The new anime "Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch of Mercury," which will start in October 2022. Its prequel "PROLOGUE" will be distributed on the web from September 4 (Sun.). Akiba Research Institute reviews the latest Gundam plastic models of the mobile suits that play an active role in the anime!

The new anime that will start in 2022 is expected to be one of the most exciting in recent years, with a large number of high-profile works and highly anticipated sequels, but among them, "Mobile Suit Gundam: Witch of Mercury" has the aura of a major work.

This is the first new TV series in five years since "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphens." It is the first in the series to feature a female protagonist, is set in a school, and has a tie-up with PARCO, among many other topics that have anime fans buzzing even before it begins broadcasting.

In a first for the "Gundam series," the prequel "PROLOGUE" was screened at the event before the main TV series began. The realistic science fiction depiction, serious story, and hand-drawn mechanics that rival those of the theatrical anime have been a real surprise to viewers.

Webcasting of "PROLOGUE" started on September 4 (Sun.)!

It is inevitable that "Witches of Mercury" will become more and more popular toward the start of TV broadcasting.

With the TV broadcast of "Witch of Mercury" about to begin, the fever for "Witch of Mercury" is sure to grow even more intense!

This time, we will introduce the enemy Mobile Suit "Begilbeu," which is in a fierce battle with the main character "Gundam Lubris" in "PROLOGUE" and destroys Ox-Arce Corporation's Gundam Lubris mass production prototype one after another.

HG 1/144 Begilbeu

This is the latest high-performance MS developed by Grassley Defense Systems, one of the world's leading heavy engineering manufacturers.

It can be said that this machine was destined to become a rival machine from birth, having been created with the goal of eradicating the "Gundam" that employs the revolutionary "GUND format" technology.

In the movie, the "Antidote," an attack that nullifies the "GUND Format," gives the Begilbeu the strength of a demigod, but how will the plastic model turn out?

First, check out the box!

The elegant white package is the basic format of the "Witch of Mercury" series. The main body of Begilbeu and the remote control terminal "Non-kinetic pod" are depicted prominently.

The instruction manual is also based on a white color scheme, but with a colorful finish. It is a very easy-to-understand instruction manual.

Here is the runner. The light purple color is impressive. There are many clear parts.

So, I assembled it straight away!

It took about an hour to complete. Although it is poly-capless and consists of only plastic parts, the joints are well made and do not seem to wear out easily.

Most of the joints are either molded or covered with parts to hide them. Even when assembled as-is, the result is very nice!

The design features a lot of curves. On its back, it carries a backpack with a flight unit designed for operation in space. A non-kinetic pod is mounted on a wing-shaped part.

A point unique to Begilbeu is the clear parts.

By attaching foil stickers to the inside of the clear parts, light is reflected, creating the effect of the sensors emitting light.

Now let's check out the movable parts!

The face can swing up and down significantly, and the left and right rolls are excellent.

The arms can be raised over 90 degrees by bouncing the shoulder parts up.

The elbows are single axis, but can be bent quite deeply.

The upper body can be bent at the connection between the chest and waist.

It can also be twisted sideways.

Legs can swing back and forth between the groin and the base of the legs. The legs have two movable parts: the base of the legs and the thighs can roll. The combination of these movable parts allows for flexible posing.

The legs can be opened more than 180 degrees on both sides! The body is like a super soft person.

The bending of the knees is also quite excellent.

Toes and heels are movable. The claw-like shape is very useful in combat.

The wing-like parts of the backpack can be opened and closed. The unit seems to deploy during forced cooling.

Reproduce unique actions in combination with special weapons!

Let's take a look at the armament from here.

First is the "bayonet," a portable weapon for use against MS, which is equipped on both arms. It is a unique weapon that combines a beam gun unit and a stereo sword in one set.

The parts are assembled so as to wrap both wrists. They are firmly fixed in place.

This is the image of a strong attack.

Combined with the claw of the foot unit, it can be used in combat.

Next is the "non-kinetic pod.

It is a wired remote-control terminal that locks on to the target to initiate follow-up maneuvers. It launches an attack called "Anti-Dote" that interferes with the "Gund Format Link.

So, a lead wire is included. Cut it at an appropriate length and attach the connecting parts.

Combined with the stand, I tried to reproduce the activity in the play.

Note that the package of "HG 1/144 Begilbeu" comes with only one set of stand for "Non-kinetic pod". If you want to deploy two pods or float the Begilbeu, you need to prepare a separate stand.

In the movie, the Gundam Lubris mass production prototype model was impressive as it was slaughtered one after another.

The words "fluttering like a butterfly and stinging like a bee" are a perfect description of Begilbeu's image.

This model reproduces the confrontation with Gundam Lubliss!

The figure can be posed in any way you like, thanks in part to its excellent mobility. Please try to find the best pose and angle!

So, we have reviewed the "HG 1/144 Gundam Lubris" and "HG 1/144 Begilu Beu".

While the assembly itself is very easy, each of these kits has its own unique gimmick that makes them very playful and fun to play with.

It seems that we will be able to keep an eye on the "Witch of Mercury" series of Gundam plastic models in the future!
