Warner Bros. Japan's anime production division has announced that "Fist of the North Star," a milestone work in action manga, will be adapted into a new anime series.

The original work by Takeru Takemono and the manga by Tetsuo Hara, "Fist of the North Star," a milestone in action manga with a total of over 100 million copies sold, began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1983, and became a social phenomenon when the TV anime version was broadcast in 1984, achieving a maximum rating of 23.4%. It has been loved by many fans around the world through various media development.

It was announced that "Fist of the North Star" will be adapted into a new anime series on September 13, 2023, "Fist of the North Star Day," to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the birth of the original work. In addition, a teaser key visual for the new animation and comments from the original creator have been released.

The world of "Fist of the North Star," created by Takeru Takemono and Tetsuo Hara, will be faithfully visualized with new staff, cast, and the latest visual technology to preserve the charm of the original work.

Story

In the year 199X, the world is engulfed in nuclear fire.
The oceans dried up, the earth was torn apart, and all life seemed to have died out!
But it was a mad world where violence reigned. The survivors were divided into two groups: the powerful, who repeatedly looted and slaughtered, and the weak, who were brutally tortured.
Just when the weak are on the verge of despair and about to give up hope, a man dressed in rags appears.
With seven scars on his chest, he is Kenshiro, the Hokuto Shinken legend.

The work of 40 years ago will be revived again as an animated work. Actually, 40 years ago, I thought that manga and anime were two different things and kept a bit of distance from them.
Forty years have passed, and today's animation technology and images have evolved by leaps and bounds. How will these techniques and images be used to cook up "Fist of the North Star"?
Moreover, it is said that this time, the basic idea is to depict the original story with great care. I am really looking forward to it.

I was in my 20s when "Fist of the North Star" was serialized, and I never dreamed that the day would come when "Fist of the North Star" would celebrate its 40th anniversary and be rewarded with a completely new anime.

Original story information
The series was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1983 to 1988, written by Takeru Takemono (original story) and Tetsuo Hara (manga).
Set at the end of the century, when civilization has been lost due to nuclear war and violence rules the world, the story depicts Kenshiro, a Hokuto Shinken master, growing up as a savior with love and sorrow on his shoulders.
It will celebrate its 40th anniversary on September 13, 2023.
