Shrines in Akihabara

Kanda Myojin (Kanda Shrine)

Kanda Myojin is a historic shrine that was relocated to its current location about 400 years ago, about an 8-minute walk from Akihabara Station and 6 minutes from Ochanomizu Station. The shrine is also the setting for "Love Live! and collaborative events with "Steins;Gate," "SAO," and "Is Your Order a Rabbit?" are held at the shrine, and collaborative goods such as good luck charms and ema (votive picture tablet) are given away.

The three deities enshrined at the shrine are "Daikoku-sama" (god of marriage), "Ebisu-sama" (god of prosperity), and "Masakado-sama" (god of protection from disaster and misfortune). The shrine has been featured in magazines and other publications as one of the most powerful power spots in the city, and is known for its spiritual power.

The souvenir shop on the grounds of the shrine offers anime goods made in collaboration with the shrine, so if you are having trouble choosing a "Akihabara souvenir," it would be fun to take a look.

There is also a monument to Heiji Zenigata, which can be said to be the oldest (perhaps) sacred place in Japan, as well as a monument to "Love Live! There are many places to see, such as the monument to Heiji Zenigata, which is probably the oldest (and most sacred) in Japan, and Myojin Otoko Hill, where the members of μ's ran up in the "Love Live!

Yanagimori Shrine

Yanagimori Shrine is located in Kanda-Sudacho, and its deity is Ukanomitama-no-mikoto (Great Goddess of Kurainatama). It was built by Ota Dokan, who invited the Fushimi Inari-taisha shrine in Kyoto as a protection against the demon's gate of Edo Castle. Although it was half burned down by arson twice in the past, it was rebuilt in 1986 and remains to this day.

It is probably best known to Akibans for its appearance in the anime game "Steins;Gate" as the family home of "Ruka Urushibara," a.k.a. Lucako, lab member number 006.

Since it is an Inari shrine, a fox is normally enshrined here, but for some reason, a raccoon dog is enshrined at the Fukujusha Shrine, which is said to have been enshrined by "Katsura Shoin," the mother of Tsunayoshi Tokugawa, in the Edo Castle. The raccoon dog is said to have been enshrined in the Edo Castle by "Katsura Shoin," the mother of Tokugawa Tsunayoshi. Katsura Shoin was the daughter of a grocer who became the mother of a shogun, and even after her death, she was revered by the women in the inner palace. The word "raccoon dog" is believed to mean "to get rid of others," and the deity is still revered today as a goddess of luck in examinations and competition.

The tanuki are also enshrined in the shrine grounds, and the group of force stones used in sumo tournaments during the Edo period are a sight to behold.

The red seal is self-service, so please put the red seal fee into the money-offering box and stamp the seal yourself.

If you are not familiar with Akihabara, we recommend that you take the route from JR Akihabara Station across the Manyobashi or Izumi Bridge.

If you are going on a pilgrimage to the "Steins;Gate" sanctuary, you should not miss the pedestrian-only "Kanda Fureai Bridge," which is described several times in the film.

You will need to enter a somewhat confusing area under the viaduct, so please refer to Google Map to find your way there.

Hanabusa Inari Shrine

Hanabusa Inari Shrine is a hidden shrine in Akihabara that few people, even Akiba connoisseurs, know about. According to tradition, the shrine is said to be beneficial for "coughs," but details are unknown as few people know of the shrine's existence.
The shrine is located on a back street surrounded by buildings in Akihabara, and it is said that few people know of its existence, even those who are familiar with Akihabara.

It is recommended to visit Hanabusa Inari Shrine from the Chuo-dori side.
Enter the path between Liberty Akihabara No. 5 and Akiba Dentistry.

You will see it on the right side, a little before "GLANSIT" in the picture below.

It is very rare to see a shrine that sits buried in a valley of buildings, and there was talk of demolition in recent years. There is a possibility that it may disappear in the future, so if you ever visit Akihabara, please visit the shrine.
