It is Matsubarizer K, a local hero protecting Saga Prefecture in the Kyushu region!

The 10th Matsubarizer K, Kyushu Region, Saga Prefecture

In this issue, we introduce Matsubarizer K, who is currently active in Saga Prefecture in Kyushu, where the local hero fever is the highest in Japan.

Hero events in Kyushu are so successful that hero fans from the Kanto and Kansai regions go out of their way to visit them. The term "paying a visit to Kyushu" has even become popular among some local hero fans.

Among the hot heroes in Kyushu, Matsubarizer K, who has an ironic presence, is one of the oldest local heroes in the area. His first appearance was in 2007, when he was conceived as the guardian of the Hyaaran-san Festival at Matsugenshin Impact Shrine in Saga City, Saga Prefecture. When he made his first appearance, he was featured in local media papers and created a buzz, and since then he has been active as a local hero.

First, we would like to introduce Matsubarizer K's hometown, Saga Prefecture.

Kyushu Region, Saga Prefecture

Located in the northwestern part of the Kyushu region, Saga Prefecture has a population of 819,110 (estimated population, October 1, 2018).

The prefectural tree is the camphor tree, the prefectural flower is the camphor flower, the prefectural bird is the magpie (Kachigarasu), and the prefectural capital is Saga City.

Fukuoka Prefecture lies to the east, Nagasaki Prefecture to the west, the Genkainada Sea to the north, and the Ariake Sea to the south. The prefecture's mild climate and fertile land make it one of the best agricultural regions in Japan. Looking around the prefecture, the vast Saga Plain stretches from the south to the east, and the Chikugo River, Kyushu's first class river, flows through the eastern part of the prefecture. As mentioned above, the southern part of the prefecture borders the Ariake Sea, while the northern part is covered by the Sefuri Mountains, making the topography of the prefecture resemble a diagram of the Four Divinities of Feng Shui. Perhaps because of the geological features, an ancient nation based on rice cultivation flourished in the area, and many ruins from the Yayoi period, including the Yoshinokaseri Ruins, have been discovered.

In the medieval period, the area grew in power under Naoshige Nabeshima, the lord of the Saga Domain. During this period, the Nabeshima clan was involved in a family feud, which was later transformed into the "Haunted Cat Feud" and passed down through the generations. Many people may be familiar with this "haunted cat riot" through Kabuki performances and Ukiyoe paintings by Kuniyoshi Utagawa. The legend of the kappa (water sprite) of the Matsubara River, which flows through the castle town of Saga Castle, is also well known.

At the end of the Edo period, Saga participated in the Boshin War and produced many important figures who contributed to the Meiji Restoration.

These included Shigenobu Okuma, founder of Waseda University; Taneomi Soejima, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who was praised for winning the first international court case; Takatomo Oki, the second Governor of Tokyo; Shinpei Eto, one of those who proposed moving the capital from Kyoto to Tokyo; Tsunetami Sano, founder of the Japanese Red Cross Society; and Yoshiyuu Shima, father of Hokkaido's development. The above six men were fostered by Naomasa Nabeshima, a great lord at the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate. They are still respected by local people as the "Seven Wise Men of Saga.

Saga is famous for its ceramics from Karatsu, Imari, and Arita, Saga beef and seaweed, as well as delicious food such as squid from Yobuko, onions from Shiraishi Town, oysters from Tara Town, and Ureshino tea.

Many tourist attractions are scattered throughout the area, including Yoshinogeri Historical Park, Yutoku Inari Shrine, Karatsu Castle, Saga Prefectural Space Science Museum, Mifuneyama Paradise, and Niji-no-Matsubara, one of the three largest pine groves in Japan.

Guardian of Children

Next, let me introduce the story of Matsubarizer K.

Once upon a time, once upon a time. In the medieval age of Japan, in the country of Hizen, there lived a family of kappa called "Hyosubes" ("Hyosubes") who lived on the Matsubara River. The Hyosubes did evil deeds such as dragging children playing in the river, so Naoshige Nabeshima, the feudal lord of Saga Castle, decided to defeat the Hyosubes. The Hyobis remorseful for their misdeeds, the Hyobis made a promise, harder than stone, to protect the children playing in the river forever, and a stone statue of a kappa was erected to prove it.

The time has passed, and now we live in the present day.

The promise made by the ancestors was inherited by Matsubarizer K. However, the Matsubara River was polluted by humans, and Matsubarizer K, who could no longer live in the river, went on a journey to train as a warrior. After hearing that the river had been restored by the local people, Matsubarizer K returned to the Matsubara River in 2007.

However, Matsubarizer K was not the only one who returned to the river. Other yokai with a grudge against humans and those from other regions who invaded to take advantage of the clean river began to appear one after another. Matsubarizer K decides to continue fighting to protect humans and children.

The Specter Hero is Here!

Matsubarizer K also has an excellent setting. The Hyosube clan is ruled by the Four Heavenly Kings, Matsubarizer K, Matsubarancer Q, Matsubariner A, and Matsubariger J, while a powerful villain named Suitora appears from the same clan to torment Matsubarizer K. Other rival yokai, such as the mountain yokai Daitengu and his subordinate Sanbougasu (Crow Tengu), also add to the excitement of the story. The show is not only for tokusatsu fans, but also for yokai fans, children and adults alike.

The show itself is also composed of very high quality action.

This is because the representative of PROJECT-K, which manages this project, is an action actor who used to be active in the front lines. After returning to his hometown in Saga Prefecture, he created a local hero to expose local children to authentic action.

His activities were like Sekisui Seien, and he was one of the first to utilize the Internet and make numerous appearances at events. He became well-known in his hometown, was supported and loved by the people, and grew to become a hero representing Saga Prefecture.

In the 2010s, the media began to feature local heroes, and Matsubarizer K became a nationally recognized hero of Saga Prefecture.

In 2013, a new setting of the ninja's human form was unveiled to the public, creating a buzz. Kappa is one of the heroes that we cannot take our eyes off of in the future. Incidentally, kappa likes cucumbers, while hyosube is said to prefer eggplants.
