Talking about the theme song of the movie "Yuru Can△" by Asaka & Eri Sasaki - to the story about the growth and reunion of Nadeshiko and her friends.

Speaking of the theme song for "Yuru Can△! On June 29, both songs were released as singles.
How did the two, who have been involved in the world of "Yuru Can△" for a long time, feel about the growth of Nadeshiko and Rin in the movie? And what are the contents of the new single, including the coupling songs? We connected Tokyo-based Asakika and Fukuoka-based Eri Sasaki online and had a full discussion with them!

Both the opening and ending songs were difficult to produce this time.

─ You both sang the opening theme song "Sun Is Coming Up" and the ending theme song "Mimosa" for the movie "Yuru Can△". How did you start working on the songs for each of them?

Asakika: "Sun Is Coming Up" started with the music staff and anime producers choosing the song. Ultimately, the melody of "Sun Is Coming Up" was chosen by Kento Nagatsuka and Akiko Tateyama. We leave the music and lyrics for "Yuru Can△" to everyone, so I think the most suitable song for this movie was chosen.

─ Mr. Kento Nagatsuka wrote the lyrics to "Shiny Days" and "Seize The Day" as well as the opening song for "Yuru Can△", and Mr. Tateyama is the composer of the accompaniment for "Yuru Can△". In the end, the songs were chosen by people with close ties to the work.

Asakika: While "Shiny Days" was the starting point, this time the song took a slightly different approach, so I was curious to see how fans would react to it. When I played the song along with the movie, I found it to be a perfect fit for the film, and I could feel the solid axis that although the Nadeshiko have grown up, there are still some things that haven't changed.

─ How did you start working on "Mimosa"?

Sasaki: This was a difficult project for me as well. I had made "Fuyuubiyori", "Haru no tonari", "Loch to Tabito" (from the game "Yuru Can△ Have a nice day!") and other songs for "Yuru Can△", so I thought, "Well, what should I do this time? I had a feeling of "Well, what should I do this time? To be honest, I felt like I had already put everything I had into it (laughs). So, at first, I tried to make a song with a bit more of a Western flavor, or one with a bit more of a hammering rhythm. I thought that since we had all grown up, it would be nice to have a stylish song with an adult feel. But I guess I went a different route.

─ So you wanted us to make a song that would follow the trend of "YuruCan△" and be a typical ending song for "YuruCan△"?

Sasaki: That's right. The chorus of "Mimosa" started out with a different melody. Then the response was, "It's a good melody, but the chorus is ......," so I changed the chorus to the finished version and finally got the OK. It took us several months to get to that point after we started making it (laughs). The circumstances surrounding this are discussed in detail in the making-of movie on the limited first edition DVD, so I would be happy if you could take a look at that.

─ So the making of the music video (MV) as well as the making of the song is also included in the movie?

Sasaki: Yes. You can also hear how the chorus was originally sung.

Asakika I would like to hear that chorus, too. Unlike Eri, we were asked to come up with a new approach to the opening theme that was different from the previous ones, so I was surprised to hear what you just said.

Sasaki: But "Sun Is Coming Up" certainly has a different taste from the previous songs, but I thought it had a sense of unity as a tune.

─ ─ I guess you are saying that the concept of the music required for the opening song, which shows how everyone has grown up, and the ending song, which is played after the audience has enjoyed seeing how well they get along just like in the TV series, are completely opposite.

Sasaki: Yes, I am sure that was the intention behind the order.
