A must-have item for Gunpla production! Review of "Bitblade (Triangular Blade)"--This revives molds! From line carving to figure modeling, this tool can handle it all! The Tool Way! Part 6

Hello, this is Karyas! This is the sixth installment of "The Tool Way! In this 6th issue of "The Tool Way!", we would like to introduce the "Bit Blade (Triangular Blade)", now on sale from God Hand!

Bit Blade (Triangular Sword)
Official price: 2,970 yen (tax included)
Manufacturer: God Hand

The "Bitblade" series is now on sale from God Hand, which continues to develop and sell numerous high-quality modeling tools. Did you know that following the round and flat blade sets, a set of four triangular blades is now on sale?

What is Bitblade?

The "Bitblade" series is a precision plastic engraving tool that can be attached to a pin vice, etc., and can be used for engraving lines, modifying kits, and even cutting figures. The triangular blade introduced here can carve grooves of the same depth by pushing and carving at a fixed angle.

The same bit blade series also includes flat-blade and round-blade sets, so if you purchase these sets as well, you will be able to perform a wider variety of cutting and modeling!

Key Points

1. 4 types of blades are included in the set for convenience!

The set comes with four types of blades: 5°, 20°, 45°, and 90°, so it can be used in a variety of situations. It is very convenient to use the 90° blade when you want to carve with guts, and the 5° blade when you want to revive a thin mold that was mistakenly buried.

A dedicated case is included for easy carrying.

It is nice that the angle is printed on the shaft part!

2. 3mm shaft diameter makes it easy to attach!

All pin vises compatible with 3mm can be mounted, but the "Power Pin Vice" currently on sale from God Hand is compatible with shaft diameters from 0.1mm to 3.2mm, so if you have one of these, you can mount various tools such as spin blades and drill blades, not to mention the bit blade series. It is very convenient, so we recommend it. It is very convenient and highly recommended.

This time, I attached it to a large pin vise that I had on hand. You can hold the shaft directly without attaching it to the pin vise, but if you want to stabilize your hand and work for a long time, a pin vise is still essential.

How to use

Move the pin vice from the front to the back at a shallow angle. If you use too much force or too deep an angle, you will not be able to carve well and may damage the blade.

Also, avoid putting your fingers on the edge of the blade, and always put safety first!

Actual use

Using the plastic plate and the kit, we checked the comfort of using each!

The sharpest 5°.

I was able to carve fine, clean lines. It is easy to fill in mistakes, so it will be useful when you want to make a new mold by yourself!

The 20° carving is well-balanced.

It can carve a little thicker than 5°, so it can be used for re-carving various molds, or you can lightly carve with 5° and then use it on top of the mold!

The 45° angle can be used to carve with guts.

It is perfect for re-carving thick molds that cannot be handled with 5° or 20°. If you are confident, you may want to make your own thick molds with 45°.

The thickest 90°.

It is possible to carve deeper molds, or shallower ones by adjusting the angle and the degree of force.

As a test, I recarved the wrinkles on the clothes of a 1/35 figure, and it looked just right!

Application - Mold Recovery

Now, I would like to introduce an application technique that utilizes tools other than the triangular knife. This time,

When I was deep carving a mold of an old kit, I accidentally spilled some glue on it and left it unnoticed. The mold that I worked so hard to carve is now filled in, and I want to recover it!

I want to recover!

I intentionally applied a dab of plastic modeling adhesive and left it there. After leaving it overnight, the mold was filled and it became ticklish. ......

But, I'm a big fan! Don't panic, first make a cut with a design knife. Slowly follow the original mold.

This is where the bit blade triangular knife comes in! I re-carved at 20° this time to match the depth and width of the original mold. It is like extending the cut made earlier with the design knife.

Once the mold is restored, file away the adhesive that has adhered to the surrounding area and clean it up. I recommend God Hand's sponge file "Kami Yasu!" which cuts freely and follows curved surfaces well. (#120 to #240 to #400). Polish the surface in the following order: #120, #240, #400, #600.

It is OK when the roughness and unevenness of the surface are gone. Use a toothbrush to clean up the plastic powder that has accumulated in the mold.

Somehow, the mold has been restored to its original state! By combining various tools, such mistakes can be recovered, so don't panic.

So, how was it?

There are no rules on how to use bit blades. You can use it for other ways of expressing damage, for example. It would be interesting to find your own unique way of using bitblades.

See you soon!
