Hello to all 10 million anime song fans in Japan. I am Hiroyuki Deguchi, a wandering bassist and DJ of anime songs and special effects music. It's been a month since a new anime series started airing, which means it's time for my overly subjective column, "Just shut up and listen to anime songs! This column is written by me, Deguchi, and is based on the anime that I watch each season.

In this column, I will select 10 songs based on my subjective and biased preferences by listening to all of the opening and ending songs of each new season's anime titles.

In short, this column is not about ranking the songs or the works, but about simply being satisfied by talking endlessly about "I love this song so much! It is a very peaceful column where I just talk endlessly about how much I love this song.

I hope that this column will help you to find new anime and new ani-songs.

Here are 10 songs from the 2022 summer anime! Have a listen to them! That's it!

I can't just say that, so I'll start with the explanations.

It may have been a while since we had seven ending songs, more than half of the total. I felt that there were many works that had a good balance between the afterglow after watching the anime and the quality of the music, which is the reason for the large number of ending songs. I had hoped for some energetic summer songs or ridiculously uplifting songs, but there were not so many this year, which is a bit sad. However, the songs had good melodies and lyrics that conveyed each word of the lyrics well, so I think the summer was more fulfilling than usual.

Isekai Pharmacy ED "White Rain/Little Black Dress

First of all, "Hakusame," the ending song for "Isekai Kyokyaku," conveys the outstanding quality of the music.

The calm mid-tempo is comfortable and the melody is wonderfully good. Although the song lacks the flamboyance (or understandability) of recent songs, once you hear it, you cannot get it out of your ears because the melody, lyrics, and music all combine to create a dense song. The chord progressions and mellotron-like tone phrases are reminiscent of the Beatles' classic songs and have a moderate nostalgic feel, creating an elusive and mysterious scene that is new yet somehow nostalgic.

Analytically listening to the overall sound, it seems that almost all parts, including the string part that is the center of the arrangement, are composed by hammering in the sound characteristics. It is interesting to note that this mechanical hammering brings out the human power and rawness of the vocals.

The development after the second verse, which is not used in the ending of the main anime, is amazing, and I highly recommend listening to the full chorus. It's all the cool development.

Kanojo, Oyasama 2nd season ED "I can't say feat. asmi/MIMiNARI

A transparent and refreshing summery song. Anime songs that feel like summer often express the summery atmosphere by being energetic and high-tension, but the key point of this song is that it does not force the audience to be energetic or extremely high-tension. The arrangement has a lot of notes and fills in the gaps, but the song does not become too hot and bothered, which is due to the natural sense of tension.

The reason for this is vocalist asmi's voice. Although she sings clearly with a strong presence, her voice has an airy quality that is comparable to a whisper voice, so you feel as if you are singing right next to her.

The calm distance that allows us to converse in our normal voices seems to bring summer scenes to mind.

Recently hired maid is suspicious ED "The two of us in the secret garden/Yui Horie

An anime song with a band sound in which the strings play the leading role in the music. Because this is a royal arrangement that we hear so often these days, we can see how the presence of the vocalist determines the color of the song.

Yui Horie's vocals never fail to impress me at all, no matter when I hear them. It is undiminished in any way, and her voice seems younger in age than that of younger voice actors. The point where the vocal precedes the melody in the break before the chorus and the melody descends is a dramatic development where the running up phrase of strings crosses over as if chasing the vocal coming down from the highest note of the song. The emotion of this momentary break leads to the explosive power of the chorus when it enters the chorus.
