You can recreate famous scenes from "Patlabor" with this one set! I built the "MODEROID AV-98 Ingram & Bulldog Set! Taiyuki's Weekend Plastic Modeling Vol. 53
When you are a working adult, you tend to have a lot of plastic models piled up in your busy life. ...... In this series, Yasuyuki Tai, a voice actor who loves robots and plastic models, takes on the challenge of building plastic models on your behalf!
The concept is "even busy working people can make it this far on their weekends off. There are only two rules: bare bones assembly and a production period of one to two days! If you read this series, you will surely find the plastic model you want to build.
So, "Weekend Plastic Model Making by Voice Actor Taiyuki! The 52nd issue of the series has begun!
Vol. 53 MODEROID AV-98 Ingram & Bulldog Set
Good Smile Company's MODEROID series continues to be made into kits. This time, the "Bulldog," a work raver from "Mobile Police Patlabor," has been made into a plastic kit for the first time.
The Bulldog is available in two versions: a set version with the "Ingram" introduced here, and a two-piece Bulldog set version (sold exclusively through the Good Smile Online Shop). The Bulldog is easy to assemble as it has a fairly simple structure for a kit. Since it is a working raver, it might be interesting to prepare multiple pieces to recreate various scenes.
Let's start with the package. The bulldog has gone out of control for some reason, and in the lower left corner, you can see Yuuma Shinohara giving instructions to Akira Izumino.
On the back are the contents of the set. As for Ingram, you can choose decals from the TV version, the movie version, and the Reboot version.
On the top and bottom, the main logo of "Patlabor.
On the left and right sides of the box are illustrations. When displayed in a store, the male figure can be seen from anywhere, making it easy to find.
Since this is a set of two different kits, there are also two instruction manuals. Both are printed in full color and easy to read.
This is the Bulldog runner. Clear parts are provided for the canopy and other parts. As you can see, the parts configuration is very simple.
This is the runner of Ingram. It has the same contents as the single-piece version, and comes with both painted and uncolored clear parts.
In contrast to Ingram's water transfer decals, stickers are included for Bulldog for really easy assembly.
Let's take a look at Bulldog first.
■Bulldog
The Bulldog is designed with a low center of gravity and strong limbs, as it is a work raver. There is no head part, but a driver's seat for the operator to visually operate the machine.
On the back are tanks and pipes. There are tail lights and other details on the waist.
The driver's seat is also visible in the canopy.
The kit is 1/60 scale, so it would be interesting to use a figure of the same scale to board the aircraft.
The hooks on the shoulder armors are removed. ...... is a good example of how one part can make it this far.
The upper surface of the body has a lot of details.
Let's take a look at the range of motion.
The shoulder can be rotated on its axis, and the arm can be raised right up to the top of the body.
The arms can also be lifted horizontally to a certain extent.
The elbow bends about 90° on one axis. Roll rotation is possible on the second arm. The wrists are ball jointed so they can snap and rotate.
The hips have a simple axis connection, so they cannot be bent, but they can rotate in a circular motion.
The hip joints have excellent mobility, and the legs can open 180° both forward and backward, and left and right.
Roll rotation is possible on the thighs. Knees bend 90° on one axis.
Ankles have ball joint connection. Can swing forward and backward, left and right.
The structure is simple, but each part of the fuselage can be moved firmly as a work raver.
When grabbing lumber or other materials, it is tilted forward like this. Even in this position, it stands firmly on its own.
It can also stand on one leg! There are large holes on the soles of his feet, but since he is not a flying character and this is a simple kit, it does not bother me so much when he is boondocking.
The cute appearance of the character makes him look somewhat comical, even if he tries to look cool.
It is also fun to pose them in comical poses like this.
It would be fun to display them in combination with other kits of the same scale of construction machinery. And nowadays, there are plastic kits of trusses, steel frames, and so on.
Next, let's take a look at the MODEROID Ingram.
MODEROID AV-98 Ingram
The colorless patlamps are installed. Other than that, you can see that most of the color coding has been reproduced by dividing the parts. The rising sun emblem on the chest is a pre-painted part.
The color scheme is black and white, as is typical of police vehicles. The sealing of the joints is a characteristic of the Reaver and a challenge when sculpting it. This time, it is reproduced by plastic parts with wrinkle details.
The image of Patlabor is somewhat of an angle from the side. The hole in the shoulder armor (the so-called "buti" hole) has been opened.
Speaking of the head of Unit 1, the balance of the forehead and mask parts is difficult to achieve, but this time, I felt that the size and "MODEROID", a series that handles many character kits, have been put together as a unique modeling.
The winch part of the waist is also well sculpted. You can also see the details of the license plate and blinkers.
The curves of the legs and the balance of the curved surfaces must be a difficult part of sculpting a figure, but I think the figure is perfectly complete. Many of today's plastic robot kits have long legs and a handsome body shape, but this figure has a sturdy and strong body shape. This is the style of the Reaver.
The modeling of the inside of the patroller has also been well reproduced.
When assembling and playing with it, be careful not to apply strong force to the antennae.
Patlabor's leg parts look like simple lines, but the moderate split lines and bends are well balanced. In this kit, such strong points have been properly reproduced.
You may not have noticed any seams in the parts after looking at it this far. It is not that there are no seams, but they are hardly noticeable.
The round gray part of the shield is a separate part that is inserted from the back.
Range of motion.
The head is connected with ball joints and can be moved as you can see.
Movable range of the shoulders. The armor can be lifted horizontally by 90 degrees, and can also be rotated by the shoulder shaft connection.
The shoulder joints on the body side have a built-in swing mechanism, which allows for a fairly large forward swing.
Roll rotation on the elbow. Wrist is ball joint connected.
The elbows can bend this far on one axis.
The hips are quite movable, and by pulling out the joints, it is possible to flex the hips forward and backward, tilt them sideways, and twist them.
Due to the design of the hip joints, the left and right legs can only be opened to this level.
The height of the hip joints can be adjusted independently for each side.
The front and back legs can be opened about 180 degrees.
The knee joints, however, can only be bent shallowly due to interference from the parts at the back of the legs. So, we decided to make the knee joints as shown in ......
Replace the interfering parts with smaller ones (the smaller parts are on the left side). Then ......
It can be bent almost 90 degrees.
The ankle is connected with a ball joint. Only the toe part can be lifted a little.
The right calf can hold a revolver cannon. You can reproduce the scene to take out the revolver cannon with the telescopic arm.
Ingram can also be assembled as a second unit with selectable parts. This time, I assembled the painted shoulder patrol parts.
In fact, there are enough parts to enjoy reassembling Unit 1 and Unit 2 even after completion. By painting and using the colorless clear parts, you can change to either appearance with a single kit, as long as you don't mind the license plate.
Since this is a set with Bulldog, we will introduce it here with Unit 2.
The differences in shape from Unit 1 are the head and shoulder armor. The back view is almost the same.
The head parts are not shared between Unit 1 and Unit 2, so both can be assembled, and there are enough parts to assemble two types of shoulder armor as well.
The shoulder armor of Ingram has a left and right side, so be careful not to make a mistake when applying decals or attaching parts.
Behind the shield, there is a stowed stun stick.
Combined with the extended stance stick, you can recreate the scene where you pull it out like this.
"Get yourself in jail, adult!"
I don't know why ...... it looks like a ten-handed weapon when Unit 2 holds it.
The figure is a combination of a hand and a rope, and can be reproduced in the scene where it is pulled out! You resist!"
Thanks to the swing joints in the shoulders, the revolver cannon can be held in both hands for a cool look.
The light gun can be folded.
"Phew, now it's finally his turn..."
"Get out of here!"
What the hell!
If you want to recreate the scene where he tries to subdue the runaway bulldog, you will want to build him with the No. 2 machine. In the movie version, it was a different working Reaver, though.
Now, let's see what will happen to Mr. Ota, the passenger of Unit 2, after this. ......
Now, let's try "plus a little effort" here.
This is a really simple challenge, a set of two kits for convenience.
For the bulldog, I wanted to emphasize the details, so I applied a brown smear.
It might be interesting to add stains during civil engineering work.
Since this is a relatively simple kit, it is necessary to add some additional painting on the details if you want to finish it well.
The detail of the upper surface of the fuselage is as shown. It is actually amazing that such detail and ease of assembly can be achieved with such a small number of parts.
The tank area is also clearly defined and has a three-dimensional effect by smearing the parts.
If you are going to paint the entire kit, try your best to glue and remove the seams only here.
The area around the tail lamps should be easy to paint with a brush.
Also, it is possible that the coloring may differ depending on the construction company used, so it would be interesting to imagine the color variations.
Next is Ingram. Since I first introduced "Patlabor" in this series, I have painted all the police vehicles because it requires fewer colors ......, and I ended up doing it again this time.
The white parts were a bit grayish in the molded color, so I painted them pure white. I painted the black parts, the gray ears, and the joints, and used the included decals for the blinkers and other parts. I think there is an option to reproduce the figure by painting, but I think the method will be different depending on the person, for example, whether it is possible to paint beautifully ...... because it is a detailed part.
I think it would be nice to have the words "Metropolitan Police Department" on the car. It makes the vehicle look more like a police vehicle.
The black decals around the shoulders and the lights need to be bent at right angles to be applied. On the other hand, be careful not to tear the decals.
The decals for the shield are different depending on the version (TV version, OVA version, etc.), so be sure to check the decals carefully.
It was difficult to paint the black parts after masking the hollows, but I filled the hollows with eraser and painted them separately.
The license plate is also different between the first and second units, so please be sure not to make a mistake.
The winch is painted silver. Since the main body is painted with lacquer paint, I chose enamel paint so that I can wipe off the paint even if it comes off.
The color of the tips of the ears also differs depending on the version. Since I had a strong image of the movie version, I was surprised to see the color of the TV version again.
Since there are extra "Metropolitan Police Department" decals, it might be a good idea to keep them for some other police motif kit.
I wonder why ....... I still think that the stun stick looks like a crossbow, and the shield looks like a lantern.
It's like, "You're wanted! You're wanted!"
I also painted the riat gun. The color scheme is based on photos of model guns.
I painted the grip of the revolver cannon in wood brown as well.
I also painted the TV version in my private time, so please take a look at it.
Can you see the difference in the decals and the paint job between the movie version and the TV version?
The mecha that appeared in the "movie version" are all here one after another.
The first "Patlabor" I saw was the first theatrical version, so I am excited to see all the mecha from that time period.
Of course, the Griffon and others have been made into kits, and I hope that the Phantom, Saturn, and other mecha that appeared in the TV and OVA versions will also continue to be made into kits.
Now, how far will MODEROID's PATLABOR series continue to run? As I always say, I have high expectations~~!
