Plastic Model Review] The Birth of Aoshima's First Ideon in 40 Years! In-depth review of the plastic kit "1/450 Densetsu Kyojin Ideon"!

When you are a working adult, you tend to have a lot of plastic models piled up in your busy life. ...... In this series, Yasuyuki Tai, a voice actor who loves robots and plastic models, takes on the challenge of building plastic models on your behalf!

The concept is "even busy working people can make it this far on their weekends off. There are only two rules: bare bones assembly and a production period of one to two days! If you read this series, you will surely find the plastic model you want to build.

So, "Weekend Plastic Model Making by Voice Actor Taiyuki! Let's get started with the 65th issue!

Weekend Plastic Model Kit of the voice actor Yasuyuki Tai! Vol.65 1/450 Densetsu Kyojin Ideon

Director Yoshiyuki Tomino's legendary anime "Densetsu Kyojin Ideon" began airing on TV in 1980. At that time, Aoshima Bunka Kyozai Co. released many kits in various scales, and now, 40 years later, the company has released a new kit.

The "Ideon," the hero mecha of this work, is a mysterious being carrying the infinite power of "Ide," a legacy left behind by the 6th civilization, an alien race. Young earthlings aboard the Solo Ship, a spaceship excavated from the same ruins, are chased by the Buff Clan, an alien race that fears the power of the Ideon, and run away through space.

What was the technology of the Sixth Civilization? In fact, Ideon is a character with deep pockets that can accept a wide variety of arrangements, projecting the various technologies of the Sixth Civilization as people envision them.

I feel that this "1/450 Legendary Giant God Ideon" is one such proposal.

First of all, the size of this package is very large, and the illustration is wonderful. When I saw the package in the store, I couldn't help but think, "Wow! It's huge! I'm sure you'll exclaim "Wow!

Many of the parts are also large in size, and there are no difficult assembly processes, so you can proceed with your work smoothly.

Ideon enthusiasts will be able to easily guess which parts belong to which parts, even with the runners in place.

Despite the high level of detail, the division of parts is designed not to be that detailed.

Here is the completed Ideon! The legs seemed to be slightly longer and larger than the balance of the human body, perhaps to create a sense of enormity as seen from below.

The color separation can be reproduced without stickers or painting, just assembling it straight. Moreover, no glue is required. Poly parts are used for the joints, making them easy to move. If this much color separation has been achieved, you can save yourself the trouble of painting, and spend that time on weathering, smearing, etc., to create a finished product that reflects your individuality!

The upper arms are covered with crawler tracks, but the Ideon is an action-oriented kit that omits the separation and deformation of the upper arms. However, with this detail, one can only imagine what it would look like if it were to separate into its various mechanical parts.

The shoulder shape, which is the characteristic silhouette of the Ideon, has been arranged in detail, but the shape of the head and chest are truly "Ideon"! Clear parts are used for each part.

Even the back parts, which have a simple shape, have been arranged with details. The elbow joints also have mechanical details.

The upper surface of the chest is the windshield part of the B-mech, so many clear parts have been placed.

The slits on the sides also have details arranged in a way that does not destroy the image.

The marks of ides on each part are, of course, clear parts. The fists are interchangeable between "flat hand" and "clenched hand" type.

The backs of the knees also have mechanical details as well as the elbow joints. It would be nice to paint this area in detail to further enhance the mech-like appearance.

The design of the legs has been drastically rearranged. The gray areas on the shins and the inner sides of the legs were not included in the anime version, but the Aoshima Online Shop Limited Edition included bonus runners to bring the color scheme closer to the anime version. The white protrusions on the knees are also small parts, but they are the most eye-catching points of this arrangement. The axe-like shaped parts on the toes are also a feature of the Ideon. It was used in the scene when kicking off the Buff Clan's heavy-mobility mecha and when lifting the Wave Motion Gun from the solo ship.

The knees have duct-like details not only at the joints but also on both sides.

The trapezoidal details on the outside of the legs are missile launchers. The calf line and other parts are shaped to emphasize the image from the anime. Next, let's take a look at the range of motion.

The head is connected with ball joints, and as you can see, it is freely movable.

The blocked part of the shoulder can be lifted upward to avoid the movement of the two arms.

Although the design inevitably limits the movability to lift the arms horizontally, they can still be lifted up to this level. The rotating movement allows 360° rotation around the body.

A forward swing joint is also included at the base of the shoulder on the body side. The shoulder joints are ball-jointed, so some swinging is possible here as well.

The body also has a joint, which allows for forward and backward flexion and extension under the chest. Twisting at the waist axis connection is also possible.

The block on the back is movable so that it does not become a hindrance when the torso is bent backward.

The elbows are double-jointed and can bend forward more than 90°, with a slight structural bend to the rear. Roll rotation is also possible under the upper arm.

The wrists have ball joint connections so they can rotate and snap.

The hip joints can only open so far. It is probably about the average person's leg spread.

This is about the extent of the back and forth movement of the thigh and hip connections. ......

By sliding the block at the waist down: ......

As you can see, the legs can be lifted back and forth significantly.

Roll rotation is also possible on the thighs.

The knee joint is double-jointed and can be bent quite deeply.

Ankles are movable with a combination of axial movement.

The Glenn Cannon can be deployed by rotating the ideamark without disassembling it, although the manual instructs you to remove the parts once and flip it around.

Let's try some poses.

The giant god lying down rises!

The Ideon has an overwhelmingly gigantic appearance.

A Gigantic God raising his fist high into the sky.

A Gigantic God punching.

If you remove the cover below the waist, you will find a joint hole that can be connected to a stand (sold separately). This time, I tried posing the figure with a stand I had on hand.

The OP video from the anime and other videos have sometimes made her look good, but it is precisely because this is an action-oriented kit that such poses are possible.

Heavy-motion mecha were often kicked off like this.

Despite its design, which seems to have a lot of restrictions on mobility, it can be posed in a fun way.

Various weapons are also included. The Ideon Sword has a milky-white clear sword part that fits over the fist.

The sword is made of clear milky-white parts that are placed over the fist.

The sword extends to the left and right, and the back of the paper in the photo space is long enough to easily pop out of the paper.

The sight of it held directly above you is both divine and terrifying.

It is a terrifying weapon that can cut anything (even a small planet) in half.

A wave-guided gun is also included. The Ideon itself is large, so this figure is also quite large, but the parts are not too finely divided, so it can be assembled in a short period of time.

Is it a target sight? Clear parts are also used.

The muzzle is also detailed as you can see.

The back side of the gun is also detailed. The bottom panel can be removed to reveal a joint to connect the included pedestal.

Thruster part can be reproduced by replacing the parts from the stowed state ......

The deployment state can also be reproduced.

The wave guide gun by itself looks like a spaceship.

Now let's connect the wave guide gun to the attached pedestal and put it on the Ideon.

On the Ideon's side, replace the abdomen part with the one for connecting the energy tube. Both wrists should also be replaced with weapon handles.

Put the wave guiding gun on the wrist, connect the energy tube to the ideon, and you are done! Both the Ideon and the wave guiding gun are large, so they are quite powerful.

After all, huge mecha are even more powerful when seen in a frame.

The Buff Clan would not be happy to have a muzzle like this pointed at them! And speaking of the Ideon's armament, one cannot forget the missiles throughout its body! First, replace the missile hatches on each part with parts with the hatches open.

Then, attach the milky white molded missile and its trajectory bundle parts.

Then, let her take that pose. ......

The pose of firing all missiles is ready to be reproduced! Even if you have never seen the full-length anime, you may have seen this pose of Ideon. It is such a memorable pose, and this kit reproduces it by including missile parts. However, since it is a very delicate part, please be careful when removing it.

The pose of firing all the missiles can actually be enjoyed from various angles as well as the overall image, so be sure to try it out.

You can also recreate the scene where she intercepts the enemy while holding the wave guided gun. The scene is so powerful that you will have even more trouble finding a place to display it.

In addition, three types of visor parts are included. A clear green visor is also included as a bonus part in the same mold, so you can also enjoy the Ideon with a green visor.

Visor parts can be replaced by removing the face parts. Combine them according to your favorite scene.

In addition! A "jong" is also included as an extra this time! This is also very small, but it is well sculpted. The legs are also very thin, so be careful when handling them.

Comparison of Ideon and Jong. Is Jong smaller or is Ideon bigger?

For the sake of comparison, this is a comparison with the 1/810 Ideon (left), which was released by Aoshima Bunka Kyozai-sha at the time the anime aired. The old kit is fully painted. Even at that time, there were several Ideons in the lineup, including a kit that reproduced not only this one, but also the separation and deformation.

Incidentally, the "1/810 Ideon" was displayed at the "Yoshiyuki Tomino's World Exhibition" in Aomori. We also had several other finished mecha on display, but I wonder if any of our readers had a chance to see them.

A little extra work to recreate the immediate aftermath of the excavation!

Now, here comes the usual "extra effort," and when it comes to Ideon, the word "excavation" is always associated with it. So, this time too, we will try to easily express dirt and sand.

This time, I sprayed the entire body with Kreos matte topcoat spray, and then applied foundation. The matte finish makes the surface rougher than the plastic, which makes it easier to apply the weathering. Since the Ideon is huge and the kit itself is huge, I made it as dirty as I could.

Although it is easy to apply weathering with foundation, the drawback is that the colors become monotonous. Once you get used to it, it is recommended to try various weathering items available from various hobby manufacturers.

Once you get used to it, I recommend experimenting with various weathering items available from various hobby manufacturers. It is also possible to experience weathering to the point where you may think, "Maybe I overdid it a bit. In this Ideon, the weathering seems to be alive in a way that the arranged details are also emphasized.

Again, I was conscious of weathering so that the dirt would ride on every edge. Even if a little chunk of foundation is buried in the detail, I decided to allow some because it was "unearthed".

The edges of the axe-like parts of the toes could have been drybrushed with silver.

The ankle parts have less detail than the rest of the body, so I balanced it out by applying more weathering. I could have done a little more here.

The wave guiding gun was also weathered as well as the Ideon.

Since it was often used in space, it would have been nice to give it a different weathering.

Anyway, this kit is well color-coded, so you can spend more time on the next stage of modification without painting. In fact, some people may not be able to do extensive painting due to their living environment. It is precisely such people who should try the next step of "putting in the work," which is to go beyond painting.

There was a time when I thought that kits made by long-established model manufacturers were difficult to build, but this Ideon is definitely an easy kit to build.

Aoshima Bunka Kyozai is energetic in producing various character kits such as Gunbuster, Patlabor, Macross, and Ideon. What kits will they surprise us with next?

We look forward to seeing more kits from them in the future!
