Today, July 14, 2023, Genshi Yonezu announced via SNS that he has written "Globe" as the theme song for "How Do You Live?

The film "How Do You Live?" (produced by Studio Ghibli) is the latest "adventure fantasy" feature film based on an original story by director Miyazaki.
The title of the film, which is an original story written, scripted, and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, was borrowed from the book "How Do You Live," written by Genzaburo Yoshino, which Hayao Miyazaki read as a boy and was moved by.

Yonezu has long professed his admiration for director Hayao Miyazaki and his influence on him as a writer and guidepost. From the shock of seeing "Princess Mononoke" and "Spirited Away" in movie theaters when he was in elementary school, to the fact that he uses the manga version of "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" as a guideline for his creative work, Hayao Miyazaki has been a great blessing to him from his childhood up to the present. This time, Yonezu's longtime desire to work with director Hayao Miyazaki has come to fruition after four years of collaboration.

The song "Chikyugi" was written, composed, and sung by Genshi Yonezu, and will be digitally distributed on Monday, July 17, and released as a single CD on Wednesday, July 26. The single will be packaged with a 160-page photo book, and will be released in two formats: initial and standard editions. The first edition will be released in two forms: an initial edition and a regular edition.

In addition, the artist photo for "Globe" was also unveiled for the first time, showing a shot of a fantastic landscape taken by photographer Wahei Kimura.

I wrote a song called "Globe" as the theme song for "How Do You Live?

It was about 4 years ago that I was told about it. At first I was astonished and at the same time puzzled as to why it was me. I was given a heavy storyboard that was five books' worth of material, Mr. Miyazaki explained it to me, and I began to compose the music with great trepidation. Now it feels as if it happened a long time ago.

During the past four years, I have visited the studio in Koganei several times to talk with Mr. Miyazaki and Mr. Suzuki, and most of the times it was on a beautiful sunny day. I remember walking through the shade of the blackened trees, listening to the voices of the neighborhood preschoolers. For someone who usually composes music in a small room by myself, tracing memories of the past, it was an experience that I can only call rich.

I grew up watching Mr. Miyazaki's films since I was a small child. Somehow I grew up and became a musician. I have been able to make my music available to many people. There are still countless aspects of my life that I am not fully aware of, but I believe that I have made it this far, including my inadequacies.

The Globe" is a song for "How Do You Live?" and it is also a song for me to give back what I have received from Mr. Miyazaki. Thank you for continuing to make films until now. And please keep on making them.
