Japan Game Awards 2023" Grand Prize in the annual works category goes to "Monster Hunter Rise: Sun Break"! Pokemon SV" won "Excellence Award" and "Best Sales Award" [TGS2023 Special Edition].

The Japan Game Awards is now in its 27th year.
This year's awards were open to the public from April 10 to July 21, 2010, for games released in Japan between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. The Japan Game Awards Selection Committee then reviewed the entries and selected the winners.

Monster Hunter Rise," which gained great popularity for its three-dimensional action using kakerimushi (flying bugs), has evolved significantly with a super-sized expansion pack. The series' unique monsters appear one after another, with a wide variety of weapons and new techniques that allow for original actions. The game was enthusiastically received by many users in a public vote, and won the Grand Prize in the annual Japan Game Awards category for the fun of "hunting" that expands with each update.

A number of popular works in 2023 won the "Excellence Award" one after another.

■"Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII - Reunion" (Square Enix Co., Ltd.)
This is an HD remastered version of "Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII-", which was released in 2007 for the PlayStation Portable.
Set seven years before "Final Fantasy VII," the HD remastered version of "Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII" retains the storyline that depicts the harsh fate of the main character, Zacks. The game also features full voice support and newly arranged music.
The command-based battles have evolved into more action-packed and speedy battles.

God of War Ragnarok" (Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc.)
A sequel to the hit "God of War," which depicts the growth and bond between a parent and child.
Set in the world of Norse mythology, father and son Kratos and Atreus battle gods and deformed monsters to prevent the end of the world. The game features bold and dynamic action, a profound story that unfolds uncut throughout the game, a world of Norse mythology expressed in beautiful graphics, and a variety of gimmicks and riddles that test the player's wits.
The overwhelming scale and quality of the game were the reason for its enthusiastic support.

Splatoon 3" (Nintendo Co., Ltd.)
The latest title in the hit "Splatoon" series. Swim through a sea of ink with a squid and paint every nook and cranny with people.
While the basic rules of splitting up into teams of 4 vs. 4 and competing for the most area painted remain unchanged, new features include tri-colored battles with three mixed teams, a season system, and new blades, special weapons, battle actions, and other new features.
The game was awarded to "Xenoblade 3" because it is a game that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, from adults to children, and is supported by many users, both male and female.

The game features adventures on an overwhelmingly large scale in the field, and battles that are both strategic and exhilarating. Many players were moved by the dramatic story woven by the main characters who live for a limited period of 10 years, and called it "the culmination of the series" and "the pinnacle of royal road RPG.

Sonic Frontier" (SEGA Corporation)
The latest title in the popular "Sonic" action game series!
The concept of a course has been removed, and the game has evolved into an open field type where players can freely choose how and in what order to proceed with the game, including battles with enemies, solving puzzles, and quests. The award was given to this title because of its appeal of high-speed action, the addition of an adventure element that allows players to run around a vast 3D field in all directions, and the fun that expands with each new update.

Chikyu Boeigun 6" (D3 Publisher, Inc.)
This is the latest title in the popular 3D action/shooting series "Chikyu Boeigun".
Set several years after the previous title, the game depicts battles against powerful enemies that come at you on an overwhelming scale from the sky, sea, and underground.
In the largest number of missions ever in the series, strategic use of a variety of weapons is even more important.
In addition to the enjoyment of battles that make full use of split-screen and online cooperative play and a variety of tactics, the storyline that recovers all the mysteries of the previous title has been well received by many fans and won the award.

Resident Evil RE:4" (Capcom Co., Ltd.)
A remake of the original "Resident Evil 4" released in 2005.
The story was restructured while utilizing the direction of the original work. The game also features new actions such as "parry" to prevent enemy attacks, "emergency evasion" to escape from a tight spot, and stealth skills and pursuit attacks on downed enemies.
The award was given to "the best survival horror game" by many first-time Resident Evil players and fans who have played the previous game, for the terror and unprecedented survival experience.

■"Paranoma Site FILE23: Seven Wonders of Honjo" (Square Enix Co., Ltd.)
This is an authentic mystery solving horror/mystery adventure depicting the story of the characters who pursue the real-life ghost stories "Honjo-Seven Wonders".
In a 360° panoramic recreation of Tokyo's Sumida Ward in the late Showa period, nine men and women, who have been cursed by the Seven Wonders of Honjo, engage in a breathless psychological battle over a hidden "secret art of resurrection".
The scenario, which takes two or three turns as the players' various agendas intertwine, and the shocking facts revealed by the players themselves, were highly praised not only as a horror/mystery adventure, but also for the low price, short but intense game experience, as well as the long-awaited sequel. ■"Hogwarts Legacy" (WB Games)
An open-world action RPG that takes players on an adventure through the world of the popular "Harry Potter" novels.
The setting of the game is "Hogwarts" in the 1800s. Players take on the role of students at the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, mixing potions, growing plants, and taming magical animals as they gain experience as wizards and battle against opposing forces.
The award was given to the film for its immersive and detailed depiction of the world of Harry Potter, which was well received by many "Harry Potter" fans.

It won two awards, the "Excellence Award" and the "Best Sales Award! Pokemon Scarlet Violet" (Pokemon Co., Ltd.)

Set in the Pardea region, players ride the legendary Pokémon "Korideon" and "Myrideon" through prairies and deserts, over water, and even glide over mountain peaks.
The award was given to this game because of its popularity among Pokémon fans of both sexes, ranging in age from 4 to 70, who enjoy freely traveling through the vast world inhabited by various Pokémon.

This is the latest title in the popular "Pokemon" series! The game adopts an open world for the first time in the series and supports multiplayer play. The game attracts many Pokémon fans with its fun and expansive adventures.
It won the award by recording the highest number of units sold during the period covered by the award. Since its simultaneous worldwide release on November 18, 2022, the game has sold a total of 7.47 million units in Japan through the end of June this year.
