All the Entertainment Elements! Special Stage Report on the Hot Live-action Movie "Detective Pikachu" at Tokyo Comic-Con 2018!

On November 30, 2018, a special stage for the Hollywood live-action movie "Detective Pikachu" was held at Tokyo Comic-Con 2018, one of the world's largest pop culture events, at Makuhari Messe.

Based on the game of the same name, "Detective Pikachu" is the first live-action Pokémon movie in history, and is an action mystery movie in which the main character, Tim, searches for his missing father with Pikachu, the famous detective.

Pikachu is played by Ryan Reynolds, known for his role in "Deadpool. Ken Watanabe will also appear in the film from Japan.

Legendary Pictures, known for "The Dark Knight," "Godzilla (2014)," and "Pacific Rim," will produce the film.

Newcomer Justice Smith, who plays Tim Goodman, the cocky but lovable sidekick of the famous detective Pikachu, Kathryn Newton, who plays Lucy, who is after Tim's information to advance her career as a news reporter, and director Rob Letterman will be on stage this time. They discussed the appeal of the film and their memories of "Pokemon.

The three first watched the just-released special trailer with the audience.

When asked about the highlights of the film, the director said, "It will be a wonderful film. This footage is just a part of it. There are elements of action, comedy, and magic, but the best part is the touching story. The relationship between Tim and Pikachu is wonderful. We also use the latest in computer graphics, so it has the charm of a live-action film," he commented.

He also commented on his feelings when he first received the offer, "I was very excited. My child is also a fan of "Pokemon" and had enjoyed the game, the animation, and the animated film. I jumped for joy with my child," he said happily.

Justice also said, "I was alone in a restaurant when I got the offer, so I didn't have a very big reaction," but then "I quietly packed my bags and went out to the streets of New York City, and then I did it! and yelled out loud". Kathleen said, "I was sitting on the couch at home with my poodle when I got the call about the offer. As a fan, I am happy to be able to play a role in the wonderful world of 'Pokemon'".

Justice and Kathleen, who met for the first time when they co-starred in this film, seemed to be getting along well with each other on stage, creating a friendly atmosphere on the stage.

One of the highlights of the film is that for the first time, Pokémon are depicted as CG characters that fit in with the live-action world. The director commented, "It was very difficult. For about a year, we pursued a photorealistic look that would work in the real world. We went to that length to capture the spirit of Pokemon," he said.

The result is that Pokémon are moving around on the screen with an unprecedented sense of reality, as you can see from the trailer.

Finally, when asked about her favorite Pokémon, Kathleen chose Kodak, her partner in the film. Justice chose Alligator, saying that it was the first Pokémon that appeared in the first "Pokémon" game she played.

The director happily engaged in Pokémon discussion, saying, "Kodak is good, but I also like Barnyard.

The film is scheduled for release in Japan in May 2019.
