Saint Dunbine" (1983) and "Gauzey's Wings" (1995). It is part of the "Byston Well Series. Set in the world between the sea and the earth, Baiston Well and the world on the ground, the story is about the love and adventures of a boy, Asap Suzuki, who is invited by the "Wings of Lean," the power that connects the world, and Lux Sakomizu, the princess of Houjou Kingdom.

The music is composed by Yasuo Higuchi, whose eloquent and grandiose orchestral soundtracks will add dynamic color to the worldview of this otherworldly film. The sound, mastered in New York at the time, was released for the first time since the film's release in 2005, 17 years after its initial distribution and pre-release.

The first Blu-ray and soundtrack CD releases are scheduled for 2023.

The Happiness of "Lean's Wings" Original Story and General Director Yoshiyuki Tomino
The only happiness I had with "Lean's Wings" was that the music for the film's musical accompaniment was composed by a composer with a natural gift, Mr. Yasuo Higuchi.
This is because this work, which I wrote and produced based solely on my own feelings, did not gain popularity, but thanks to this music, I have the happiness of being inspired to revisit the work.
Although more than 30 years have passed, the media environment has changed, and the happiness of being able to see it again is due in part to the people who watch it, for which I am sincerely grateful.

Memories of Music Meetings
Let me write this as I recall what happened 17 years ago. I took a private train from the station and walked through a shopping arcade to get to the Sunrise office, where I was to have a music meeting with Director Tomino. There was a small room connected to a large room where the meeting was to take place.
The director entered from the large room. The door was left open. The director said, "If I enter this room and close the door, the people in the other room will be worried that the director is talking about something secret, so I leave the door open. He said that he always does this so that people don't feel uneasy. The commission for the composition was a simple request, "I want you to write music with that kind of concern. The rest was just chit-chat, and that was the only important musical meeting. I thought, "Well, they came up with a riddle," but then I decided, "Then I'll come up with a riddle, too. I got several copies of the drawings from the storyboard, so I chose one of them, an overhead shot, and pasted it on the wall. The Bystone Well drawing, which is now like the look from a drone. I am the type of person who can write as much as I want once I have a world view. Inspired by the picture, I wrote 36 pieces of riddle music as fast as I could.
On the day of recording, Director Tomino came to the studio and sat on the floor of the control room listening to the music. I don't know if he always does this, but he was smiling as he listened, and he didn't seem to mind that I had answered a riddle with a riddle. If he didn't like it, he must have left quickly. I'm glad I didn't get angry.
