Akihabara is famous for curry! Long-established "Curry Specialty Restaurant Bengal" Chicken Curry 990 yen!

When you come to Akihabara, you may have a hard time deciding where to have lunch.

To help you decide, here are some Akiba eats recommended by Shun Gori, a man who wanders around Akihabara even when he has no need for lunch.

⇒Here are 20 new ramen stores in Akihabara in 2023! Introducing delicious restaurants you'll want to wait in line to try!

⇒[ 2023] 42 really delicious popular curry restaurants in Akihabara! The staff of the editorial department will introduce the restaurants that we have actually tried and enjoyed!

As Akibaites who prefer to spend their money on their hobbies, we would like to introduce mainly those restaurants where you can eat for less than 1,000 yen, assuming that the amount of money you can spend for lunch is within 1,000 yen.

So, when I thought about what to eat, I decided that Akiba is all about curry! And speaking of curry in Akihabara, there is that restaurant that has been in business for 50 years this year! That is why I went to "Curry Specialty Restaurant Bengal.

Bengal" is about a 10-minute walk from the Electric Town exit of JR Akihabara Station, and about a 5-minute walk from Suehirocho Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line. It is located just off Shoheibashi-dori, one street west of Chuo-dori, the main street of Akihabara.

The restaurant has a small but relaxed atmosphere with a counter seating 5 and 7 tables seating 24.

Lunch time is from 11:30 to 15:00 on weekdays. In addition to the "Lunch Plate" of 1,200 yen (tax included), which includes two types of curry that change daily, half-boiled egg achard, rice, salad, and lassi, the "A Set" of regular curry with salad and mini lassi for +300 yen and the "B Set" of curry with salad and coffee for +400 yen. B Set" includes a salad and coffee for 400 yen.

The rice can be changed to a large serving for free only during weekday lunch hours.

When we asked the waiter, "What do you recommend? The waitress replied, "I would have to say the beef curry cubes, which is the signature item on the menu. However, the restaurant has been in business for more than 50 years in Akihabara, a hot battleground for curry, so you can't go wrong no matter what you order.

Of course, I would have liked to order the "beef cubed curry" (1,300 yen including tax) or the "lunch plate" (1,200 yen including tax) recommended by the waitress, but both of them would have exceeded my budget of 1,000 yen, so my budget options were the 990 yen "pork curry," "chicken curry" and "shrimp curry. The choice was between "Pork Curry," "Chicken Curry," and "Shrimp Curry" for 990 yen.

When I asked the waiter again what he would choose within the ¥1,000 range, he replied, "Chicken is a good choice because it is hearty. Indeed, I wanted a hearty lunch, so I ordered the "Chicken Curry" with a large bowl of rice and a spicy sauce.

At Bengal, you can choose from "hot," "medium hot," and "sweet," but if you don't like spicy food, I highly recommend you try the "hot" version.

Rice in a spicy roux with plenty of large pieces of chicken, potatoes and carrots in easy-to-eat sizes. This is curry! you will want to exclaim. If it were Goro from a certain cartoon, he would have said, "Yes, this is just the way it should be.

Jalapeño pepper, achar, and fukujinzuke pickles are available as accompaniments.

The author recommends the "Jalapeño Pepper," and mixing just the right amount into the roux, you can enjoy a curry with an intense spiciness.

For those who want something spicier, the "Chili Beef Curry" (1,400 yen including tax), which uses chili peppers from around the world, is recommended.

For those who say, "Curry goes well with cheese," there is the "Yaki Curry" (grilled curry), and for those who like to try different kinds of curry, there is the "Oyubari Double Curry.

In addition, desserts, drinks, and beer are also available. It might be a good idea to have "Curry with Beer!

Frozen curry and spices used in the restaurant's curry are also available for purchase.

This time, we visited the long-established curry store "Curry Specialty Store Bengal," which has been in business for 50 years in Akihabara, a place with a rapid turnover of customers.

Originally located in front of the "Kyushu Jangara Akihabara Main Store," it moved to its current location after the demolition of the building that housed it, but it continues to serve delicious curry with a focus on spices.

Akihabara has many food options, but when you come to visit us, we hope you will enjoy the curry at "Curry Specialty Restaurant Bengal"!
