Exo Primal" Trial Report! Survive in a future Earth where dinosaurs roam around, wearing a suit with various functions! Tokyo Game Show 2022 Special Edition

Tokyo Game Show 2022, the world's largest game trade show, is being held from September 15 to 18, 2022.

The Tokyo Game Show 2022 is being held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture from September 15 to 18, 2022. This is the first time in three years that the show has been held there since the venue went online due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection. Various game makers, large and small, exhibited their products, and the show was bustling with activity from the first day.

In this article, we will report on a play report of "Exo Primal," which we were able to try out at the Capcom booth.

Exo Primal" is a completely new title that is touted as a "team-based massive action game.

The year is 2040. The setting is the Earth, where a "dinosaur disaster," a phenomenon in which a herd of dinosaurs suddenly appears, causes extensive damage throughout the world, and the human race is on the verge of extinction. Players will wear the "Exosuit," a reinforced exoskeleton developed by the human race, and protect people from the dinosaurs as "Exofighter.

In this trial, we were able to play "Training," in which we could try out the basic movements of the game, and "Dino Survival," in which we were divided into two teams and competed with each other to see how fast we could accomplish our missions.

In the first training mode, which we were able to play, we tried out all five types of exosuits that were available. Exosuits can be broadly classified into three types: assault, tank, and support.

There are three types of assault suits: "Deadeye," "Zephyr," and "Barrage. The Deadeye is a mid- to long-range type that uses guns. The Zephyr is a speedy type that specializes in fighting, and the Barrage is a firepower type that disperses grenades and fights with explosions and flame effects.

The "Roadblock" suit was provided for the tank and the "Witch Doctor" suit for support. The "Roadblock" is a decoy role, wearing a heavy suit with excellent durability and using a huge shield to protect his friends from enemies. The Witch Doctor is a logistical support type that heals you and your allies and can also enhance their performance.

In this game, the division of roles between assault, tank, and support is important, and teamwork is essential to winning a battle. An assault alone cannot defend or heal, a tank alone has low firepower, and a support alone cannot fight well. The basic idea seems to be to incorporate a good balance of each exosuit through training.

Personally, I found assaults to be just fine for playing it safe. Tanks and supports are the lifelines that protect the team, so they must be carefully maneuvered to avoid dying as much as possible. However, with assault, all you have to do is attack the enemy, and even if you fall, the tank and support will help you, making it easy to regain your footing even if you are in a pinch.

Just as important as the Exosuit is the Dominator. This is a type of special equipment called a "rig" that is given to the player by the Leviathan, an AI that guides the player. The two dinosaurs we were able to use this time were a Tyrannosaurus and a Triceratops.

Both have special moves, such as body slams and bites, that can blow up the opponent hit by them. Their attack power is also high enough to take out all enemies except those wearing tank-like exosuits in a matter of seconds.

However, there is a limit to the use of the Dominator. If the dinosaur's health or time limit reaches zero, it is forced to leave the game on the spot; a long press of the Y button (Xbox compliant) can be used to release the call at any time.

Once the training is complete, the players are challenged to a Dino Survival with a pre-determined group of members.

In Dino Survival, players are divided into two teams of five players each and follow the instructions of the AI, Leviathan, to defeat dinosaurs. The side that reaches the goal faster than its opponent wins.

I chose to play as Deadeye, one of the assault types, thinking that someone else would take care of the tanks and support, but the team consisted of four assaults and one support. I went with the flow of the game, but this was a bad idea.

The small dinosaurs called "Raptors" came rushing in, and all the members were instantly swallowed up by the wave. With their friends scattered about, they were unable to defeat the enemy as they wished, and from the early stages of the game, the opposing team was rapidly pulling away from them. Incidentally, there are several types of small dinosaurs, including the "Gas Neo-Saw," which self-destructs when approached, and the "Sniper Neo-Saw," which aims and shoots at you from a distance.

The author became a roadblock and took on the role of tank, but it was difficult to make up the difference that had been made in the first round. For a while, we had to chase after the enemy team that was ahead of us.

After a series of destruction missions, followed by a VTOL defense mission, the team was finally presented with a data key escort. The objective was to carry the square-shaped data key to its destination.

We thought it would end like this, but we encountered the enemy team on a street near our destination. It seemed that both teams had the same destination, and from this point on, the game became an all-out war against each other. Since there were almost no dinosaurs, we switched from Roadblock as a shield to Deadeye again and attacked the enemies in front of us from one side to the other. I thought that if I was going to lose anyway, I might as well do it in a spectacular way, but it seemed that we were the ones pushing in direct combat, and the gap that had opened up between us was closing in on us.

After the other team summoned a Triceratops, we were once again outnumbered, and in the end, the author's team lost. Nevertheless, the fast-paced Dino Survival was exciting from start to finish, packed with a variety of missions, such as cleaning up hordes of dinosaurs, escorting targets, and fighting against the enemy team.

The number of suits and dinosaurs will probably increase in the full version of the game.

The key to victory will be how well you can use them.
