Recommended for Gunpla painting! Review of "Mr. Brush Pen Set with Tank" for Painting and Weathering! The Tool Way! The 15th issue of "The Tool Way!
Hello, this is Karyas! This is the 15th edition of "The Tool Way! In this 15th issue of "The Tool Way!", we would like to introduce and review the "Brush Pen Set with Mr. Tank" now on sale from GSI Creos!
Hello everyone! This is Kariyasu, who spent the GW holidays at a model exhibition and at home making plastic models in a relaxed atmosphere!
This time, I would like to introduce the "Brush Pen Set with Mr. Tank", which will be very useful for painting and weathering. It's a great new tool that I've never seen before, and I'm very happy about it!
What kind of product is it?
This product is a brush pen for models, jointly developed by Kureos and stationery manufacturer Kuretake. It is very simple to use, just fill the tank with paint, solvent, water, etc. The mechanism is similar to existing brush pens. The mechanism is similar to that of existing brush pens, and the liquid in the tank is soaked into the brush to maintain a uniform density, making it possible to easily paint kits and weather them over the painted surface!
For 990 yen (tax included), you can get a set of two brushes, a fine brush and a flat brush. It may be a good idea to buy several as spares.
Which paints are supported?
The paints that can be put in the tank are "water-based (acrylic)," "water-based weathering paint," and "Mr. Weathering Color" and their corresponding special solvents. Incidentally, enamel- and lacquer-based paints cannot be used because they have strong dissolving power and will damage tanks and brushes.
Of course, be careful not to add pour-in adhesives, etc!
Water-based hobby colors and acrylics, as well as water-based and acrylic-based products can all be used. Let's try various things!
Check the contents!
Fine brush. They will be useful not only for painting small parts, but also for drawing camouflage patterns.
And a flat brush. By removing the transparent cover part on the tip shaft, the length of the flat brush tip can be doubled!
When painting a large area, it is convenient to use it in the state of an extra large flat brush!
The tank is designed to hold a considerable volume for both brushes, which is enough for big size models. After removing the nib, the liquid is sucked up like a dropper and filled.
If you want to fill a large amount, you can also directly pour liquid into the tank by removing the lid of the dropper part. Since it is stuck on quite tightly, use a parts opener or the like to remove it without forcibly prying it off!
First, let's practice!
To get a feel for it, test it with water at first.
Suck solvent or water into the tank from the mouth of the tank like a dropper!
Water in the tank can be delivered to the brush by pushing the tank. The brush will be moistened and can be applied directly to the brush if the paint is included! When you want to dilute the color, you can quickly adjust it by pushing the tank and adding water or solvent!

Let's try painting!
Now that you know how to use the paint brush, let's start painting! This time, I will use Tamiya's "1/35 Brick Set" for experimentation to get a realistic finish.
Although the color is originally brick-like, it still has a strong plastic look. Therefore, I will change the color a little with water-based Hobby Color Brown (glossy).
I diluted the color a little with water-based hobby color diluent and poured it into the tank of a flat brush. If the concentration is appropriate, the paint will come out from the tip of the brush!
I did not spray any surfacer, but I was able to color without any problem! It's a little hard to tell, but it turned out to be a solid light brown.

Next, we will add color to the recessed mold. After confirming that the brown had dried properly, I diluted the water-based color acrylate SALE COLOR (glossy) with water and injected it into the tank of the fine brush.
The entire one side of the paint is painted in a shabby, washing-like motion, and before it dries, the color is removed by rubbing the surface with a cotton swab. If the density adjustment is not done properly, the paint may not come out cleanly, or conversely, it may be too watery to color, so try again and again!
Sail color remains only on the concave mold, making it look more brick-like! If you don't like enamel-based paints (and their smell), you may want to use water-based paints like this for smudging and washing. However, unlike enamel-based paints, water-based and acrylic paints cannot be dissolved with solvents after drying, so you need to work speedily. Be careful!

Let's try cleaning!
After the work is finished or when replacing the paint in the tank, it is necessary to clean the tank with water or a special paint thinner. The process is quite simple: simply inhale and exhale repeatedly in a glass of water or diluent to clean!
The paint in the tank can be stored temporarily, but if it is left to dry out, neither the brush nor the tank will be able to dissolve it with the special solvent. Therefore, when you are finished, clean the paint thoroughly with lacquer solvent or brush cleaner as soon as possible, and rinse with water at the end. If the work is only temporary, using lacquer solvent is unlikely to cause damage, so be sure to clean quickly and efficiently.

Let's add only the thinning solution!
Now we want to smear the other side using Mr. Weathering Color Grand Brown.
Weathering Color is an excellent product that can be used in a variety of ways, including smudging and weathering, and there are many different types of weathering colors. They are different from enamel paints, so you need to prepare a special thinning solution.
Apply the well-dispersed weathering color with a regular brush.
Fill the tank of the cleaned fine brush with only Mr. Weatherization Color's exclusive thinning liquid and wash it.
Clean off only the ground brown on the surface with a cotton swab as before, and the smudging is complete!
The brick now has a different look than before!

So, how did you like it? This time we experimented with bricks, but the brush can be used for all kinds of models, including scale models and Gundam plastic models, so I think it will be fun to experiment with various ways to use it.
Well, we will see you again~♪
