NTV makes Studio Ghibli a subsidiary! NTV intends to support the management aspects of Studio Ghibli from now on

On September 21, 2023, NTV Holdings announced that it had decided at a meeting of its post-consolidation company NTV's Board of Directors held on the same day to acquire shares in Studio Ghibli and make it a subsidiary.

According to NTV's announcement, the decision to acquire the shares of Studio Ghibli was based on the belief that providing greater support to the world-class Studio Ghibli would contribute to increasing the corporate value of the NTV group as a whole.

NTV has been broadcasting Studio Ghibli's works through its movie program "Friday Road Show" since "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" was first broadcast on TV in 1985, and has also invested in the production of movies since "The Witch's Delivery Service" was released in 1989, and supported the establishment of the "Mitakanomori Ghibli Museum" which opened in 2001. The two companies have worked closely with Studio Ghibli for many years, and are expected to collaborate further in the future.

NTV says that the expected synergies include the possibility that by providing management support, Studio Ghibli will be able to focus more than ever on its "production" and create the ground for the creation of new works.
