■"The raven does not choose its master.
Yatagarasu is a legendary three-legged crow that appears in Japanese mythology. This "Yatagarasu Series" is an otherworldly fantasy in which their clan, who can transform into human form, fly around in all directions in the otherworldly Yamauchi.
The author, Chisato Abe, made her debut at the age of 20, the youngest person ever to win the Seicho Matsumoto Award. The first part of the series is complete in six volumes, beginning with "Karasu wa Hito wa Hinai" (Karasu wa Shikonai), which is set in the same time period as "Karasu wa Hito wa Hinai," and continuing with "Golden Karasu," "Kuukin no Karasu," "Tamayohime," and "Yaoe no Karasu.
The story is based on the elegant customs of the Heian period (794-1185), the fascinating characters centering on Wakamiya, the prince of Hitsuji, and Yukiya, a boy who serves at his side, the carefully contrived mysteries, and the battles with the great monkey, a natural enemy of the family.
His latest book is "Karasu no Midoribane" (October 2022).
