The essential item for photographing Gundam plastic models! Review of "Awesome! Review of "LED Photography Studio for Hobby" - You can easily secure a photography booth at home! The Tool Way! No.7]
Hello, this is Karyas! This is the 7th issue of The Tool Way! In this 7th issue of The Tool Way, we would like to introduce you to the "Awesome! LED Photography Studio for Hobby (Premium)" from Doyusha!
How do you photograph your finished works? Do you take pictures on your work table? Or, do you never take pictures? Well, that would be a waste. If you've gone to the trouble of creating a good work of art, let's give it a cool photo shoot in a dedicated booth!
So this time, we will compare and review three types of simple photo booths from Doyusha that anyone can use right away!
Doyusha's "Awesome! brand has come out with an assembled photography studio. Three sizes are available: S, M, and L.
S size: 242 x 270 x 30 mm 2,728 yen (tax included)
Size M: 300 x 325 x 300 mm 5,478 yen (tax included)
L size: 400 x 420 x 400 mm 7,128 yen (including tax)
The sizes are as follows. Incidentally, only the S size is also available in a basic version (same size, 1,628 yen including tax) that does not come with a power switch, so if you are interested, please check that out as well.
All sizes come with a convenient storage bag. You can carry it easily, so you can take pictures anytime, anywhere!
*S size comes with a white bag.
An instruction manual is included for your peace of mind!
Actually, I tried assembling it. This is the S size, and once you get used to it, assembly can be completed in one minute!
Simple and easy to use USB powered controller with 10 levels of light intensity adjustment!
The LED light illuminates the inside of the box evenly. The M and L sizes also come with a convenient skylight for shooting from above!
This is what it looks like when photographed from above! (This is a shot taken with the L size)
Brightness adjustment is also easy; the light intensity is conveniently memorized even when the power is turned off, as long as the USB power is being supplied!
Five backsheets are included!
The backsheets can be replaced by simply hooking them on the hooks. Here are a few shooting examples!
Shooting with a blue background. It creates an image of the sky or the sea, or a calm atmosphere. It is perfect for shooting flight scenes and underwater mechas.
A red background can produce flames, a sunset, or a powerful atmosphere. Try shooting with different backsheets depending on the atmosphere and concept of your work!
Check out the sizes.
To check the sizes of S, M, and L, we verified them using multiple sizes of Gunpla and prize figures. Let's start with the S size.
The "HG1/144 Gundam Aerial" (height: approx. 15 cm) can be photographed without any problem.
The BB Warrior "Knight Gundam" (height: approx. 10cm), which is smaller than the HG, of course, also has no problem.
The "MG1/100 Holy Gundam" (height: approx. 24 cm) just barely fits, but it is quite cramped. It is not possible to pose it freely.
Bless this wonderful world! Megumin prize figure (height: approx. 23 cm) just barely fits in, but the staff sticks out. This means I can't take a picture with it.
Result: Size S is suitable for slim HG, SD, mini-size figures and Shokugan.
Next, we will examine the M and L sizes.
I put "Holy Gundam" in the M size, and there is quite a bit of room. With this, you can take pictures in various poses!
Incidentally, when photographed neatly, the white body of the aircraft looks good against a black background!
The "HG Aerial" could be photographed with no problem with the S size, but with the M size, there is more room, so I was able to photograph it at a dynamic angle, looking up from a little lower down.
I tried to take a clean shot. A non-black background would also look good!
Since I was in the mood, I also took a quick shot of the "Knight Gundam. The silver paint also looks good on a black background!
Next is "Megumi", who could not fit in the size S bag, but fit in the size M bag without a hitch! But I would like to have a little more room if possible. ......
This time, I put it in the L size, which has a lot of room. This would make it easy to rotate it around and take pictures from various angles!
Here is a clean shot. The red and black outfits look great against the white backdrop!
Result: M and L can be used for larger kits and figures.
What size do you recommend?
As I said, big is as good as small, so if you buy just one, I recommend the L size. If you only want to make mini-size items, the S size may be fine, but if you want to make a variety of items from now on, you should buy the L size to have enough room!
With the L size, it is easy to display using a stand like this, or to take pictures of multiple kits side by side. If you want to try your hand at photographing dioramas and battle scenes, by all means, buy the L size!
So, how was it? A simple photography studio can be assembled only when you want to shoot, so there is no problem even if you have a small room!
Moreover, if you bring it to a friend's house, you can build a plastic model together and take beautiful photos right then and there! If you don't have one yet, think about using it. If you don't have one yet, why don't you take this opportunity to buy one?
See you again soon!
