Offline for the first time in three years! Street Fighter 6" and "Tekken 8" will be on display at EVOJapan 2023.

EVOJapan 2023, a fighting game festival, was held at Tokyo Big Sight from March 31 to April 2, 2023.

Due to the Corona disaster, the event had been refrained from being held after 2020, but this time it was the first time in three years that it was held offline with visitors.

At the main venue, there were 7 titles: "Granblue Fantasy Versus", "MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA", "Virtua Fighter esports", "THE KING OF FIGHTERS XV", "Guilty Gear Strive", "Tekken 7", and "Street Fighter 5 Champion Edition," were held for the seven titles in the tournament.

In addition to the main event, there were also side tournaments organized by users and manufacturers of old fighting games, as well as booth exhibits by companies, making the event a lively one.

Since side tournaments could not be held at the Corona Disaster, this was the first major fighting game event in many years to draw a large crowd of players. A 30-something male visitor from Tokyo said, "There are tournaments every week for the old games themselves, but there is an atmosphere that can only be experienced at this venue, so I'm glad it was held offline this time.

At the SNK booth, the best works from the KOF XV 1st Anniversary Illustration Contest were also on display. Next to the poster distribution area, there was a collection corner where many comments and illustrations were left from fans.

Of course, there were also new games on trial, with " Street Fighter 6, " scheduled for release in June 2023 at the Capcom booth, and " Tekken 8, " scheduled for release in 2024 at the Namco Bandai booth, drawing long lines of people. A man in his 40s who visited from Saitama Prefecture and tried out "Street Fighter 6" at the venue said, "I still don't understand some aspects of the system, but it's nice to get a novelty if you play at the venue.

In addition, game-related products were also promoted, and at the Sony INZONE booth, visitors were able to try out games using the official monitor and headset used in the tournament.

The official monitor, the INZONE M3, is an HD/240Hz LCD monitor, which according to the booth staff, is ideal for liquids and other fine detail, and the images from "Street Fighter 5 Champion Edition" were indeed smooth. The fact that the display is slightly larger than a typical gaming display also contributes to its ease of viewing. The "INZONE H3" headset also had a very clear sound quality.

The total prize money for EVOJapan 2023 was a record 14 million yen, with the first place winner of each title receiving 1 million yen.
