Pre-orders are accepted until 12/7! Let's light up your plastic models and figures with WonderWay "LED Hanger Base"! The Tool Way! The 22nd issue of "The Tool Way!
Hello, this is Karyas! I thought summer was finally over, but before I knew it, the weather seemed to have plunged into winter! Where the hell is our autumn ......? It makes me sad, but let's cheer ourselves up by relaxing in a warm room and making plastic models! But don't forget to ventilate for your health!
This time, I would like to introduce "LED Hanger Base" which will be released by WonderToys. This glowing base is perfect for displaying Gundam plastic models and character figures!
There are two variations: an unpainted molded color version (official price: 1,980 yen (including tax)) and a painted blue-black version (official price: 2,970 yen (including tax)), both of which will be released around January 2024. The pre-order period is until December 7 (Thu.), so be sure to pre-order before it's too late!
Check out what's inside!
Let's check out what's inside. This time, we will review the unpainted version.
<Set Contents
Back board: 4 LED lights (12 bulbs in total)
Bottom board: 2 LED bulbs
8 parts for assembling and connecting
Sticker for storing electric wires
Electric wires for connection (not used this time)
The bottom board measures 161 x 161 mm and is 10 mm high, with the decoration board and electric wires placed on the back.
The height of the back board is 220mm, and the longer wires should be placed on top when connecting vertically.
Note that since only one base is used in this project, the special wire for connection is not used, but it can be used to combine the power supplies of two bases into one. This is very convenient when multiple bases are connected and exhibited together!
The power supply is USB Type-C!
■Assembly & Lighting Up
Now, let's assemble and light up the base!
First, thread the wires through the holes first, and then fit the back plate into the base plate.
Use connecting parts to fix the back plates together.
Connect the wires to the board. Be careful to insert the wires carefully, taking care of the direction of the wires!
Use storage stickers to secure the wires so that they do not become entangled.
After connecting USB Type-C (sold separately), turn on the switch!
With the power off. It looks very powerful even as it is!
Lit up. Beautiful!
As a test, we placed a 1/144 Heavy Battleship GROON (height: approx. 19cm) on it. It is a slightly larger kit, but there is plenty of room. If you want to display a larger piece, measure the size in advance before connecting multiple bases!
Here are some examples of different arrangements. You can freely combine them!
If there is a back panel that you do not want to light up intentionally, just do not connect the wires; as shown here, it is possible to create the effect that some of the lights are off! By the way, vertical display is not recommended by the manufacturer, but it is actually possible.
If you want to see it in a video, click here!
Let's paint it!
Since we are here, let's paint a part of the figure! This time we will use canned surfacer, so we need to mask off the light part first.
I will use "Mr. Masking Sol" from Kreos. There are two types: "Neo" which is thick and cannot be cut out after curing, and "Kai" which is a little watery and can be cut out after curing.
It was difficult to apply with the brush that came with the product, so I applied it with a fine brush. Since the sol is water-soluble, there is no problem if you wipe it off even if it accidentally comes off. Curing time is fast, so it can be used just as easily as masking tape!
I used Kreos' "Water-based White Surfacer 1000". Unlike lacquer-based products, it has a weak odor and is not likely to damage the substrate, so it is recommended!
Shake the can well and spray a thin coat over the entire surface. White is hard to color, so it is recommended to paint in multiple coats.
After painting is finished, peel off the cured sol.
It worked well! If you want to make it more powerful, you can do more smudging or weathering. Also, it is possible to insert weapons and parts with the same diameter into the 3mm diameter holes that are left in places. ......
I tried to display Giant Buzz and Kempfer (height: approx. 14cm) from the G Frame series side by side! Thanks to the white painted back panel, the weapon parts stand out.

■Light up in the dark!
Finally, we set up a black sheet around the LED hanger base and lit it up with the room darkened!
Here's a quick shot from below, with the image of it undergoing maintenance in preparation for a sortie. Hmmm, it looks cool!
Overhead view. The color and intensity of the light is just right!
The reflection of the light on the body gives it a mechanical look. As I thought, the light-up effect is great!
So, what do you think? It's not easy to decorate a car by yourself, but it's easy if you just connect the lights. You can display it in a variety of ways, so you can enjoy decorating it more!
See you again soon!
