Interview] Composer Keisho Fujisawa talks about the play "Estab Life Great Escape," which is fun, thrilling, and anything but!

Estabulife" is a big project for which Goro Taniguchi, creator of the "Code Geass" series, serves as the original idea and creative director. The TV anime "Estabulife Great Escape" started in April 2022.
Directed by Hiroyuki Hashimoto, the director of the "Is Your Order a Rabbit? and "Full Metal Panic! is in charge of the series composition and screenplay, and Polygon Pictures is in charge of production. Set in Tokyo in the near future, where people live in clusters (towns), the film depicts the exploits of a group of girls who work as escape artists.
The music (theatrical accompaniment) for this remarkable work is provided by the "Love Live! series and "A Place Farther Than the Universe," among others. He has created numerous pieces of music that color the main female characters, highlight the individuality of each cluster, and add thrills and suspense to the action scenes.
For this interview, we asked Mr. Fujisawa to talk about "Estab Life: Great Escape" from a musical perspective!

For "Estab Life," I was in charge of the musical accompaniment for both the TV anime and the game.

─ ─ "Estab Life" is a big project, starting with a TV animation, followed by a game, then an animated feature film, and then expanding into other media. You were in charge of music for both the TV animation and the game.

Fujisawa: I was first asked to do the music for the TV anime. At that time, I received a proposal that described the concept of "Estabulife," and I realized that this work was envisioned from the beginning to expand its world not only through TV animation, but also through games and theatrical animation. I composed a song based on the worldview ahead of time and gave it to them, and they asked me to compose the music for the game as well.

──We can't wait for the TV anime "Estabulife Great Escape" to start in April and the latest news about the game "Estabulife Unity Memories".

Fujisawa: Production of the music for both has already been completed.

─ ─ How did you feel about the work when you were first asked to do it?

Fujisawa: I was a little bit intimidated, as near-future science fiction is a genre that I have not been involved with very much. The proposal included the keyword "escape" and two existing anime titles to convey the image of the work, which was an unexpected combination, so I thought, "What does that mean? (laugh). (Laughs). The sharp impression of the silhouetted characters and the fact that the director is Hiroyuki Hashimoto, the director of "Is Your Order a Rabbit? I couldn't get a good grasp of the whole picture at first, because there was so much information.

─ Which did you work on first, the TV animation or the game?

Fujisawa: I composed the music for the game first. I composed the music for the TV anime and recorded it at about the same time. The game was more serious than the TV anime, so the accompaniment was more orchestral. I think there are similarities between the TV anime and the game, such as the clusters in the music.

─ ─ The TV anime has a lot of comical elements, with girls as the main characters. Now, I would like to talk about the accompaniment for the TV anime "Estabulife Great Escape".
