Writer Aritsune Toyoda passed away due to esophageal cancer. He laid the foundation for "Astro Boy," "Jungle Emperor," "Eight Man," "Space Battleship Yamato," and other works in the early days of animation.

Aritsune Toyoda, a science fiction writer and scriptwriter for various works in the early days of anime, passed away on November 28, 2023 due to esophageal cancer, according to his official X website.

According to a post signed by Mrs. Hisako Toyoda, the mourner, "Mr. Toyoda passed away on November 28, 2023 from esophageal cancer at the age of 85 while under medical treatment.
According to Mrs. Toyoda's wishes, the funeral was held only with her close relatives.



Aritsune Toyoda was born on May 25, 1938 in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, and made his debut as a science fiction writer in 1963, followed by his debut as a screenwriter later that year with the anime "Eight Man. Later, Osamu Tezuka bought his skills and hired him to work at Mushi Productions. He was in charge of scripts for "Astro Boy" and "Jungle Emperor. After leaving Mushi Productions, he wrote scripts for "Super Jetter" and "Space Boy Soran".
In 1967, he wrote the screenplay for "Adventure Gaboten Island," but in the 1970s he became a key staff member of the "Space Battleship Yamato" series, working on drafts and setting production.
In the 1980s, he presided over the creative group Parallel Creation, which produced such animation industry talents as Yutaka Izubuchi and Takashi Hoshi.
