You can enjoy making a collection of mechanics from the classic animation "Nadia of the Mysterious Sea! A thorough review of the "Nadia Mechanic Selection"! Taiyuki's Weekend Plastic Modeling Vol. 51
When you are a working adult, you tend to have a lot of plastic models piled up in your busy life. ...... In this series, Yasuyuki Tai, a voice actor who loves robots and plastic models, takes on the challenge of building plastic models on your behalf!
The concept is "even busy working people can make it this far on their weekends off. There are only two rules: bare bones assembly and a production period of one to two days! If you read this series, you will surely find the plastic model you want to build.
So, "Weekend Plastic Model Making by Voice Actor Taiyuki! The 51st issue has begun!
Vol. 51 Nadia Mechanic Selection
Last year marked the 30th anniversary of the TV animation "Nadia of the Mysterious Sea. Although based on Jules Verne's novel "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," this work showed a surprising science fiction development toward the end of the story. The main character, Nadia, Jean, and many other memorable characters, both friend and foe alike, were in this work.
In addition to the characters, we must not forget the mechanics that made the story so exciting!
The kit introduced here is a gorgeous item that includes four types of mecha selected from those that appeared in "Nadia of the Mysterious Sea! From the package illustration, many people may think that the kit contains 4 pieces, but in fact, this kit is a set of 6 pieces of 4 different types!
The package has illustrations of the Nautilus, Grattan, Garfish, and Garfish II.
Belfine's "Min-Kore!" series, such as "Time Mecha Buton," has been released in the past, and I was a little smitten by the inclusion of Grattan in this lineup (Grattan's motif, according to director Hideaki Anno, is "Time Mecha Buton").
On the side of the package are pictures of paint samples and an introduction to the work.
I guess I often look for this side in stores.
There is one runner for the Nautilus, one for the Grattan, and one white and one red runner for the Garfish and Garfish II sets.
Instructions and water transfer decals for the Garfish and Garfish II are included.
Let's start with the Nautilus, which, like the A1 and A8, are separate parts for easier painting.
Also, as you can see, each runner is easy to split and can be used as a stir bar or compacted for disposal.
Before completing the Nautilus, you will first assemble this "main block. This block is the part that contains the bridge and captain's quarters, and was used as an escape device when the Nautilus roared to a halt during the film. Naturally, this is the first time it has been reproduced in a plastic kit.
When separating from the Nautilus, the deck behind the bridge is removed.
When turned over, you can see that the "diving ball" peeking out from the bottom of the Nautilus was connected to this main block.
The stabilizers are stowed and the ship is in a docked state. It is fully transformed.
Here is the hull of the Nautilus with the main block removed. This was also called the "battle block.
Once the main block fits snugly into the hull and the deck between the bridge and the captain's cabin is attached, the Nautilus is complete.
This is an all-purpose submarine with lines that feel both powerful and gentle. It is not a warship, so do not call Captain Nemo "captain.
Although there are many structures in the hangar and the rear where the thrust is gathered, the parts are divided in a way that seems to take into account the ease of painting.
There is also a pedestal, so the model can be displayed like a scale model ship kit.
The reproduction of the shape is probably perfect.
Viewed from above and below. The upper and lower screws used for surfacing and sinking seem to be relatively large in size, but the features can be seen clearly and give a good impression.
The Nautilus moving in the sea, an impressive angle in the OP. The Nautilus is of a reasonable size, so it would be interesting to create a diorama of the Nautilus submerging underwater.
The main screw at the rear is also very powerful.
The bow of the ship. The hatch for the flying mines is also clearly detailed.
The bridge area is also clearly detailed for its size. The aft hangar hatch is also a separate part, so you may want to modify it to make the hatch open.
The crest of the "former Kingdom of Tartessos" is engraved on the base.
To remove the main block, push in the diving ball part on the bottom and lift it up.
Garfish & Garfish II
Next is the Garfish. This is the submarine of Neo-Atlantis, which was feared as a sea beast. The sides of the hull are lined with round details that glowed like the eyes of the sea beasts in the play.
This is the first commercialization of this model as a plastic kit!
The ram (impulse horn) on the bow is saw-like and appears to be used to attack the bottom of the ship. The torpedo tubes and water spout (?) are sculpted by dividing the parts. The torpedo tubes and the water inlet (?) are well reproduced three-dimensionally by dividing the parts.
The stern is thinner than the bow, which is also typical of submarines. If a submarine were to be hit by the ram of this bow, it would be impossible for a normal submarine to stand a chance.
This submarine has a completely different atmosphere from the Nautilus. It looks like a deep-sea creature.
From above and below. In fact, this submarine may be more like a submarine than the Nautilus, which was modified based on a spaceship.
The coat of arms of Neo-Atlantis is engraved on the base of this one.
The Garfish can also be recreated in its "rapid-fire cannon" deployed state by replacing some of the parts.
Let's build the red runner Garfish as well. Remove the panel on the top of the ship and attach the rapid-fire cannon to complete the figure.
Since it is connected to the shaft, it can be mounted facing in any direction. It was often used in undersea battles with the Nautilus.
This is also the first kit of the Garfish II, a submarine with a very sharp and refined design compared to the first generation. The bow ram of this one has a sharp spear-like shape. It also showed the assault on the Nautilus.
The slender body seems to be more similar to the garfish than the first generation. The large rudder at the stern is also distinctive.
I mentioned earlier that it looks more like a garfish, but when viewed alone, it looks even more like a deep-sea fish.
From the top and bottom. According to the settings, the garfish II is larger than the first model, but the "II" looks like a more reasonable shape for moving through the water.
The inside of the water spout is also well reproduced with a separate part.
The main insignia of Neo-Atlantis is also engraved on this pedestal.
Grattan
Now, let's get to the Grattan! Here is the Grattan, which I personally have been looking forward to the most!
Having only been released as a soft vinyl kit and a finished toy in the past, this is the long-awaited plastic kit version!
The round and adorable figure has been perfectly reproduced.
In assembling the kit, there is one part that I would like to explain as a supplement to the instruction manual: the installation of the cannon. If you put the "a" part straight down as indicated by the arrow in the instruction manual, it will get caught on the main body, so assemble it as shown by the red arrow by squeezing the "a" protrusion.
Rear angle. Like the Nautilus, the Graten is also divided into parts in a very kind manner, as if the painting process was taken into consideration.
The color-coded parts of the body, cylinders, chassis, and even the headlights are separate parts.
I think it is difficult to make the rounded body of a rounded machine, but in my opinion, the body line of this Grattan is super perfect! I think the body line of this gratin is super perfect in my opinion!
Cute hips. Although Gratin is such a cute girl, she played many important roles in the movie. This gap may be one of the charms of Grattan.
The hatch part, which looks like an eye, is a separate part, which is very helpful when painting the figure.
Both side hatches have a gap to catch nails and other objects, as magic hands are attached by replacement. The detail of the rattles are also reproduced.
The rear snorkel parts are also reproduced as set.
Now, let's reassemble the model to "Magic Hand Mode". First, remove the hatch on the side of the body.
Attach the magic hand to the bearing that appears inside the hatch, and attach the open hatch to complete the model.
When it first appeared, it hunted down Nadia and Jean with this magic hand, but it looked somewhat comical without a scary atmosphere.
I also wanted the remote-controlled car graticule that appears in the OP!
The back of the hatch is also detailed with a steering wheel. If you have the skill, why don't you try modifying it into an open/close type?
Next is the reconfiguration to "underwater (water) mode". From the running mode, remove the tire base on the bottom of the body, cannon barrel, side hatches, and snorkel parts.
Rotate and stow the turret part.
Install the snorkel parts in the extended state and replace the rear cylinder with one in the screw deployed state.
Attach the base part with the tire stowed state to complete.
Since it cannot be grounded straight as it is, attach it to the pedestal. The round body gives the impression that it is also water pressure resistant.
Initially, it was not possible to dive, but it was improved so that diving work could be performed during the play.
Although not reproduced in this kit, this cylinder part is the most important part of Grattan's equipment, including flight mode and upright mode.
If it has been reproduced so far as a kit, it would be possible to make each mode by modification!
Below the snorkel's air intake, the meat removal hole is filled with a plate part.
Side view. The silhouette has changed greatly with the wheels retracted.
The view from the bottom is also perfect.
The connection to the pedestal is a shaft connection.
Rear view. Each screw faces slightly outward, which is a key point in the graticule underwater (above water) mode.
There are also bearing holes on the bottom of the running mode, so it can be attached to the pedestal in this mode as well.
The pedestal is engraved with the mark of Mr. and Mrs. Grandis, but it is difficult to see in the photo, so we will show you again later with a smeared version.
The pedestals are all lined up! These are all six mecha in the "Fushiginokai no Nonadia Mechanic Selection" set! Many of you are probably thinking that this is a "set of four," so I would like to say out loud that this is a "set of four types of six"!
Partial painting with an extra touch!
Here, as I do every time, I would like to paint the Grattan, which is the first "plastic kit productization," making use of the molding colors!
The red parts are to be left as molded colors, and all other colors are to be painted. Masking is necessary only for the turret and tires. I think this is within the scope of what I would call "easy".
The headlights are painted with a foil sticker cut out of a circle.
The face is not the same as the body, but the atmosphere of the body will be more vivid if the body is painted differently.
The painting process was divided into two separate live-streams. (In between the drying time of the paints, I also made something other than gratin. ......)
How do you like it? Doesn't it make you want to paint?
If you connect a cord to the back, the side view looks like the OP's remote-controlled gratin.
The magic hand is also a separate part of the arm and wrist. The fingers on the wrist are the only part that needs to be painted, but I painted them quickly with a brush. If the paint sticks out, just shave it off and it will be red again.
The screws for the underwater (above water) mode were also painted.
The base of the wheels are painted brown. Easy!
The marks that were hard to see in the previous picture were smeared. This mark was also on the clothes of Grandis and her crew.
And one more thing, the Nautilus was also painted briefly. I painted it silver, although it is not the same color as the original.
There is a lot of color coding around the stern, but most of the parts are separated, so you only need to paint each part individually.
I chose silver for the color of the hull because the song "Our All-Powerful Submarine, the Nautilus" includes the phrase "a huge body of steel shining in silver. The color of the submarine is painted in two different shades of gray, but I think it looks like a special version. It could have been a bit more chrome silver.
But since it is made of space titanium, hardened tektite, or some other unknown spacecraft material, it would be right to paint it any way you like!
Unlike Grattan, this one is painted in parts, so I did not use masking tape to separate the parts. Even so, it can be painted this well, so we would like you to try painting it.
The Nautilus is not smeared. Even so, the metallic paint will show some details by the reflection of the light.
The markings on the pedestal are also clearly visible with smearing.
The garfish is only painted with smears and decals. If you want to paint it as it is set up, it may not be possible to complete it easily during the weekend ......, but if you want to paint it, don't rush and try when you have time.
I really want to paint it because this "eye" like mark is eerie and the color scheme of the setting is even more eerie with its venomous, snake-like look. Fortunately, there are details in the paint line, so painting with a brush may not be as difficult as you think.
I'm sure I'll be able to paint it. I'm sure it will look very good as a ship model once painted.
Smearing the rapid-firing guns also makes it easier to see that there is a distinction between the front and rear. Incidentally, the one in the image above is the front (the one that fires).
Garfish II is smeared on the red side. It may be easier to paint based on this color rather than the white runner.
Decal like "eye" is also attached on II in 4 places.
For the stern, attach decals to the rudder.
The Neo Atlantis is more impressive than the white one, and since there are white runners with good coloring and red runners that can be painted using the coloring, we hope that this will be a good opportunity for you to try painting the Neo Atlantis.
The Neo-Atlantis mark on the pedestal can be clearly seen by smearing the paint.
So far, we have lined up a partially painted Grattan, a fully painted Nautilus, a smeared Garfish and Garfish II, and two ships each. I am happy to be able to line up this number with one product. I would like everyone to experience it. ......
BELFINE's "Min-Kore! series, the first part of the series was mecha from the "Time Bokan" series, and now kits from other works have finally been released, so we are looking forward to seeing what other works will be made into kits in the future.
Now, please wait for the next article while listening to "Bye Bye Blue Water"!
