The latest plastic model "MODEROID ZABUNGLE" is now available! We thoroughly review the appeal of the model, from the carefully designed mechanism that allows the model to combine with other models, to examples of easy weathering work! (Part 2)

When you are a working adult, you tend to have a lot of plastic models piled up in your busy life. ...... In this series, Yasuyuki Tai, a voice actor who loves robots and plastic models, takes on the challenge of building plastic models on your behalf!

The concept is "even busy working people can make it this far on their weekends off. There are only two rules: bare bones assembly and one or two days of production time! If you read this series, you will surely find the plastic model you want to build.

So, "Weekend Plastic Model Making by Voice Actor Taiyuki! Part 67 begins!

Weekend Plastic Modeling by Yutaka Tai, a voice actor! Part 68: MODEROID ZABUNGLE (Part 2)

Now, let's show you the separation and transformation into Bungle Skipper and Bungle Rover in the second part.

First, it is divided into upper and lower parts at the waist.

Remove the backpack once, retract the head and tilt the antenna inward.

Align both arms over the head.

Move the wheels into position while deploying the armor folded on the forearms and covering the wrists.

Rotate the tires on both sides of the abdomen into position, then fold the body forward and attach the backpack.

Close the wings to complete the Bungle Skipper.

There were many interesting parts of the transformation up to this point, such as the storage of the head and the new interpretation of the wrists. The Bungle Skipper is a long-nose type vehicle mecha, and it is quite large compared to a normal car, with an overall length of 10.5 meters.

The engine, which was also glimpsed in the WM (walker machine) form, can be seen. At first glance, one might think that the silhouette of this model is just as it is set up, but it also has many well-considered details.

The nose part is formed by covering the wrist with armor. I am not sure what is going on here in the deformation scene in the anime, but I guess this interpretation is what they have put together this time.

In front of the tire cover is a light sculpture. The top of the cover has non-slip detailing.

Inside the cockpit are two seats. The footrests on both sides of the seats also have anti-slip details. The intakes seem to be covered with mesh. There are also rivets on each part of the body and the indentation where you can catch your foot to climb up to the roof.

I moved closer to the engine part. By the way, if you look into the engine, you can see that up to the 8th cylinder has been sculpted. The turbojet engine jets are also realistically detailed. There is also a non-slip surface on the upper surface of the rear tire cover. When details are added from heavy equipment and mechanical considerations like this, the WM-ness of the Zabungle is enhanced in the heroic look of the Zabungle.

Let's continue with the transformation of the Bungle Rover.

Push in the area circled in red to bring out the connection with the Bungle Skipper.

Then the connection part is pushed forward.

Move the shin part so that it floats slightly and fix both legs together.

Shrink the ankles forward and backward, and slide the thighs also to store them in the shins. Then, cover the legs while unfolding some of the wings of both feet. In addition, raise the triple missile launchers that come on both sides of the nose.

Once the wings are boxed together, the Bungle Rover is complete. In this kit, the shutters seen in the cartoon are omitted. However, since that shutter is a wonder of the anime expression that we don't know where it is stored, we don't feel any particular problem.

The "boxy" shape is reminiscent of a covered wagon, but the "sci-fi mecha" look has not been compromised by the many details, including the original details on the ankles in the WM form.

The Bungle Rover is also equipped with a jet engine, but I have the strong impression that it was used for merging rather than for free flight.

Pull out the connecting joint at the rear of the Bungle Skipper to ......

Connect it to the Bungle Rover to complete the Zabungle Car. The silhouette of the skipper, which replaces the carriage, and the Rover, which looks like a covered wagon, fits well on the wilderness planet Zora.

In the movie, there was an episode in which a weapon was attached to the rover. It would be easy to reproduce this using a hemp cord.

It can also swing slightly at the connecting part.

Next, we will transform Skipper and Rover into flight form.

The backpack of the Skipper can be moved one step forward to ......

Deploy the wings and collapse the tire covers to complete the Bungle Skipper flight form.

Easy!

The deformation of the tire cover is one of the biggest problems when ZABUNGLE is sculpted, but this kit solves the problem by providing "pre-assembled parts on the axis" for this size and movable parts. The kit also allows for playful deformation as a toy.

The Bungle Rover is almost complete when the wings are deployed and the nose is pulled out.

The landing gear is stored under the nose section.

Once the landing gear is lowered, the Bungle Rover's flight configuration is complete. Although it was not shown in the movie, I would have liked to see a dogfight with the skipper in this form.

The Zabungle is equipped with a six-cylinder engine and a jet engine on each of its left and right legs. The Zabungle is powerful enough to support the weight of both legs.

The detail around the heels could be interpreted as a tail lamp. I am sure this area is left to the imagination of the builder and painter.

The skipper does not have joint holes for a stand, so clip-type parts from "THE Simple Stand" are used to recreate the flying state.

The Rover could use the attachment in WM form, although it interferes a bit.

The most memorable scene of these two machines in flight is the OP video. The scene where the two machines glide in the strong sunlight casting black shadows on the ground for a short time after merging and before shifting into the transformed form is particularly memorable because I watched it every week.

Such a pre-transformation combined form can also be reproduced.

You can also try to reproduce the deformation bank as it is.

The toy at the time had a transformation gimmick that opened the chest and raised the head, which was slightly different from the setting in the movie (that was a wonderful toy that was easy to play with), but the MODEROID transforms by pulling out the head, so it is even closer to the depiction in the anime.

Wind, storm, or blue flash!

As explained in the introduction of weapons, except for the bazooka on the arm, the regular ZABUNGLE can be fully equipped.

Now, as an "extra step," we will build the Zyron machine and weather the fully equipped Zabungle by using the parts that were not selected earlier.

Zabungle is a boy!

This model was produced in the image of Zabungle, which has been active in the wilderness for a long time. The basic color is the same as the molding color of the kit, and GSI Creos' "Weathering Color Grand Brown" is used for the smear. After wiping off the surface properly (it will be stained later, so there is no need to smear it clean), weathering was done with 200 yen foundation. The weapons were then dry brushed heavily with Gaianotes' "Gilding Wax Silver" and finally finished with a spray of "Top Coat Matte".

I recommend just smearing it because it makes the details clearer. If I were to go into detail, it would be even better if I scratched the armor, but this time, I settled on this kind of finish as long as I could do it easily.

What do you think? I think the "walker machine" look of the planet Zora has been emphasized.

The yellow parts on the forehead and chest are clear parts painted with "Clear Yellow" by GSI Creos. The clear parts of the chest are covered with foil stickers that were left over and cut out into circles. Although it is stained, the sense of depth of the clear parts of the chest is preserved.

The triangular parts on the upper part of the chest are also blue. The triangular part above the chest is also blue.

While turning the wheel parts, apply foundation mainly to the ground surface. Since the mechanism has many edges, it is easy to create a dry brush effect.

I tried to make the area around the ankles especially dirty, but I may have been naive.

I drybrushed only the weapon parts with silver, but I should have done a little to the knee and elbow joints as well. How would you guys stain it?

I was very thankful for the deep wing detail, as it makes the smearing clearer and also allows the drybrush effect to come in. This time, I directly weathered the molding color, but you may want to paint the mechanical parts such as joints with metallic paints to express the metallic effect.

Incidentally, the 4-round bazooka equipped on the left arm can also be attached to the right arm.

How was MODEROID ZABUNGLE?

When I was transforming it, I felt that "the "MODEROID" series can be enjoyed as a toy depending on how you look at it, and if you think of it as a model, it can be seen as a material for creating works of art at that moment. Perhaps this can be said of all the kits of recent years that have been enhanced by color-coding using molded colors.

The same ZABUNGLE, in the state when it was completed by Innocent's hands, and the state after it was handed over to the Cargo family. And in the state near the final episode, various parts are different. Even if different people produce the same period of time, they will not be exactly the same. That is the interesting thing about "models.

By the way, only the following items were used for weathering this time.

This alone can be applied to various mecha/robot kits, so please take a look at it as a reference when you try your hand at it.
