Perfect proportions, deformation, and combining into SRX! We played with the original robot representing "Super Robot Wars", "RIOBOT Transformable Combination R-1"! Toys and Games of Taiyuki No. 17

The most robot-loving voice actor in the voice acting industry, Yasuyuki, plays around with the latest toy toys and hobby toys!

Gundam, Mazinger Z, Getter Robot, ......, and many other hero robots compete in the dream game series "Super Robot Taisen" (hereafter referred to as "Super Robot Taisen"), which transcends the boundaries between works.

The series, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2020, features original characters and robots that serve as the player's alter ego in some titles.

The character introduced here is one such original character, Ryusei Date of the SRX team. This is a complete toy of "R-1," the robot that he rides!

The first appearance of R-1 was in the PS game "New Super Robot Taisen" released in 1996. The first appearance of R-1, R-2, and R-3, the original robots designed by Hajime Katoki, was a surprise, as they were the first realistic life-size robots to be depicted in the game, whereas they had previously been depicted in deformed forms. The existence of the giant robot "SRX," which was completed by combining the three robots with increased power, was a big shock to players at the time. In addition, the "Balmar Empire," which plays a major role in the story of "Super Robot OG," makes its appearance in this game, and there are many other points of interest in this game.

A quick aside.

Due to its complicated combining gimmick, there are only a few SRX models that reproduce the "combining" action. The R-1, R-2, and R-3 models in the Sentoneri "RIOBOT" series introduced here are almost the first items that reproduce both "combining" and "transformation" simultaneously as general store-bought products.

Now, let's take a closer look at these shocking items. Let's take a closer look at the first one.

First, let's take a look at the front of the package. The foil-stamped name is eye-catching.

On the back are the R-2 Powered and R-3 Powered, which are scheduled to be released in the future, and behind them is the SRX!

On the top side is a picture of the upper body of SRX. On the bottom is a close-up of the SRX head.

On both sides are photos of the R-1 and R-Wing!

The blister package contains the R-1, wrist and wing parts, boosted rifle, and waist side armor with G-Revolver mounted on the first level.

The second level contains a dedicated pedestal, two types of props, and shield-related parts.

Let's attach each part to the R-1 body just removed from the package.

Behind both shoulder armors, connect the wing parts. There are separate left and right sides, so check the instructions carefully.

Transform the waist side armor from the state shown in the left image to the state shown in the right image. ......

Connect to the joint at the base of the thigh.

The joint parts on the back side of the rear skirt can be removed as shown in the right picture if you prefer. If you are concerned about the extra parts, you can leave them attached, but if you want to stick to the figure in the play, you can remove them. But don't lose them!

The wrists are, by default, attached with small ones for deformation. You can leave them as they are, but this time we will replace them with large looking fists.

This completes the R-1. Many of you may be familiar with the shield in this form, as it only appears in the game under special conditions, such as during "shield defense".

Despite the fact that the figure is capable of transforming into R-Wing and combining into SRX, there is no breakdown in the humanoid (personal trooper, hereafter PT) form, and it has a nice style.

Each part is painted in detail, and the head is pre-painted, even the Vulcan cannon and the ducts on both sides. The blade-shaped parts on the back of the head are characteristic of the "PT" form.

The color-coding around the waist is also well done. The center armor this time has a slightly edgy linework.

The main bottleneck in the transformation to the R-Wing is the area around the waist, but if this area were to be completely transformed, it would be very difficult from both a strength and design standpoint.

I wondered if it would be possible to make it fully deformable even if there was a margin of about 1/60th the size. ...... Furthermore, I wonder how huge the SRX would be if it were to be combined. ......

The color coding of the legs is also perfect. The length and balance of the legs are almost exactly as I imagined. The detailed coloring of the calves would have taken a lot of time and effort if it were a plastic kit, but it's nice to see that these parts are pre-painted on the finished toy.

The red parts on the forearms also have straight lines this time.

The size of the wing parts connected to the shoulder armor is also nice. The yellow lines on the back and other details are well reproduced in color.

The calf line is also well balanced.

The shield can be attached to the connecting joints of the arms using the connecting parts.

There is a rectangular hole in the back of both elbows, attach the shield connection joint there.

The shield almost hits the shoulder armor, but when standing straight, the shoulder armor just fits in the recess of the shield.

For the boosted rifle, take out the grip,

You can take out the grip of the boosted rifle and hold it on the weapon handle.

The head can be tilted back and forth and rotated. The head can tilt forward and backward and rotate.

The arms can be raised nearly 90 degrees horizontally. The shoulder joints are connected to the body by a shaft, so they can be rotated, but if they are not, the shoulder armor will interfere with the protrusions on the sides of the chest,

Before rotation, the shoulders can be pulled out a little to avoid the projection on the side of the chest, which allows 360° rotation.

The elbows are double-jointed and can be bent nearly 180°.

The wrists are ball-jointed and movable, allowing for rotation and snapping.

Wing parts can rotate at the joints and can be moved to flip up and down or slide up and down.

The chest block benefits from a deformation gimmick and can be lifted slightly to recreate a forward leaning posture.

The waist front armor can be moved downward to ......

Swing movement of the waist is possible. Since the rear skirt armor interferes with the swing, flip it up when twisting the hips.

The front and rear leg openings are as shown.

Horizontal leg raising is as shown here. The thighs have a roll axis.

The knees are double-jointed and can be bent deeply.

Ankles are ball joint connected. They can be moved forward and backward, left and right, and can be twisted.

Let's take a look at the posing photos.

This is a standing pose inspired by the beginning of the battle animation of "New Super Robot Taisen".

This pose is based on the beginning of the battle animation of "Super Robot Taisen OG: Moon Duelers". This is only a "wind" pose, as the figure is deformed in the game.

There is a hole at the back of the waist to connect to the pedestal. This allows the figure to be posed in the air.

Reproduction of the "T-Link Knuckle" pose from "New Super Robo".

One cold metal knife is stored in the wing block on the back.

The blade of the Cold Metal Knife is silver with a metallic look.

Reproduction of the Cold Metal Knife's pose in the early stages of the battle animation.

Golden Metal Knives!"

Reproduction of G. Revolver from "New Super Robo.

G Revolver's pose from "Super Robo OG: Moon Duelers".

G Revolver can be detached from both hips and held by the weapon handles.

Giant Revolver!

Boosted rifle from "New Super Robo" is included.

Boosted rifle from "Super Robo OG: Moon Duelers".

Woah!

Nendoken ......! T-LINK NAKKOO!

Pose just before slamming the T-LINK knuckles, replacing the left hand with a flat hand.

In fact, paint that reacts to black light is used on the grip hand (punch) and around the camera on the head. Can you see that the fist is reacting faintly? I am very sorry that I could not capture the reaction of the fist well in our environment. ......

From here, I would like to let him pose freely without being conscious of reproducing the scene in the play.

I noticed that it is even cooler when it is agitated.

I tried to make it stand with the "S-stroke stand" in mind as much as possible.

It is also good to equip it with a shield!

Using the pedestal, R-1 moves at high speed with G-Revolver in one hand.

Aiming at enemy aircraft with a boosted rifle from the sky. The voice actor Shinichiro Miki plays Ryusei Date.

The boosted rifle can be mounted on the wing parts. Although it was originally designed to be mounted in the R-wing form, it can also be connected to the PT form without difficulty.

R-1 is holding the cold metal knife backwards, but the handle must be down to prevent it from falling, so it can only be held at a limited angle.

The shield is also not in a fixed position, but rotated for a more flamboyant look to match the pose.

It may be a cool pose for R-1, but don't you think this is stylish and cool?

Two G-Revolvers are held. The shields are mounted without any intention to defend.

I've been busy taking pictures, but now it's time to explain one of the highlights of this product, the transformation into the "R-Wing".

First, return both wrists to their initial state as small wrists.

Remove the entire wrist base, turn over and store the wrists in the arms.

Next, disassemble the whole body once like this.

Remove the blue panel on the back, pull the entire neck up by the base, and unfold the chest block as shown in the image on the right. Also move the rear skirt to the position shown in the photo.

Remove the waist side armor once from the legs,

Raise the connecting pins as shown in the side armor on the right.

Attach the waist sidearm to the bearing parts on the back of the thigh.

Bend 90° at the upper side of the knee double joint.

Keep the knee armor moving downward and fold the ankles.

Attach the joint parts removed from the back of the rear skirt to the connection holes that appear around the knees. Note the top and bottom.

Fold the lower part of the double knee joint further and point the toes backward.

Insert the body part between the legs. Be careful not to damage the parts at this time, as there are parts to be spread a little.

Transform the arms from the left side of the image to the right side.

Deploy the main wings of the wing parts and change the direction.

Connect its arms to the joint parts for combining.

Attach the blue panel parts removed from the back of the fuselage to hide the head.

The shield is ready for transformation by removing the parts on both sides.

Connect the shield to the lifted front armor.

Combine the protrusions on the back of the front armor with the recesses in the shield to complete the transformation of the main body.

Place it on the special pedestal prop parts corresponding to the R-Wing, and mount the boosted rifle on the wing parts.

This completes the R-Wing.
Thanks to the bold decision to use a replacement deformation, the shape of the R-Wing is very close to that of the model.

There are no defects even when viewed from the rear. The soles of the feet have also been painted.

The size of the shield that forms the head of the SRX was a very difficult point, but in this R-1, additional parts were added to achieve a good balance between the various forms. The additional parts are so natural that I didn't notice them until I touched them during the transformation.

The thickness of the top and bottom, which tends to be a concern with realistic variable models, has also been suppressed.

From the front.

Rear angle.

The R-Wing pedestal support parts can be removed and the axis for attaching to the pedestal itself can be flipped over,

R-Wing can be displayed compactly.

The extra parts of the shield, which were removed earlier and are left over, can also be attached to the R-Wing.

From the bottom, you can barely see that the additional parts are attached, but it is nice that they are positioned inconspicuously when viewed from above.

To make the model without any extra parts, you can attach the connecting parts for the shield to the arms.

The connection part of the dedicated pedestal prop will be partially unusable, so this is probably for Boondoggle's exclusive use.

Next, let's look at the preparations for combining the R-Wing with the SRX!

Let's start from the beginning of the R-wing transformation, when both wrists are retracted. Bend the elbows outward 180°.

Remove the blue panel on the back and flip up the rear skirt armor.

Remove the wing parts and also remove both arms.

Pull the neck up and tilt the blade-like parts of the head back.

Lift the front waist armor forward slightly and turn the legs back.

Swap the left and right wing parts and connect them to the shoulder armor.

Split the shield like this.

Combine the center block of the shield with the outermost block to form the head of the SRX.

Expand the part that corresponds to the mouth.

Put this on the head of R-1. Work carefully so as not to scrape off the parts.

The camera eye and other parts of SRX's head react to black light. Cool! I can't wait to combine them!

Transform the waist side armor into the shape shown in the image on the right.

This means that the R-1 is ready to be combined.

Well, I can't wait for the SRX team to come together! When actually combining the three robots, be sure to read the instruction manuals for the three machines carefully.

Although there are three robots that combine into SRX, there is also a robot called "R-GUN Powered" that transforms into an additional armament. The R-GUN Powered is only available at the SEN-TI-NERI online store, so don't miss it!
SEN-TI-NERI Official Online Store (Reservations accepted until June 7, 2022 (Tue) at 21:00)

While the R-1 was the most compact of the SRX team's aircraft to be released, the remaining two aircraft are each quite voluminous. The size and gimmick of the R-3 powered model in particular have been a major obstacle to creating a product that can be combined with other models.

How will they overcome this barrier? ......

In this series of articles, we will continue to follow the SRX until the day when it can be combined with the R-GUN Powered and, if possible, with the "Tenjo Tenka Ichigeki Mushasen Gun" that is triggered by combining it with the R-GUN Powered!

And then, Mr. Senkei Neri! Please consider "Bergbau" and "Habazan" as well!
