Production of the theater version of "Mononokai" was decided. The following information has been announced.

Mononokai" aired as a TV series in July 2007, and became a topic of conversation for its innovative and unprecedented visuals, combining stylish character design and CG processing such as Japanese paper textures. The series has once again garnered attention, winning first place among all 70 works (as of 2020) in the NoitaminA 15th anniversary fan poll, and its official Twitter account, which was launched in May, has gained 100,000 followers in five days. On June 18 (Sat.), at the "Mononokai 15th Anniversary Celebration" event, the production of the theater version of "Mononokai" was announced.

The theater version will feature completely new episodes and is scheduled to be released in 2023. A special news release video featuring a newly drawn cut of the medicine seller and newly recorded voices, as well as comments from cast member Takahiro Sakurai and staff, have also arrived.

In addition, a crowdfunding campaign to support the theater version will begin on June 24 (Fri.), and a stage adaptation is also in the works. More information will be posted on the 15th anniversary site, the theater version teaser site, and the official Twitter feed.

The work has its roots in a piece of "Kai~ayakashi~" that aired on Noitamina in 2006.

When I saw the first film, "KANEKO," I felt a sense of intoxication and anxiety as if I were losing track of where I was. I thought it would be even more amazing if this world view could be expressed on a large, dense screen.
This is director Kenji Nakamura's first film in a long time, and it is also his starting point. After overcoming a number of difficulties, the project was finally realized. Please look forward to it.

In honor of the 15th anniversary of the anime, we have started a new visual project by 15 artists, which will be released nightly on the official anime Twitter from June 18 (Sat).

Crowdfunding to support the production of the theater version started at 20:00 on June 24. In Japan, it will be on "Ubugoe", and overseas on "Kickstarter".
Nine courses are available, ranging in price from 5,000 yen to 150,000 yen, including the right to view the theater version production report and a standby image.

＜Synopsis
As long as there is a human world, there will be monsters.
Since ancient times, when an ayakashi (a kind of monster) attaches itself to a person's passions or grudges, it becomes a mononokai and brings misfortune to the person.
The only sword in the world that can slay these monsters is the demon sword.
There is a medicine man who travels around the world using it to slay monsters. The medicine man continues his journey while saving people's hearts.
