The first episode premiere screening and panel event report from "Anime NYC 2023" has arrived!

The official report from the event held on November 18 at "Anime NYC 2023" in New York City, USA, is as follows.

Official Report

Anime NYC 2023" was held at JACOB JAVITS CONVENTION CENTER in New York, USA from November 17 (Fri.) to 19 (Sun.). The first episode premiere screening of "Metallic Rouge" was held at 3:15 p.m. local time on Saturday, November 18 on the Crunchyroll Stage. A panel was held in conjunction with the screening, with appearances from the "Metallic Rouge" team including Yutaka Izubuchi, general supervisor, Taisei Iwasaki, music director, and Masahiko Minami, president and producer of Vons.

When the event started and the speakers appeared on stage, the audience applauded and cheered.
First, speaking about "Metallic Rouge," which is also the 25th anniversary of VON'S, Mr. Minami said, "It has been a blessing for me to have been able to start a company called VON'S and create animation at this studio for 25 years.
I worked with Mr. Izubuchi more than 20 years ago on a film called "Rahxephon. This was a work that we planned when BONDS was established. I feel very fortunate to have been able to work with Mr. Izubuchi on "Metallic Rouge" on the occasion of the 25th anniversary." Mr. Izubuchi then spoke of his joy at being able to create this work at the timing of the studio's milestone.

In response, Mr. Izubuchi joked, "I have been working with BONDS in a 25-year cycle (laugh)," and added, "Between the last "Rahxephon" and the current "Metallic Rouge," I have been working with BONDS continuously in design and project cooperation, but it has been a long time since we worked on a major project together. I am very happy to be able to work with them on a big project after a long time.

Mr. Minami added, "I have been working with Mr. Izubuchi on this project for about five or six years, and we created it with the hope that it would be a work that would be enjoyed by viewers for a long time. We at BONES also place great importance on original works, and we are working on this project with high hopes that we will be able to create an original work with Mr. Izubuchi on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the company. He also revealed how the work was chosen to commemorate the 25th anniversary.

In addition, Mr. Minami, Mr. Izubuchi, and Mr. Iwasaki talked about the highlights of the film,

Minami: "The main characters are two female buddies, who are cute but also have a serious side as agents of an organization. I hope you will pay attention to their buddy relationship and how they interact with each other.

Izubuchi "The highlights are all there (laughs). The worldview and setting of this film are well-developed, and I hope you will experience the matching of the wonderful music created by Mr. Iwasaki and the visuals created by BONDS.

Iwasaki: "I was a teenager when BONZ was established (laughs). I have admired BONZ's original works since that time, and I think that creating a world view is the most difficult thing in the visual field. The world view that Mr. Izubuchi and Mr. Minami created with "Metallic Rouge" is very original, and I think that is the most appealing part of it. With these words, the world premiere screening of the first episode of "Metallic Rouge" began.

Once the screening began, the audience was overwhelmed by the original and detailed science fiction worldview created by Mr. Izubuchi, the dynamic and stylish battle action by Bonds, and the fascinating characters beautifully visualized in the film, and the story of the main characters, Rouge and Naomi, as their buddy unfolded took their breath away. The audience was breathtakingly fascinated by the story of the main characters, Ruju and Naomi, as they watched the film with their eyes glued to the screen.

After the screening, the audience cheered and applauded, and the talk panel resumed with the excitement still unabated.
The panel began with a question from Mr. Minami: "This time, there were a lot of proper nouns that are original to this film, but wasn't it difficult for you to understand? (Laughs) This film is about humans and artificial humans called "Nairn," and the relationship between the two is the key word of the film. The key point of this work is the relationship between the two.

Mr. Izubuchi said, "This work, 'Metallic Rouge,' is actually a story that cuts out a part of a very large world. The main character, Luju, is an artificial Nairn, a girl who is given the mission to kill nine Nairns who are hostile to the government. The worldview is one in which there are barriers between the human side and the artificial Naeans, who are used by the human side as labor. In such a world, Luge, a Nairn, confronts herself and her relationship with humanity in the mission she bears. He added, "It's a story about transformation.

Furthermore, when asked if there was any influence from tokusatsu works in this work, which is also a "transformation story", Mr. Izubuchi replied, "Yes, there was. Mr. Izubuchi replied, "I have been involved in many tokusatsu works in addition to anime works, such as creature design. In "Metallic Rouge", Rouge is on a mission to kill Nairn, the same as himself, and it is a story of "killing one's own kind". This part of the story was influenced by "Android Kikaider" and other films. He added, "At the time, I was asked to feed back my sense of anime design to the live-action genre of tokusatsu, which led me to get involved in tokusatsu productions. For this work, conversely, I wanted to import the design of tokusatsu works back into the anime genre. As a result, two great designers, Takayuki Takeya and Tamotsu Shinohara, participated in this project. That alone is enough to convince me that this production will be great." He also talked about the influence of tokusatsu on the design.

Mr. Iwasaki talked about the music that would color the work, "As I mentioned before, this is a work that has been thoroughly detailed with Mr. Izubuchi and Mr. Minami playing the central roles. In supporting such a story with music, we thought about it by unraveling the world view. We came to the conclusion that the world of "Metallic Rouge" has a long history, and that there must have already existed a variety of music unique to this world (......). From this point of view, we dared to create music with many variations by using a multi-person production system." Regarding the song "CRIMSON LIGHTNING" used in the battle scene of the first episode, which the host said was particularly impressive, he said, "When I talked with director Motonobu Hori, the keyword 'macaroni western' came up. From there, we used early music by Enrio Morricone and others as references for the song. This song expresses the main character, Luge herself, and I wrote it with the image of her mission and the fate she has taken on. said Mr. Iwasaki.

At the same time, a special music clip of the song and lyrics of "CRIMSON LIGHTNING" was shown along with scenes from the anime, and the audience was filled with excitement by the wonderful images and music, and the excitement of the panel reached its peak.

Finally, Mr. Izubuchi, Mr. Iwasaki, and Ms. Minami sent messages to the fans who had come to the event.

Iwasaki: "This "Metallic Rouge" is a story about a part of the big world, and I think it will continue to expand. I hope I can enjoy this world with you all."

Izubuchi: "As Mr. Iwasaki said, this work is part of a larger story, so if everyone enjoys and loves "Metallic Rouge", this work will expand even further. Please support us, everyone!"

Minami: "Toshihiro Kawamoto, who designed the characters for "Cowboy Bebop," has been designing the characters for this work for quite some time. I hope you will look forward to that aspect of the work as well. In Japan, the production team is working very hard to create this work. I hope you will all enjoy this new work, "Metallic Rouge," with us!

The panel talk by the creators ended with a loud cheer and a commemorative photo taken with the approximately 2,000 audience members who filled the venue.
