Seven years after "Shin Godzilla," the worst "despair" in history strikes! The latest Godzilla movie "Godzilla-1.0" special trailer and director's comments are released.
The title, visuals, and special trailer for the latest "Godzilla" film, which will hit the road on November 3, have been released.
Since its first appearance in 1954, "Godzilla" has fascinated and shocked not only Japan but the world. The decision to produce the latest Godzilla movie was announced last year as a major project ahead of the 70th anniversary of Godzilla's birth in 2024.
This is a special milestone, as it is the 70th anniversary film and the 30th live-action Godzilla film produced in Japan. Furthermore, the latest film, which will be the first Godzilla produced in "2023" will be released on November 3, 2023 (Friday, national holiday), "Godzilla Day".
The film will be directed, scripted, and VFX directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who also directed "ALWAYS: Sunset on Third Street," in which Godzilla appears at the beginning of the film, and who has openly declared himself a Godzilla fan.
The title of the film is "Godzilla-1.0" (Godzilla minus one). The teaser visual shows Godzilla in the film, which is being unveiled for the first time, looking wild and godlike. The film is set in postwar Japan. From nothing (zero) to negative (minus one). The words "From nothing (zero) to negative (minus)" foreshadow an unimaginable crisis.
In the 30-second special feature film, we see Japan being destroyed by Godzilla, after all signs of postwar recovery have faded away. The Godzilla of this film, which brings Japan to the brink of despair, is presented in a "strong, scary, and close" manner, and delivers a powerful shock.
Teaser Visual
Special Video
After the war, Godzilla appears as if to strike back at Japan, which has been reduced to zero, and plunges the country into a negative situation. The most desperate situation in history, who is going to attack? And how? Will Japan stand up to it?
The poster with this teaser visual and the special trailer will be displayed and shown sequentially in movie theaters nationwide (*excluding some locations) from July 14 (Fri.) onward. The film will also be released in North American cinemas on December 1, 2023 (Friday), approximately one month after its Japanese release.
Director Takashi Yamazaki commented: "Japan is a postwar country that has lost everything.
Postwar Japan has lost everything. The film depicts an existence that gives unprecedented despair, as if to drive it into a tailspin. The title "Godzilla-1.0" was created with this in mind.
In order to depict this, the staff and I have worked together to create a setting where Godzilla looks as if "fear" itself is walking toward us and where despair is piled on top of despair.
I think this is the culmination of all the films I have made so far. And I think it is a film that deserves to be "experienced" rather than "watched" in the theater.
I hope you will experience the most terrifying Godzilla in the best possible environment.
