Berserk" will resume serialization starting with the June 24 issue of Young Animal #13! A double feature at once!

It has been announced that the serialization of "Berserk" will resume in the June 24, 2022 issue of Young Animal.

Message from the editorial department on Young Animal No. 12

Dear readers

We are pleased to announce that "Berserk" will resume.
We apologize for not being able to give you any information for a long time.

We have read as much as we could of your comments on the "Great Berserk Exhibition," "YA Memorial Issue (Issue 18, 2021)," "Berserk Volume 41," and so on. I am filled with gratitude for each and every one of them, as well as for your thoughts and feelings written on social networking services. I am deeply touched by how much everyone was influenced by and loved Berserk. I am sad that Kentaro Miura himself is not here to read them.

Before his death, Kentaro Miura told his best friend, manga artist Tsuneji Mori, about the stories and episodes of Berserk. He also told the studio staff and the editor in charge. It was not that he was leaving something unsaid, but it was a normal routine for a manga artist to draw something like this and wonder if everyone would be surprised, how about this character, or if this development would be interesting.
This daily routine lasted for more than a quarter of a century. We spent a long time with Mr. Miura, and his thoughts and feelings have accumulated in our minds and hearts. We also found the concept notes and character designs drawn by Mr. Miura.
We feel a strong sense of resistance to ending the story without communicating them to any of the fans.
We want them to read the last episode and the last frame of the story that we have brought to you now.

We, the production team, have decided on a basic stance for the resumption of the project.
Mr. Miura said so.
This is what the production team took to heart.
Since we did not have the name of the comic left, it was impossible for us to perfectly shape the manuscript that Mr. Miura was trying to create, but we composed the comic so that it would never deviate from what Mr. Miura had said. We sincerely hope to weave the "Kentaro Miura" that has taken root within us through conversations with Mr. Miura and the creation of the manuscript.
We believe that this production system is the way to convey the "Berserk" as envisioned by Mr. Miura to everyone as faithfully as possible, even if poorly.

Starting with the next issue, we will publish the first six episodes up to the end of the "Gensou Sekai Hen / Fairy Island Chapter". After that, we will start a new chapter.
After the resumption, the credit will be "Original by Kentaro Miura, Manga by Studio Ganga, Supervision by Tsuneji Mori," and the numbering of the book will also be transferred.

As an old story, the first volume of "Berserk" was published in 1990 with a first printing of 28,000 copies. It was not an immediate hit, and at the time it was a work known only to those in the know. The reason why the author was able to attract and retain a devoted fan base was that his desire to "draw even more amazing manga" was conveyed. I believe that the author's desire to draw more amazing manga was conveyed to his fans. The author's extraordinary efforts and a few lucky breaks led to a big hit. Today, the number of people who have read the first volume is 2 million worldwide. And I believe it has had a strong impact on the hearts of many fans. I am sure that Mr. Miura himself would be very happy to know that his thoughts and feelings are being utilized in everyone's life and work. I would be very happy if he could continue this kind of relationship with his work in the future with "Berserk".

Nearly 30 years ago, I was called by Miura to consult on a name. It was the usual thing, so I went to his office to have some fun, and Miura, looking more serious than usual, told me, "I have to do the erosion. I thought to myself, "That's a big deal," but I had no idea that I would be under house arrest for a week.... At that time, the story of "Berserk" was almost complete until the final episode.

To my horror, the story had progressed according to the synopsis completed at that time, with almost no changes since then. After that, I talked with Miura many times during each major episode. We had been drawing manga since we were students, consulting with each other in the same way.

As those with good intuition might have guessed, I know the story of "Berserk" up to the final episode. However, this does not mean that I can draw the manga because I know the story. I can draw the great work "Berserk" because I am the genius Kentaro Miura.
However, I have a great responsibility.

Before his death, Miura said, "I have not told the story until the last episode to anyone but Mori.
That is what he said. And it was true. It is too heavy a responsibility. Would it be better to have him do an interview and talk to the fans?
Or have them publish a text with illustrations...? But that would not convey the scenes that Miura told me, or the dialogue between Guts and Griffith....
Just when I was wondering what to do, I received a call.
The staff said they would finish the manuscript of the last issue of the book, and they wanted me to take a look at it."
The back few pages of that installment were not finished. Some of the characters were not included.
I looked at the manuscript, thinking to myself that it would be tough....
--The power of desperation can sometimes improve a person miraculously. There it was, the finished manuscript of "Berserk.
Mori Sensei, will you let us do it ourselves?"
Miura's proud disciples told him straight to me.
Miura and his mentor, Mr. Shimada, also said, "If you do it, the company will do its utmost to support you.
If I ran away at this point, Miura would say to me, "You didn't do it even though we talked about it a lot.
"We talked about this a lot, but you didn't do it!
I understand. I'll do it properly.

I have a promise to make to all of you. I will remember as many details as possible and tell you the story.
And I will only do the episodes that Miura told me. I will not flesh it out. I will not do episodes that I do not remember clearly. We will only do the dialogue and the story that Miura told himself. Naturally, it will not be perfect. However, we believe that we will be able to tell most of the story that Miura wanted to depict.
The skill of Miura's students is genuine!
They are wonderful drawers.
I know you may be dissatisfied with "Berserk" without Miura, but I hope you will keep an eye on it.
