Profile of Saori Yoshida
Born in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture. She began wrestling at the age of 3 under the guidance of her father, Sakatsu (deceased), a former wrestler who opened a wrestling dojo in his home.
He won his first World Championships in 2002. She won a gold medal in the 55kg women's wrestling event at the 2004 Athens Olympics, her first appearance in the Olympics, and also won a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She won her third consecutive gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, where she served as the team standard bearer. In the same year, she also won the National Medal of Honor for being the world's number one wrestler for 13 consecutive events.
