EVO Japan 2023" Day 2 Main Stage Report! For the first time at EVO Japan, fierce competitors from "Melbula," "Virtua Fighter esports," and "KOF XV" will battle it out in the main stage!

EVO Japan 2023 took place at Tokyo Big Sight from March 31 to April 2, 2023. Here we will introduce the final matches of the three titles "MELTY BLOOD:TYPE LUMINA", "Virtua Fighter esports", and "THE KING OF FIGHTERS XV (KOF XV)" that were held on the main stage on the second day.

⇒EVO Japan 2023" will be held offline for the first time in three years! EVOJapan2023" venue will also feature trial play of "Street Fighter 6," "Tekken 8," and other games.

EVO Japan 2023" will feature double-elimination rules for all events, meaning that all contestants will have a chance to win the tournament until they lose twice in a match in which they win the first two sets or three sets. In the finals, eight finalists were chosen to compete for the championship: four from the Winners' Tournament, in which the players had no losses until then and had a second chance even if they lost once; and four finalists from the Rousers' Tournament, in which the players had one loss and were eliminated from the Loser's Bracket.

The winner of "MELTY BLOOD:TYPE LUMINA" was Kjiro, who said, "I would like to go to EVO 2023 if I can make it while finding a balance between work and the tournament.

MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA" is a fighting game based on the world of the novel game "Tsukihime. Although it is a so-called "character game," there are a variety of ways to get around in the game, including special systems and skills that utilize magic circuit gauges, moon icons, shields, and more. In addition, the game has a very offensive nature, as downing an opponent allows the player to continue to attack with a considerable advantage.

The eight finalists used seven characters: Aoko Aozaki, Noel, Jade, Akiha Tono, Vroeve Arhangeli, Mikhail Roa Bardamjohn, and Shiki Tono, and only Aoko was a match for any of the other characters, making for a very diverse final.

In the grand final, Kjiro, playing Elle, and Yuka, playing Loa, who had won the Loosers, faced off. YUIKA won the first game and took the lead, but then KJIRO won two games in a row. YUIKA then caught up, making it 2-2, but KJIRO's target was a throw, and he won the final game with a jump attack.

K Jiro said, "Even though I was undefeated (in the preliminary and best-of-8 matches), there were many matches that I won after dropping one of the first two, so I had no margin at all, but I was able to come this far because I didn't give up. I was lucky that my opponent was a character I had been working on," he said.

As for "EVO 2023" to be held in the U.S. in August, he said that he would like to go if he can go, while he is not a full-time fighting gamer.

The Virtua Fighter series was selected for "evo Japan" for the first time! The winner is "a man who has devoted half his life to VF.

Virtua Fighter esports, the first main title from the Virtua Fighter series to be selected for "evo Japan," is a remake of "Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown," released in 2010.

As the game was popular before professional gamers became common, there are more fierce players without professional licenses than in the same, 3D fighting game, "Tekken 7". Therefore, of the eight players who remained in the finals, four were pro-gamers, half of the total number of players.

However, the momentum and motivation of the professional gamers was directly reflected in the competition, as the "Virtua Fighter eSports Pro Championship 2023" had just been held half a month earlier on March 19, and the first three places were dominated by professional gamers.

In the finals, Jackie player Tonchan, winner of the "Virtua Fighter eSports Pro Championship 2023," lived up to his reputation as a strong player and advanced to the finals as a representative of the Winners' Final. He was facing off again against Pai's Akatan Shirapo, who had been eliminated from the Winners' Finals to the Loosers.

Although there was nothing left to be done, he showed his true defensive strength in the Grand Final, winning three games before the reset. However, in the Grand Final after the reset, Tonchan won the tournament in straight games with three straight victories, taking a huge amount of damage with his sharply read return moves, which made the play-by-play commentators say, "What a terrible choice!

Tonchan, who says himself that he has devoted half of his life to Virtua Fighter, was crowned EVO Japan's first EVO Japan champion. Tonchan was crying in return.

Tonchan commented on stage as the winner, "I was one of the three most nervous players in my life, but I think my nerves worked in a good way and I came out better than my ability. Regarding the rules for future tournaments in this title, he commented, "I don't like the fact that the stage selection is random every time. There are characters whose performance varies considerably depending on the stage, so maybe the first player to lose should have the right to choose the stage.

KOF's strongest player made his point! Implementation of Goenitz also announced and talked about

Chinese player Xiaohai, who has been considered the strongest KOF player for many years, took the stage for the finals of KOF XV. He wowed the audience with his unparalleled combos and moves, and his momentum carried him to the Grand Final as the top winner of the Winners' Tournament.

In the Grand Final, he faced Taiwan's ZJZZ, who had once been eliminated from the Routers tournament, but won the Grand Final with an overwhelming 3 straight victories. Before the final match, Xiaohai said, "I won't say anything else, I came here to win! Xiaohai said before the final match, "I'm not going to say anything else, I came here to win!

In the video released prior to the start of the KOF XV finals, it was announced that the character Geinitz, who appeared as a boss in "The King of Fighters '96," would be implemented as a playable character, and the audience was very excited about this.
