Wonder Festival 2024 [Winter]," one of the world's largest sculpture and figure festivals, will be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture on Sunday, February 11, 2024.

Wonder Festival is one of the world's largest sculpture and figure festivals. Prior to the opening of the festival, a special website was opened to the public.

Fist of the North Star 40th Anniversary Special "No Regrets in My Modeling" Exhibition!

"Wonder Festival 2024 [Winter]" will hold a special event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the popular manga "Fist of the North Star". The exhibition will feature sculptures of Kenshiro, Raoh, and other mob characters from "Fist of the North Star" created by numerous artists exhibiting at Wonder Festival. This event is a one-time-only festival commemorating the 40th anniversary of "Fist of the North Star.

Check out the "love" overflowing in the works of the sculptors at the venue. Other details will be announced later.

As an adult, I have strongly felt the need to express in sculpture the overwhelming works that most influenced and fascinated me when I was a boy. This time, I wanted to capture Kenshiro's cool costume, the moment his clothes fly off, his anger, his strength, and his body in one piece. I was greedy, wasn't I? The costume and the Niou statue on the pedestal are based on the ones from Raoh's final battle."

MA-Man, a paint artist and YouTuber, will be exhibiting examples of his "Kenshiro" and "Raoh" paintings created using his unique painting technique called "3D two-dimensional coloring".

Wonder Festival (hereinafter referred to as "WF") has been held at Makuhari Messe, one of the largest convention venues in Japan, since 2009. For a long time, Halls 1 to 3 were mainly for corporate booths, and Halls 4 to 8 were mainly for general amateur booths, but from this year, the layout has been changed, with Halls 1 to 6 as the general area and Halls 7 and 8 as the corporate area. This is a major change to a "custom" that has continued for 14 years.

Since the so-called "Corona Dawn," the vitality of the general area has been on the rise, as if to rebound from the suppression caused by the Corona Disaster. The rapid spread of digital modeling and the rise of original works that do not rely on existing characters are cited as factors behind the rapid increase in the number of amateur dealers. In addition, an increasing number of first-time general attendees, stimulated by the realistic modeling works and the overwhelming enthusiasm of the dealers, have turned into dealers at the next show, saying, "I want to make something myself.

On the other hand, for manufacturers and other companies, both large and small, the Corona disaster has reduced the production capacity of factories in China that produce figurines, making it difficult to arrange shipping services, and the weak yen has made production in China extremely difficult. This situation has led to higher overall prices and lower production volumes, making it difficult to plan and produce event-specific products. Many companies have shifted away from offline events such as WF and shifted to online sales, resulting in fewer exhibitors, and even if they do exhibit, they tend to reduce the size of their booths. In response to this situation, after much discussion and verification within the Executive Committee, we decided to reduce the size of the corporate area and expand the general area, and significantly increased the number of tables in the general area. However, we were still unable to keep up with the increase in the number of amateur dealers, and once again we had to hold a lottery, and we apologize to those who were not selected. This is an issue that we must continue to confront.

The prosperity of amateur dealers that I mentioned earlier is not limited to Japan, but also extends overseas. Japan's WF will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2025, and I, as a member of the first generation of WF members, am already 66 years old. The number of people in their 50s and 60s has been increasing among the staff members, related parties, and participants. I believe this is proof of our long history and the basis of "trust in the WF brand from around the world" and "the ability to communicate our modeling to the world. The WF's original concept of "garage kit spirit," which is to find excellent works by oneself, has been transmitted overseas, and the high level of ambition and energy of the participants, including young modeling artists who are now working on the WF overseas, is a testament to this. I have a feeling that this is exactly what I saw 40 years ago when the WF was born in Japan, and I have a feeling that it will be fed back to the WF in an evolved form in the future.

Wonder Festival is one of the world's largest figure and modeling festivals, celebrating its 39th anniversary next year. It has become a major event that attracts great interest not only from domestic but also from overseas fans. The "Wonder Festival" is an event where professionals and amateurs alike bring their garage kits that they have put their skills to the test, and display and sell them. The main attraction of the event is the cosplay by cosplayers, in addition to the one-off models and new products and limited editions from professional dealers.

Wonder Festival 2023 [Summer], held in July 2023, attracted a total of 34,000 visitors from Japan and abroad. In October this year, "Wonder Festival 2022-2023 Shanghai" was held in Shanghai, China, for the first time in two years, and "Wonder Festival Bangkok" was held for the first time in Southeast Asia and closed with great success.
