Review of "Yurukiru, the False Charge Game" An Inevitable Fusion of Mystery-Solving Adventure and Bullet-Scene Shooter!

How are you doing, Akiba Research Institute readers? This is Nero Hyakkabe, a writer who buys too many games. Suddenly, which do you like better, adventure games or shooting games? They are two genres that have nothing in common, so it may be nonsensical to compare which one you like better, but there is a new game that is a unique fusion of these two genres.

So, in this article, we present a review of "Yurukiru," a game of false accusation and execution, released on May 26, 2022 by Izanagi Games.

The story and characters of "Yurkyl." Criminals falsely accused of crimes take on dangerous attractions in a mysterious amusement park. ......

This title is a "false accusation escape adventure and bullet hell shooter". The game is a fusion of two completely different genres: "adventure," in which players enjoy solving puzzles, deducing mysteries, and enjoying the story, and "bullet hell shooting," in which players try to destroy enemies while avoiding a barrage of bullets. I am sure that there are many people who have no idea what kind of game it is. I was one of them, but when I actually played the game, I found it to be a unique work that blends adventure and shooting without any sense of incongruity or discomfort.

So, let me begin by introducing the story of this work.

The protagonist is a young man named Shunju Sengoku, who wakes up one day in a strange prison cell after being incarcerated for 10 years for the mass murder of 21 people who were burned to death and falsely accused of the crime. One day, he wakes up in a strange prison cell with an ominous collar around his neck. A mysterious woman wearing a fox mask and calling herself "Binko" appears before Sengoku and tells him that he will be challenged to various attractions at an amusement park, and if he wins, he will be given a chance to be exonerated.

A strange woman also appears in front of Sengoku. She is a stunningly beautiful girl named Rina Azami. She is actually the bereaved family member of a victim of the mass murder Sengoku is accused of committing. Rina and Sengoku pair up to form a team and take on the challenge of the attraction. In Yurukyuriland, an uninhabited amusement park where the story takes place, criminals are called "prisoners" and victims are called "executioners," and the rule is that they must pair up to challenge attractions.

In addition to Sengoku and Rina, four other teams were assembled in Yurukyuriland. The four teams, named the "Twins Murder Team," the "Plot Murder Team," the "Stalker Murder Team," and the "Peeping Tom Team," are all individuals with one or two quirks. ...... Six criminals and five victims challenge the attractions with their own feelings in mind: the prisoners are trying to win their innocence, and the executioners are trying to get what they want. As they challenge the attractions, the secrets that each of them holds are gradually revealed. Who will win in the cruel and cunning "Yurkiru Game"? ......

In this unique story, people who have been falsely convicted and falsely accused of crimes team up with the victims of these crimes to participate in a deadly game. The game is played in an eerie, uninhabited amusement park, and the elusive guide, Binko, has a distinctive, cannibalistic manner that is reminiscent of death game movies and manga. ...... If you imitate Binko's phrase, it is inevitable that you will get a "kick" out of this film.

The thrilling and peculiar story is complemented by the unique characters who are the main attraction of this film.

The twin brothers Yamada Futa and Yamada Raita, who are imprisoned for a robbery/murder, have diametrically opposed personalities. They are teamed up by Kagura Kagutuchi, a gal-like girl with the slang "Majipu" in her vocabulary. The combination of the good-looking twins and the cool, easy-going gal make them seem like friends.

Gentoku Omuro is the son of the president of Yurukiru Corporation, which operates the Yurukiru Land amusement park, and he is paired with Isane Akegarasu, a mysterious, unimpressive and timid woman who works for Yurukiru Corporation. The two are from the management company of the amusement park where the game is set, and there is something mysterious about them.

Ichirin Hanaka, a puritanical underground idol imprisoned for murder, and Keiichi Oka, the man she is paired with as her executioner, are a unique combination of an idol and her fan who have always known each other. Oka says he joined the "Yurukiru Game" to clear Hanaka's name, but the details of Hanaka's alleged crime have given them the name "Stalker Murder Team," so it is not a simple matter for these two to solve the case.

And the pair of Akechi Alampo, a prisoner who calls himself a great detective, and Christina Kobayashi, Alampo's assistant, are brother and sister in real life. Alampo, who was arrested as a peeping tom during an investigation and claims to have been falsely accused, and Christina, who adores her brother with all her heart and supports him to the fullest despite being his executioner, are two strong characters who are at once mysterious and somewhat amusing.

The characters are all quirky and interesting. ...... Moreover, since the story of this title has a story structure in which the main character changes with each chapter, players will have the opportunity to directly control these quirky characters.

The original story is written by Homura Kawamoto of "Kette Kegurui-" and the scenario is written by Hikaru Takeno. The rich story woven by the special stage setting and the characters with exploding personalities is sure to draw players in. The characters are designed by manga artist and illustrator Hiroshi Kiyohara. The visuals of these beautiful and mysterious characters, which match the unique worldview of "Yurukiru," are a must-see.

The "Escape Adventure Part" combines authentic puzzle solving with ease of play

This title consists of two main parts: "Escape Adventure Part" and "Full-fledged Bullet Barrage Shooter Part. The combination of these two dissimilar parts is the most distinctive feature of this title, but let's start with the "Escape Adventure Part.

As the name suggests, the Escape Adventure Part is an adventure game-style part in which the player aims to escape from the attractions in Yurukyuriland.
The aim is to move onward, solving the riddles and puzzles presented while obtaining hints by manipulating the cursor and clicking on suspicious-looking places on the screen to investigate them, and sometimes manipulating gimmicks. The game system is similar to the old popular escape games in browser games and cell phone apps, and offers a somewhat nostalgic experience.

I have an image of the old-fashioned escape games where the puzzles are difficult but there are few hints, and once you get stuck, you have no idea what to do, and finally you are completely out of your depth (......). The basic gameplay of the adventure part of this game is in the old-fashioned orthodox style, but the ease of play is modernized.

For example, there are various support elements such as a simple mini-map that shows the location of the room you are in, three hints for each puzzle, and a storyline that provides some hints from the characters' conversations.
In particular, there is no particular penalty for using the hint function, and it can be viewed at any time, so even those who are not good at solving puzzles or solving puzzles can enjoy the puzzles with peace of mind. Another small but nice point is that there are always three hints available. You can view the clues step by step, so that you can enjoy solving puzzles without giving up thinking.

The unique point of this escape adventure part is the structure of the game, which reveals the background of the incidents related to each team and the relationships among the characters as they solve puzzles in order to escape the attraction. For example, in "Fire House," the challenge for Sengoku and his team to escape, they obtain a variety of materials that are key to unraveling the truth of the case, such as investigation materials for the mass murder case of a housing complex bombing that Sengoku is said to have committed, and newspapers of the time that contain the details of the case. In parallel, the backbone and hidden emotions of the executioner, Rina, are gradually revealed.

If players only have to solve one-shot puzzles such as deciphering codes or logic puzzles, they may get bored with the escape game itself. However, by solving "small puzzles," the "big mystery" of the false accusation is slowly revealed, and this structure makes the escape game part of the game a great motivator for players to "want to know what happens next in the story. I felt that this structure gives players a great motivation to "want to know what happens next in the story," and succeeds in keeping them playing without getting bored.

An essential part of the escape adventure part is an event called "Magikill Time," which is inserted during the search.
In the story, the executioner can execute prisoners at any time with an item called a "Yurukiru Passport," but in this "Magikiru Time," the prisoners are questioned by the executioner. The player's objective is to choose the correct option from the choices displayed and pass through the four gates. During the "Magikill Time," the prisoner is in a state of crisis, where he could be killed at any moment, and if he chooses the wrong option, the game is over immediately. As the name "Magikill" implies, the game is a thrilling event filled with murderous intent and madness, providing players with a good mix of unusualness and tension.

The "Full-fledged Bullet Shooting Part" is too hot with its grueling construction and dramatic development.

Next, let's take a look at the "full-fledged bullet-shooting part" that appears after the "escape adventure part" is completed.

As the story progresses, prisoners and executioners face a phase called the "Yurukiru Judgment. In this game, the prisoner and the executioner each board a Yurukiru Fighter fighter and engage in a shooting battle for the life or death of the prisoner and the truth of the case in a virtual space created by BR (Brain Reality), a cutting-edge technology developed by Yurukiru Inc. The story is set in a strange amusement park called "Yurkyland," where prisoners must fight through dangerous attractions, which is why the shooting battle in "Yurkyl Judgement" was created, and why the unique shooting genre blends into the adventure game without any sense of incongruity.

The shooting part of this game is a vertical scrolling style, which is relatively orthodox for a bullet-hell shooter.

If you are a skilled shooter, you may be excited just by the information that the game is a vertical shooter in a bullet-hell style. Some of you may be thinking, "But the game is mainly an adventure, and the shooting is just an extra mini-game, right? However, this perception will be shattered in a matter of seconds after you play the shooting part.

The relentless barrage of bullets from the zombie enemies, the tension and exhilaration of dodging and avoiding the slightest gap between bullets, and other aspects of the game that will make your hands sweat will make you feel like you are playing a "real" bullet-hell shooter. What is hidden is that the shooting part of this title was created by a veteran shooter who has worked on the "Senko no Ranbu" series and "Mamoru Kun wa Jukureta Shitte! The shooting part of this title is developed by "GREF," a long-established shooting company that has worked on the "Rinbu of Whirlwind" series and "Mamoru-kun wa Jyushita!

The basic controls of the part are movement, shots, and "outburst bombs" and "outburst shots," which act like bombs. The game is relatively orthodox for a shooter, with systems such as taking power-up items to enhance shots and equip options, and a system in which the movement speed of your ship is reduced and the behavior of options changes during a hold shot. Players who have played several well-known shooting games will probably be able to easily adapt to this system.

One of the unique features of this shooting game is the "outburst. By collecting the material generated by knocking down enemies and consuming the accumulated gauge, you can use "outburst shots" that damage enemies and cancel out their bullets, and "outburst bombs" that generate a blast around your ship to knock down enemies and prevent them from attacking. This is a reassuring system that can be used as a powerful attack to turn the tables, or as a defense against a critical situation surrounded by a barrage of bullets. Furthermore, if the Outburst Gauge is at 20% or more, the "Autobomb" will automatically fire to protect your ship even if it is touched by an enemy or a bullet. Since you can conserve your precious remaining airplanes, the basic strategy in the shooting part of the game is to always keep an eye on the remaining amount of your outburst gauge and collect the materials you need.

An indispensable part of shooting games is a powerful battle against a huge boss, and the shooting part of this title also has a challenging boss battle. The bosses are the executioners who are teamed up with the prisoners.
The Executioner unleashes a number of attacks that are far more intense than those of the plain enemies, and also deploys barriers such as the Kokoro Wall and Kokoro Funnel, which embody the barriers of the Executioner's mind. The tense boss battles against dynamic and formidable bosses are the main dish of the shooting part of the game.

The "Yurukiru Judgment," as Binko calls it, is an "interrogation under extreme conditions. The player's actions of violently hurling his or her overflowing thoughts and arguments at the prisoner overlap with the situation of "a violent and destructive attack unleashed by the boss," and the player's desire to "survive the false accusation" and "survive the boss battle through a barrage of bullets" are also combined. The synchronization of the player's desire to "survive the boss battle through a barrage of bullets" makes the boss battle a highly immersive and dramatic experience. This boss battle, which can truly be called an inevitable fusion of adventure and shooting, is a must-experience, and is my recommendation.

In the shooting part of the game, there are many other tricks to fuse adventure and shooting.

For example, the "high-speed quiz" that starts before the shooting game begins serves as a review of the adventure part, in which the contents of a prisoner's false accusation are organized in quiz format. The number of remaining planes changes depending on the number of correct answers. In addition, "Henken Synapse" and "Kokoro Maze," which are inserted during the shooting part of the game, are the solution phase of the puzzle solving, in which the player tries to get to the bottom of the case based on the evidence and information obtained in the adventure part. In addition to the above, conversation events between the prisoner and the executioner (and sometimes the bottle boy) are inserted at various times during the shooting part.

By combining the conversational events and quizzes in a bullet-hell shooting game, this title succeeds in creating a unique and one-of-a-kind game experience in which you can play a shooting game and an adventure game at the same time. This game has been given the genre name "false accusation escape adventure & bullet-hell shooting," but I felt that this new and fresh game experience should be given a completely new genre name that does not yet exist in this world. I even felt that this new and fresh game experience should be given a completely new genre name that does not yet exist.

The game also has a "Score Attack Mode," which allows players to play the shooting game portion of the game as many times as they like. In the main mode, prisoners and stages are fixed as the story progresses, but in this score attack mode, you can choose any prisoner you like and play any stage that has already been released. Each prisoner has a different aircraft performance, so you can enjoy the stages you have already played once with a new sensation.

In addition, two types of rankings are provided: "My Score Top 100," in which you can aim to update your own high score, and "Online Ranking," in which you can compete with other skilled shooters from all over the country. It is a nice point to be able to enjoy Score Attack, which is said to be the flower of shooting games, to the fullest in two forms: "battle against yourself" and "battle against the best". The game also offers an impressive array of different styles, including "Stage Score Attack," in which you can play any stage, "All-Play Score Attack," in which you can play through all released stages, and "Practice," in which you can play any stage you like at any difficulty level for practice. If you like shooting games, you may consider purchasing this game for the Score Attack mode.

Yurukiru" is packed with vivid experiences that can only be experienced through games.

So, that's my introduction of "Yurukiru: The False Conviction Game.

To be honest, when I heard that the game was a combination of an adventure and a shooting game, I was initially concerned that it might be an unbalanced work, with one of the two being outstandingly perfect and the other being halfway decent. However, when I actually played the game this time, I was completely surprised to find that I was wrong. There are things in this game that can only be expressed through a "fusion of adventure and shooting" and only through the medium of a game. I felt that this vivid experience should be enjoyed not only by those who love games, but also by those who do not usually play games.

Incidentally, a trial version of this title is also available, which allows you to play the entire first chapter of the game, a false accusation escape adventure and a bullet-hell shooting game.
